I think it might be based on Meta Knight from Kirby's Adventure specifically, in which he had a black body.

These updates somehow led me to look up information about some pallet swaps, eventually leading me to this wiki page, and I gotta say, I had no idea that so many of the pallet swaps from previous games were actually direct references to things. I mean I was aware of a few of them, but by looking at this it looks like about 80% of all pallet swaps were direct references to Nintendo history. I guess that's not news to anybody else but it kind of blew my mind.

ANYWAYS on a side note, do you think Luigi will get an NES Open Golf alternate uniform too? He might not be on the cover, but official artwork of him does exist:

Also I didn't realize he and Daisy were already a thing that long ago.

He appears in the title screen though, which is similar to this art.
If Peach doesn't get a true Daisy costume including voice, I hope it'll at least be true to the classic Daisy, like in Melee.
Hey im way tardy to the party it seems

I'd be fine with DuckHuntDog getting a spot in smash

A duck hunt stage would be cool too

He's a pretty solid memory of my childhood and I'd be pleased to see him in, regardless of how strange his moveset may end up being

Are there more deserving characters for a roster spot? Maybe, but come on who actually hates the idea of him being in smash
*raises hand*

He's a part of my childhood as well, but I just don't think he belongs in smash as a playable character.

An assist trophy for sure, and a stage would be cool.

Or maybe we are getting alt colors based on other series?

Shadow Kirby from Amazing Mirror perhaps?
It does look a lot like the Bomb Boos, but I'm pretty sure it is a throwback to Meta Knight's classic design. In Kirby's Adventure he wasn't really blue, he was black in the in game sprites. I feel like the fact they showcase Kirby's Meta Knight hat with this new palette is evidence of that, but really it can be taken either way, I'd imagine.

He clearly has purple feet in those magazine snapshots. But I wouldn't be surprised if Mirror Kirby showed up as an additional pallet swap.

Another referential color swap I wouldn't mind seeing for Kirby would either be Prince Fluff (blue body, orange feet) or Lolo (blue body, white feet). In fact, the fact that they haven't already done a Lolo reference before now kind of mystifies me.

To be fair, he does look purple in triple deluxe.

I am pretty sure that the Shadow Kirby you fight at the end of Kirby Fighters is NOT the same shadowy Kirby from the Mirror World and that wiki page is just straight up wrong.

The Kirby from the Mirror world is called Shadow Kirby when you attack him throughout the game largely because he is literally a shadowy figure whose identity you don't really know or understand. Once you beat the game however the ending story correctly refers to him as Mirror-World Kirby or Mirror Kirby, depending on your translation. If they were to use that same character again, I think they would refer to him as Mirror Kirby since he was revealed to not actually be a sinister version of Kirby.

Then of course there's the obvious visual differences. The Shadow Kirby you fight in Kirby Fighters has an astral look to his body, which is completely covered with the same color skin, he has glowing white eyes, white cheeks, and if you look in his mouth you can actually see that his insides glow to as well. Mirror Kirby on the other hand has a dark grey body with darker grey feet, dark grey cheeks and black eyes.

I could also make the argument that Mirror-World Kirby is a good guy with no reason to fight Kirby, but one could always make the counterargument that the fight at the end of Kirby Fighters could in fact be a friendly rivalry battle. But even if you don't think Shadow Kirby is evil, there's still the fact that he STRAIGHT UP EXPLODES when you finish him. There is a very distinct exploding animation followed by him bursting into shadowy smoke. If Kirby were fighting his pal Mirror Kirby, I don't think he would resort to straight up destroying the shit out of him.

So yeah, I definitely do not believe they are the same being. Mirror-World Kirby is an actual living alternate-universe version of Kirby, while Shadow Kirby is some sort of shadowy ethereal construct of Kirby, like most versions of Shadow Link.

Ummm ... I'm not really sure why I'm debating this though ... it doesn't really have anything to with the topic at hand ...
I never played Fighters so I just assumed it was an updated look. Thanks for pointing that out.
Friendly reminder of why TeamFake is best team.

I think the reason that looks off to me is the fact that it was from a digital painting rather than a 3D render. Parts of it look really off to me compared to what the other Smash renders look like.

Of course, I'm sure that it looks more legitimate once you take a picture of it with a potato.
The one part that doesn't match up with the rest of it is the ring and emerald, otherwise it's pretty well done.

It kinda does, actually.
Ah just like Bigfoot, blurry camera shots make everyone speculate.
