The 3DS version should have never existed.

I'm thrilled the 3DS version exists. It finally tapped the potential of portable smash, and that got me through the stress of flying last weekend and provided a wonderful filler for downtime I had at the hotel as well.

As for Ridley, I don't think he was ever meant to be a fighter, as sad as that is, at least not in the state we are seeing him. The writing was always on the wall, we Ridley fans just chose to interpret it differently even though there was always the possibility he wasn't going to be playable. The way he fights translates more as a boss than a standard fighter... I mean, he has an attack that skewers his tail through the stage.

This direct has been the biggest increase in hype I've ever had with these two games, and I've been pretty high with hype from the get-go. I cannot freaking wait for mid November.
Portable Smash isn't the problem... tying it so tightly into the Wii U version is.
By the way has it occurred to anyone else that if they wanted they could easily bring in Robotnik as a heavier Bowser Jr. clone?
And Dr Wily as an alternate costume set.

But that would be a clone people would actually want
It's kind of funny. There were a lot of potential clones they could have made using the time they did to make Dr. Mario and Dark Pit.

Dixie (clone of Diddy)
Impa (clone of Sheik)
Dark Samus (clone of Samus)
Alph (clone of Olimar that ended up being an alt)
Blood Falcon (clone of Captain Falcon)
And more...

All of those would have been better choices than Dr. Mario and Dark Pit because Mario and Kid Icarus already got newcomers, while Donkey Kong, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, and F-Zero did not. People might have been more welcoming to those guys. Maybe.
For real though, I kind of wish they set up Lucina and Dark Pit in the same way that they set up Dr. Mario.

See, Doc brings back Mario's original down smash, which I liked so much more than I liked the FLUDD. Doc kind of feels like the Melee Mario than anything else.

What I'm getting at is Smash could've done the same exact thing with Lucina and Dark Pit. Marth's been changed around a bit since his Melee iteration; she could have easily been designed more like the Melee Marth (or, hell, even like Roy if he's not gonna be our boy anymore) and feel more like the original iteration than current Marth does. Dark Pit could've also used Pit's original moveset from Brawl instead of using the Sm4sh rework; that would've been so much cooler.

I just feel like there was some wasted potential with those two, when Doc showed what they could've potentially become Sad
We're getting Mewtwo and we're still complaining about the roster.

C'mon TSR. C'mon.

Is anyone else annoyed that they included another clone?

Mewtwo's a clone? Of who? Lucario?
Why do I get the feeling that Mewtwo is going to end up with the female voice it had in that one Pokémon movie?

well, if he was a clone of Lucario we'd be calling him Lucariotwo.
Just remembered, they still haven't explained how Assist Trophies "figure into" All Star mode, but I guess we have only a month before we see for ourselves. That is unless Sakurai beats us to the punch with a Pic of the Day.

I also keep forgetting to post my Mii Fighters. I have one or two I'm actually proud of, and others I just feel like sharing.

Oh for fucks sake are we still going on about this?

Honestly, this is just stupid. It's like everyone has to bash the 3DS version just because we didn't get a few characters that could have been playable. Just because technical limitations of the 3DS meant that we couldn't have Ice Climbers, Ridley, or whomever else because of it is just dumb.

I get that Ridley was a huge request to be a playable character but at the same time, the quality of the game is what matters in the long run. In this case it's two full games that create an expanded game over all. It's basically a metagame between two versions. So why complain? We're getting the quality of smash bros we've come to know and love and sure there were some sacrifices that had to be made, but tell me this: Would you want to have a completely laggy game with a shit ton of features in comparison to a game that plays smoothly and is able to deliver the same enjoyment at the sake of some small things that are cut out from both versions?

I'd rather see some content cut out of the game than have to play a game that constantly slows down all the time. And if we're not satisfied with it chances are it could make DLC if it was modified enough. I mean shit even the Ice Climbers could be modified into just one character instead of a one slot duo like Melee and Brawl did with them and still have extremely good gameplay that can come out of it as DLC if Nintendo and Sora LTD really wanted to do that. Hell, they could even add your precious Dixie Kong, K. Rool, Impa, Issac, Wolf, Lucas, Snake, and Pichu if they really wanted.

But in general we should be satisfied with what we are getting instead of bitching about it. So shut up and enjoy your game.
The 3DS version doesn't need to exist because it's vastly inferior to the console game in every possible way. Smash wasn't made to be portable, and it really shows.

They should just have put the time and resources into the Wii U game.
