That is so cool actually.

Nevermind what I said a couple of pages ago, Lucina is best lord 10/10
I just found something interesting regarding the reason why Sakurai did not include Chrom as a playable character. I am surprised that he chose Robin instead of Chrom since Robin has different attributes than Chrom as a sword fighter.

As much as I try not to become too hyped about videogames these days, it's becoming increasingly hard to not feel excited about SSB4 especially with the latest reveals. On the other hand, there isn't a whole lot that would increase my internal hype meter at this point.

...A Ridley reveal certainly would. Simon Belmont too, but that's just wishful thinking.

Another one of my predictions, proven true.

Aww, too many awesome updates in a row. We've reverted back to the Living Room.

I suppose the number of dogs and cats that could appear is mildly interesting, but it doesn't hold a candle to the rest of the week. Very Sad

After all, she has a close relationship with him in FE:A. In such cases, even if two characters' names and voices differ, as long as they function the same way, I assign them as alternate costumes.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but this really sounds to me like there are going to be quite a few characters with alternate costumes and voices.

At first one may assume he's just talking about characters like the Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, or Robin. But notice that he says that "even if their NAMES differ". None of these characters have that occur when you change their appearance. And since Lucina didn't get that treatment, I have to assume that their are other characters that do.
I have a feeling we may get Ninten or Lucas as a Ness alternate then.
You know what? Lucina is really starting to grow on me, guys. Even though I still don't know anything about her and haven't played Awakening, I think she will be a really fun character to play as, even if she is a Marth clone.

This gives me hope for Samus' Super Metroid suit being included. Really, the effort involved would be fairly minimal so there is no excuse if they're giving other characters similar treatment.
I just hope any suits they may include won't end up looking cringeworthy like the Zero Suit Samus design.

There are plenty of other, smaller things they could include too, which wouldn't be difficult or time-consuming. Mirror shields for Link/Toon Link come to mind.
I have to say, that article on the origin of Lucina as a full character is very interesting and opens all manner of possibilities. It makes me wonder what kind of other alternate characters might be tied to pre-existing ones.

What is very clear is that if the character is altered in any way it makes it a separate character with their own slot on the select screen. That being said, there are characters who have the same basic builds of other characters who fans would probably appreciate having in the game at all even if they were essentially the most definitive clones of the entire cast.

Some that come to my mind are Daisy for Peach, the Black Knight for Ike, Blood Falcon for Cap'n, young link for toon link (though the hitbox may be wonky due to head differences), and the list goes on. I might list more when I get home and just see how many I get right come release time.
I don't see why Blood Falcon would be a separate character and not just a palette swap.
That slot should go to Black Shadow instead.

No no no no, that's not what I was talking about. I was talking about in reference to this quote by Sakurai in that interview about Robin, Lucina and Chrom:

"In such cases, even if two characters' names and voices differ, as long as they function the same way, I assign them as alternate costumes. The Wii Fit Trainers, Villagers, and Robin are examples of this setup."

This is a situation where I think going all the way and having a character like Blood Falcon as one Captain Falcon's alternate costumes, going so far as to even remodel his helmet to have a skull instead of a falcon as opposed to just reskinning the emblem on his back. They could even change his voiceovers slightly to reflect his more blood-thirsty personality.

It's a situation like that where I think it would be appropriate. After all, Blood Falcon is LITERALLY a clone of Captain Falcon, so his moves would be exactly the same, hence he would be a cool alternate costume swap rather than a whole character slot.

That quote in the interview made it seem like some of the alternate costumes were actually going to be renamed characters entirely. One that is a good example since it was in a past Smash game is Dr Mario, who could basically function entirely like Mario, but remodel his outfit and basic projectiles.

I feel like this system would be an effective way of getting certain B-list Nintendo characters into the game without having to actually take up an additional slot. Sure, lots of people would probably dislike that system (mainly the fans of said characters, seeing as they would appreciate a full-fledged, uncloned moveset more), but at the end of the day wouldn't it be cool to have a few extra characters represented in that way?

The basic ones I can think of are these:

Dr. Mario for Mario
Daisy for Peach
Funky Kong for DK
Pichu for Pikachu
Impa for Sheik
Young Link for Toon Link
Louie (or other Pikmin character) for Olimar
Dark Pit for Pit
James McCloud for Fox

Just off the top of my head.
I know, that's my point.
Blood Falcon is a literal clone. The only thing that's different about him are the colors of his clothes, so why not just have him as C.Falcon's red palette and then give the actual alternate slot to Black Shadow? Blood Falcon might have different lines maybe, but his voice and such is the same since he's, well, a clone. It makes more sense to me to just have him as a simple texture swap considering that the actual alt costumes are entire model swaps as well.
Ah. The only reason I didn't make the connection of Captain Falcon and Black Shadow is the fact that I always thought that Black Shadow was a lot bigger than Falcon. He was a bit taller and his body was a lot thicker, hence a lot heavier. If anything, Black Shadow is the kind of character I'd think would end up like Lucina, where they'd have enough differences to merit a whole character slot.

I wouldn't complain if he was a Cap'n alt, though.
Black Shadow could totally be what Ganondorf currently is

I would think Tetra for Toon Link. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to let her wield a pirate scimitar in place of Link's sword.

And don't forget Metal Sonic for Sonic.

And I know people really want to see Pichu for Pikachu mostly because he's already appeared in the Smash games ... buuuuuut I honestly would rather prefer Raichu myself. Raichu has always been a favorite of mine and for the most part my go-to electric pokemon throughout most of the franchise (at least until this guy came along). Plus it honestly just wouldn't feel right to play a Pichu that wasn't constantly hurting himself. "He's a danger to himself and others!"
