I don't think it's coincidential. I just posted Palutena. Palutena is even worse, it's almost 1:1, while these others are pretty different. Duck Hunt Dog just jumps around and laughs at you, its entire moveset would have to rely on creative liberties.

Every one of those characters has something to work with. Duck Hunt Dog points and laughs at you when you miss a duck, or picks a duck up for you. Captain Falcon is also a legendary bounty hunter in F-Zero games, even if it's not what the game's about, The Ice Climbers have their hammers, Mr Game and Watch pulls from all the mini games. ROB I got nothing for, but he's a robot, so it's pretty easy to work in some ideas for him. Duck Hunt Dog is just a snarky dog, and nothing more.

I'll agree with you that this is very in-style, but that's no 3D render. I also think this probably way too much work to be put in a silly leak and not used as a lever to rise one's own art skills.
But ok, let's say this disproves all those similar characters. I'm still waiting on Ness and Duck Hunt Dog.

...What exactly did Captain Falco have before Smash? Not even Fox had anything going, they're both inside vehicles all the time. It's not that hard to imagine Duck Hunt Dog

Also Captain Falcon and Fox still have plenty to work with. Fox may be inside his ship the entire time, but he's a well known fighter pilot, and fighter pilots still receive military training doi. Also like I said Captain Falcon is regarded as a legendary bounty hunter in later games, and even then, racers are usually quick to fight, watch any racing, them boys get pissed quick.

Also I honestly can't see them doing anything with Duck Hunt Dog other than adding a ton of new things to him. The ducks would be a final smash if anything, probably harassing other players similar to Pit's final smash from brawl. Oh cool and he's a dog so he can bite and maybe claw at people, that's fucking insanely cool, he totally looks like a character that would do that sort of stuff too(not). That "leak" of him makes him look like my dog that just naps in the sun all day and does jack shit.
