I can already hear the Melee fans ranting

A new smash just ain't gonna happen, not anytime soon. Sakurai would just up and die...
How about a smash 4 for NX except with melee mechanics plus the newer mechanics like rage mode, no ledge hog etc....

That would be insane.
Honestly I'd be all for a new Smash game. Hopefully they won't have to cut the ol' Ice Climbers again for another handheld port if they do, though.  Unsure
if they were to change the game mechanics at all, id at least like it to be project m's mechanics. melee is a little bit too stiff for casual play. id say project m has the perfect mix for both.
If anything i hope the new console can actually use all that high speed wifi I try to force the Wii U to use. It's not bad, but it's not good either, which is a no no. It's bad enough that I can't combo an opponent because of x frames of lag + input lag online.

Ehhhhh, rage is actually kind of a bad mechanic.

I'd rather see it removed in future instalments.
Bayonetta and Corrin drop Wednesday, thursday in Japan.

Also I'm in another Smash tournament this morning, lend me your energy.
I'd give a new Smash at least ten years. Sm4sh already has so much more to offer than any other installment - infrequent players like me still have yet to explore it.

(Quite frankly, I probably won't even have a Wii-U until I finish college and settle down with a career. Just to give you an idea of how infrequently I actually play new video games.)
Ehh, dunno. All seems fishy right now - Tittynetta and borrin are being just released, Sakurai should know that making another iteration right now isnt a good idea. Hell, this is all speculation, right?

I'd wait Ten years for the next release like jazzgw said.
Hold the phone there guys, ten years is a long time. I don't think there's ever been ten years between a Smash installment.

I figure 6-8 years would be a reasonable wait though for a true sequel, but I wouldn't be surprised if NX featured an enhanced version of what we currently have.
By ten I didn't mean literal ten as in 10

I meant "a considerable time" because I didn't remember the usual interval for a new smash game (however, my bad)
Isn't it a little quick to say change the title? You guys got me really excited for a minute there.
You and me both bud. You and me both...

Am I the only one who wants some characters cut should there be an NX release? I think there are too many similar characters/too many from a single series.
I don't think there's a logical reason to cut characters in a straight port which is likely going to borrow most of the existing programming and assets... that's just going to burn fans and offer literally no monetary saving.

I wouldn't mind if some of the clones got revisited and touched up a bit, I guess... I think I've said before that Light Pit should probably go back to a rebalanced version of his Brawl moveset while Dark Pit inherits some of the existing Light Pit specials as Custom Moves.
So I got Corrin and Bayonetta and um. wow

I feel like each DLC character becomes steadily more OP than the last, and they're released just to counter each other. I actually like Corrin, as they're now my favorite Fire Emblem in Smash of all time (seriously, take out Lucina and just keep Corrin) but Bayonetta just feels like waaaaaay overpowered because she's got too much in her kit but that's just me.

Like, playing a match with my friend last night, I got COMPLETELY shut down as Fox against his Bayonetta. oh, it was embarassing. Fighting against his Bayonetta also as Bayonetta or Corrin or even Mario? I had no problem, but Fox was just
doomed. Like, getting Witch Time'd when you're doing your side B is just completely disheartening. ):
