To be perfectly honest Goku is looking more and MORE likely now. Guys word to the wise? ANOTHER DBZ movie is happening next year. Dragonball Super just got confirmed for Western release. It's time. The question more prevalent in my mind since at this point Goku's percentage of being included just shot up: Is which incarnation of Goku they choose. my bet it's young Goku when he beat King Piccolo his final smash is turning into a Oozaru.

Think about it. Smug
I feel dead inside. If they wanted a Square Enix character in the game they could have used Black Mage, or Slime, or Moogle. Hell look at this:

omg koopaul, just make your own smash bros alreadyyyyy
I'd love to play a Koopaul Smash Bros. I think he'd probably put as much love into it as Sakurai did.
So I keep hearing that the Smash Direct in December will be the last one and it's stressing me out a lot

" A New Challenger Approaches!: Cloud Strife – the legendary protagonist from the classic RPG game FINAL FANTASY VII – will enter the battlefield as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in the future. Additionally, a special broadcast – the last one for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS - will be released in December. More information is available at http://www.smashbros.com/en-uk/dlc "

this is what I keep seeing.
Well, Smash has to stop sometime, and I figure in December we'll finally see who the final character or characters are going to be for Smash 4.
Not bad I guess.

I never got all the hype over FF7 myself; it was so slow-paced and grindy, it took forever for anything interesting to happen. Like Ocarina of Time, it has the push of being the first 3D entry its series, so...that'd affect any game's reputation greatly.

It would've been more interesting to see a different character than can offer more from FF, like maybe Terra from Final Fantasy 6 and her Trance ability, or perhaps Rydia from FF4 with her Black Magic and Summon abilities and using a whip as a physical weapon, or any other big name character that's not Cloud, and not another swordsman.

You're not seeing this for the obvious marketing move that it is, I feel.
Oh I know it's a marketing move. Businesswise it's a sure cash grab. Gamewise, it's just yet another guy with a sword. Appealwise, the most overrated FF game's fans will flock to this game and sales will boom. Futurewise, it opens up a window for other non-Nintendo system characters to get in on this. Snake technically fits the last one, but he starred in at least two Nintendo console titles. Alllllll that could still have been done with someone who's popular and not a swordsman for some variety, I feel.
I was a huge fan of the series as a kid, but honestly it was 7 that started my decline in interest. The quicktime events and mini games were more nuisance than fun. 8 and 9 made it worse, though 8 scored brownie points for letting me break the characters like in Tactics. My irritation was finally sealed into dislike after 12 and its MMO style and autoplay characters. I can't say I'm a fan anymore.

But even though I'm a "grumpy old man" who thinks the three SNES games are the only really good ones, I still believe that a Squeenix rep was something that should have been back in Brawl alongside Capcom, and that the most blatantly obvious choice is Cloud.
To be fair on the "Cloud was never on a Nintendo console" thing: he's appeared in a couple of the handheld Kingdom Hearts games and Theathrythm Final Fantasy. He's even a playable character in Final Fantasy Explorers, which they announced about five minutes earlier during this same direct.

Definitely not on the same level of having his home game be on a Ninty console (like Mega Man and Ryu), but he's not a total stranger.
Cloud is, bar none, the most popular FF character. He's not a "Nintendo" character like Terra or Cecil, but he's got star power. Some might argue that Mog or Black Mage would be a better choice, and maybe, but Cloud is one of gaming's heavy hitters. He deserves the slot.
Well if being popular is all it takes, then...where the hell is our Simon/Richter Belmont or Alucard from Castlevania >=C!
Konami hates everyone.
Konami would probably sooner include a Castlevania Pachinko machine as a new fighter.

Popularity isn't necessarily "all it takes", it's just a major contributing factor. I bet Cloud killed it in fan requests. Also, worth nothing, games like Thearhythm Final Fantasy have also allowed several FF characters that were not on a Nintendo console to secretly pass the first Smash requirement: appear on a Nintendo console.

Cloud had that since the GBA era, though, and frankly lots of post-Cloud FF characters aren't even as highly elevated by super fans. Just food for thought for next Smash, when maybe the 3rd Party floodgates burst open. Wishful thinking.
