Let's cut Falco, Ganondorf, Toon Link and Roy while we're at it.

Even if just a few people like the clones (which I believe is more likely a less vocal majority), those who don't like them have the option not to choose them. If they're cut, those who like them are simply screwed. It's like stealing candy from a baby and throwing it in the trash, just because you don't like raspberry flavor.

Well maybe not Lucina. She's a beloved character in the Fire Emblem series.

It's funny how we're totally fine with the Koopalings turning into Shadow Mario, but Dark Pit can't use the Three Sacred Treasures... Character accuracy my ass.

Source on that? (Don't bother looking. Even though people are inevitably pissed off, there's tons of people who requested Lucina, who requested the return of Dr Mario, and there's even fans of Kid Icarus who are really into its lore who wanted Dark Pit.)

Also, if anyone, I'd say the Koopalings have been shown more than anyone else to have similar abilities and pools of armaments and magic. I figure if Jr could turn into Shadow Mario, there's no reason the rest of them can't.
The only thing wrong with the clones is their placement on the select screen...
I absolutely hate how they're handling the CSS. DLC characters go in their own area. Clones go in their own area. Can't we have an option to organize it the way we want? I wanted everything organized by franchise just like it always has been.

The menus in Sm4sh, in general, have been total ass IMO. The CSS's crap organization is just one indicator of this.
The most annoying thing about the Smash 4 menus is the fact that they were clearly designed with touch-screen navigation in mind, but for some reason they chose not to include that functionality. Is that really such a difficult thing to implement?

On a different note, anyone want to take a guess on when the next character announcements will be? Is there any upcoming Nintendo events that would make a good venue for this?
with the launch of Tournament Mode and a huge Splatoon update scheduled for August, I feel like a Nintendo Direct is right around the corner. We could definitely see a new character trailer. It all depends if they're still going to do the Nintendo Directs, especially with Iwata's late passing. =(
I hope they keep doing them. It's what Iwata would want.

What's the difference between Dr. Mario and Ganondorf? Not as fighters in Smash but as actual characters in the Nintendo universe. It's like you don't get what I'm saying here.

I wasn't mad they made clones, I was mad they made the wrong clones. Alph being his own character makes more sense than Dr. Mario. Again it's not about fighters, its about the actual character.

Also, cuts are inevitable. They cut Squirtle, Ivysuar, Ice Climbers, Snake, and more. If they're going to cut anyone, it might as well be the fighter who literally is just a costume swap.

dr. mario has had his own series of games, which are still relevant today. sure, they arent as popular, but they are still being made.

why should a character be cut just because theyre literally just a costume swap? it does not take that long to make a clone character. most animations are already made, an edited model with new textures were made, and attack attributes had to be change to make a difference.
I can't speak for the rest of his points but for the latter part, he's saying that if any cuts are to be made, it should be on the palette swap characters, because the least work was put into them and that's an objective fact. Putting all subjective opinions to the side, if any characters got cut in Smash 4 for Smash 5, you would want the blatant clones to be cut.
Top Five most likely cuts not including DLC characters and Clones: GO!

1: Pac-Man
Simply put, if Namco-Bandai isn't working on Smash 5, it's easy to see this guy getting let go. Though he is a gaming icon, I feel like his inclusion was more or less a result of Namco-Bandai working on Smash.

2: Mega Man
If Capcom continues to be a bumbling sack of buffoons, Mega Man would easily be the next to go. While literally EVERYONE loves Mega Man, and fans will be disappointed if he's removed, it's always Capcom's call. And like Snake, if the developers get distant, it's not 100% likely that he'll return.

3: Shulk
I think Shulk has a bit of Ness syndrome going for him, so I think he might stay simply for being the first protagonist in the Xenoblade franchise- but he could easily be cut and replaced with a newer Xenoblade protagonist if the series continues being made. I want him to stay as much as anyone, but I have a FEELING that Sakurai could replace him if need be.

4: Greninja
Unlike Lucario, who's popularity pre-Diamond and Pearl led to him getting into Smash Bros, Greninja really doesn't have that same popularity. As the newest starter from the newest set of games, its easy for him to be forgotten in the tests of time and replaced with a Gen 7, 8, or 9 mon.

5: Robin
I was going to put Duck Hunt here, but after giving it some thought, i feel like Robin may get cut over our favourite Dog and Duck duo. Robin's an avatar character, and a trend that future Fire Emblems have decided to take, having a customizable protagonist. If a newer Tactician classed character appears, it could be easy to transfer Robin's old moveset to that character. Plus, as an Avatar character, Robin doesn't really have the ICON power that Marth, Ike, and Lucina have.

I'm sure Sakurai will work his hardest to get every Smash Bro to return in future installments (if he's even still the director of Sma5h), but I feel like these five are the easiest cuts. What do you guys think?
I think Megaman and Pac-Man are future staples alongside Sonic. Unlike Konami, Nintendo seems to have close ties with Capcom and Namco.

Something I wonder though. Will Smash 4 DLC characters be DLC characters for the next game, or can we expect DLC characters to be in the roster by default? Will be interesting to see.
Tbh I wouldn't mind it if Lucina and Dark Pit were cut. The C tier waifu is kind of just a worse Marth and I'm pretty indifferent to Dank Pit because he's so similar to Pit
Pac-Man and Mega Man are gaming legends and icons. The idea of them getting cut would piss off a ton of people.

Anyway my point with Dr. Marío is that he's literally just Mario. It'd be like having Biker Wario and Overalls Wario be two separate characters... And I know some of you are going to say "I'd like the idea of there being a Wario Land inspired Wario" Me too! But instead of there being two Warios we should just have one that manages to capture Wario from both series.

And that's my point with Dr. Mario. An alt costume is good enough to represent the Dr. Mario series. He doesn't need his own spot on the CSS. Alph could certainly use his own spot on the CSS.

As for Dark Pit, I think it pissed me off more that Sakurai put so much stuff from Uprising.

If you're gonna make last minute clones, why do it for series that already got newcomers? Why not make a clone of Diddy for Dixie? Could have been the exact same moveset and I would have been happy... Sort of.
