SAY THAT AGAIN YOU LITTLE PIECE OF
There is no Smash 4. Neither is there a Brawl, a Project M, or a Melee.

Smash 64 is the only one worth talking about, and as far as I'm concerned, that's the only game in the series.
PFFF, THE ONLY REASON YOU LIKE 64 IS SO YOU CAN SHOCK SAMUS AND SEE DEM PYRAMID BOOBIES.
Smash Bros fan games 4 lyfe.
Be Kart Fighter or be dead.
I don't like Melee, this is a personal opinion

I prefer Brawl over it but Smash 4 is better than both

Smash 64 is actually good in terms of gameplay, but it lacks all the additions such as stationary/air dodges, side B and smash charge so it's weird playing it now

I didn't play Melee as much as I did 64/Brawl/4, but it really feels odd when playing. It plays fast, but the fact that so many things cancel/negate momentum is weird. The models are ugly, and poorly animated in some parts. I also felt no visual feedback, as in when you landed a strong hit, sound would play and damage would rack up, but the opponent would just fly 45ยบ upwards without any visible effort (also a part of my lack of momentum complaint)

I also believe that all those meta-game stuff aren't coded on purpose and while they do make the fights more interesting, they are still broken as fuck and it's as if I was seeing a TAS instead of normal people playing
I pretty much agree with Gors except I still like Melee. I also harbor a lot of ill feelings towards people who won't play with anything but the gamecube controller. I know that people have preferences, and y'all aren't like the people I'm talking about, but I've seen so many people refuse to buy the Wii U until they came out with that gamecube controller attachment, and I've had friends who refuse to play Smash Bros without one so we have to play something else because they have to be petty dicks about it when Nintendo has plenty of other controllers that rock.(I am going to be getting one of them peach gamecube attachments for wiimotes though, that thing is cute as heck and looks smoov)

EDIT: My favorite thing is when my roommates constantly bitch about having to play with a Wiimote and Nunchuck and they'll be winning all while complaining about how I have some unfair advantage using a gamepad or my 3ds.
As for me, I'm pretty much happy playing any Smash Bros. game (even though I'm a bit edgy about playing Smash 64 due to its lack of polish). All the Smash Bros. games have their merits, so it's horrendously stupid to form some "master race" of Melee players due to all this bias that it's the best Smash Bros. game. With that said, it's one of the reasons why Brawl hacking goes against my grain a bit. Everyone is expecting another Melee clone, so they had to go as far as dramatically changing a game just to get something they don't have instead of appreciating the games they do have. Sure, while some hacks to Smash Bros. games are interesting (there's a Baby Bowser Yoshi's Island stage that has a decent amount of polish), a fair bulk of them are fairly ugly and/or don't look right. Most of the hacks I've seen range from lazy retextures to simple model replacements and nothing more (replacing the character sounds would help a bit for those kinds of hacks, but still).
I can see where gors is going with melee, I neither agree or disagree in that regard to the gameplay itself.

Fast paced gaming isn't for everyone, but I still enjoy melee given that I've grown up with it since I was 6 or 7. But honestly I feel like that this is one of the only game that actually works with a gamecube controller otherwise it just feels weird using it in other games. Maybe I'm more used to adapting to other controllers.

(Far as melee's graphics go, they've definitely aged but we're talking about a game that came out around the same year the gamecube was launched. I think they were good for their time but they don't really compare to smash 4's graphics)

EDIT: to be fair I never liked brawl as a whole more so because of SSE and tripping. I have ill feelings towards the game because it could have focused so much more on other things that could have been included. Otherwise the gameplay was fine. With that being said the only mod that I can enjoy from brawl is project M only because it has Mewtwo, who should have been included from the beginning but everyone was impatient and yelled at Sakurai for delaying the game. And to tell you the truth Smash 4 should have been delayed too, both of them.
Gors' statement about Melee having too many things that cancel momentum is ironically very wrong, considering the biggest reason its being played competitively is due to the engine retaining momentum in almost everything and translating your movements to all new actions seamlessly. If Smash 4 had any bad game design, it'd be that I can't even run and jump without slowing down unlike every single platformer ever.

Also god damn am I tired of this, can't bring up Melee without Melee hate these days from fans of the other games.
No one's hating on Melee though mang, liking the other games more doesn't equate to hating.
I find it funny how out of the few competitive Smash players here, no one's main game is Melee.
I still feel like because I play all four games so deeply and love every single iteration (evennnn Brawwwlllll) my notes about the flaws of every game, including Melee, should have more credibility though.

I still think the perfect Smash game would be Smash 4, with Melee speed and gravity, high hitstun, Melee radial DI, a higher L canceling frame window for beginners, crouch cancelling, less sliding when turning around from a dash (its more comfortable when its snappy), momentum based physics again, single airdodge (but no wavedashing), smaller spot and roll dodge invincibility window (shit is abusable), and higher knockback on nearly everything to make stocks go quicker and combos take more effort to perform. Extra stuff like 64 and 4's immense screenstun and damage feedback would also be nice.

It'd make it the perfect blend of 64, Melee, and Smash 4, with a normal skill floor and high skill ceiling. Not as high, but still satisfying.

Also typing on the phone sucks.

I played Melee for years, my grandma got my family a gamecube and Melee was one of the games that came with it. For a long time that was one of my main games. I used to play it with my babysitter for hours, and my friends and I would play it all night. I just simply liked the future titles more, I liked Brawl so much and Smash 4 is just even better. It doesn't feel so slippery which is something that always annoyed me personally.
About your comment earlier, using Wiimote and Nunchuck is a legitimate disadvantage since they lack a C-Stick BTW.

:V

(Wii remote for smashing is also seriously unconformable like holy hell)
