So Smash Bros. 4 has gambling in it?
Watch it become Voltorb Flip in the American and European release.
Also, Omega Form being the terminology for Final Destination designed stages? Awesome.

Helmetless Samus, Raccoon Mario, Mario & Yoshi, Vacuum Luigi, Kirby Hats.

Dr. Mario is just Mario in doctor clothes.

Not to mention that the main topic is Koopalings trophies not being earned. They aren't Bowser Jr. in a Koopaling costume... they're unique characters.

Sheik is just Zelda in ninja clothes? Saying they're different is like saying Superman and Clark Kent are different characters.

Sakurai, according to when he revealed Lucina, defines a unique character as one that has different attributes. An alternate costume has the same attributes as the original character. Dr. Mario may be Mario in a difference suit, but since he plays differently, he's a separate character. The Koopalings will play just like Jr, there for they are alt costumes.

As for their trophies, It makes sense that they are earned since they play the same as Jr (again, this is based on Sakurai's comments on Lucina). Think about it, if you had to earn them, thats 8 times you'd have to play Classic, Adventure, and All Star mode as the same character. That would get old really fast. Best they could do is award you with each Koopaling trophy when you beat a mode but thats 8 trophies at the same time which is a bit much.

I think you're taking "characters" a little too literal. I think he means those treated as different playable characters in the game. Because Dr. Mario's slightly different than Mario in terms of moves and abilities, he's a different character. Zelda and Sheik, while interchangeable, are considered different.
Wario however is no different in either of his major costumes. This does not mean I don't like to see a plumber Wario trophy (I'd rather have plumber Wario than biker Wario anyways). But seeing the Koopa Kid trophy, which is likely to be a costume for Bowser Jr., I think a plumber Wario trophy is not out of the question. The biker Wario trophy is pretty clear on how disgusting he is, so perhaps the plumber trophy could focus more on his adventures.

Ninji'd by Chaoxys.

I think a Koopa Kid trophy, like a classic Wario trophy, would most likely be earned randomly or via the trophy shop.
I think what the separation boils down to is gameplay differences. I mean, in Street Fighter (kind of jumping away from Nintendo I know, but bear with me) Ryu is his own character, but there is also Evil Ryu, who is the same character following a darker path. Even though they are the same person (albeit different stages of their life), they receive completely different roster slots due to there being gameplay differences.

The fact that Dr Mario has a separate slot means that SOMETHING is different. It doesn't matter what anyone does or what they say; if Dr. Mario was put in the game as a separate slot, he's got something different, and they felt the need to separate him.

In the case of the Koopaling costumes for Bowser Jr (I'm not even sure if they are 100% confirmed, but I believe there was something confirmed, I just don't know what) there are 7 alternate characters connected to the exact same moveset. This is a very unique case. I doubt there is a single character in the entire roster who would have all of their costume slots associated with other characters, let alone having 7 alternate costumes at all.

It is kind of a unique tradeoff because on one hand you have a character who allows 7 other characters who would probably not be accepted into Smash games otherwise, but at the same time all of them don't have a "traditional" Smash palette swap. At any rate, let's say that's fine for a moment and get to the trophy earning business.

From what I understand, Kriven's concern is with the fact that one of the koopalings (I think it was Larry?) was shown gained as a trophy in his Clown Car, suggesting that the Koopaling trophies aren't earned in classic mode in the same manner. Personally, I think that's fine. Going through Classic 8 separate times as what is essentially the same moveset is going to be a tedious chore for most people. We're also making a lot of presumptions here:

1. That classic even merits a character trophy as it has in the past.
2. That if the above is still true, that Bowser Jr can only get the Bowser Jr trophy through this mode
3. That it's impossible for a Koopaling being played to get their trophy instead of Bowser Jr's at the end
4. That there aren't alternate unlock conditions for playable character trophies this time

At any rate, I think it's a bit too early to make presumptions about anything until it's fully confirmed in another week or two, or at actual release day. Personally, I'd love trophies for the various alternate costumes for main characters (and likely there WILL be, even for costumes that may not even appear in battle as evident by Mario's Boomerang costume seen as a trophy), but I think it's smarter to allow alternate methods of unlocking them, even if they are alternate characters entirely.
Nintendo not phased by yesterday's leak

Yep, me and th'big N made a deal to get my name plastered someone in Smash, only as long as I endorse THE NINTENDO WII U™ WITH ASYMMETRICAL GAMEPLAY FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY™
I don't suppose anyone has commented on this:

Mario is shown at 1981, Luigi at 1983, and Peach and Bowser at 1985.

Most likely this means while All Star mode is still in chronological order, the characters are only going to be grouped by year, not franchise.
Wasn't it in Melee that All-Star just randomly threw them at you? I think I remember the only set-in-stone character was Mr. Game & Watch at the end.

I miss that... fighting random combinatinos.
No that was in order too, but Game & Watch was at the end because you unlocked him from beating All-Star mode.

I'm so glad I'm not alone in thinking that

Seriously adding Omega to the stage names is really awesome sounding.

OMEGA BATTLEFIELD.

OMEGA RAINBOW ROAD.

OMEGA FINAL DESTIN- wait...

Melee All-Star wasn't even remotely in any order. Just look at this screenshot.
What if there were more characters yet to be unlocked on that roster...

And turns out the amount of characters left could give the roster two more rows?
