Simon Belmont doesn't have a chance compared to Banjo and Rayman though.
While anybody COULD get in, you also have to remember that if somebody outside of Nintendo's collection of characters is chosen, they'd still have to reach a deal with whatever company owns the voted for character, which could then end up not happening because a deal couldn't be reached. I'd stick within Nintendo's boundaries *COUGH Splatoon COUGH*(whew nasty cough), but that's just my two cents.
I REALLY want the Chorus Kids, I can already imagine them using that up clap as their attack.

I want Simon Belmont more too, but I want Mike Jones from Startropics even more than Simon Belmont =C. They could also go with Richter Belmont, since Rondo of Blood (PC Engine) was very popular.

Way Forward is also promoting to vote for Shantae. I would rather have Shantae over Shovel Knight due to her being solo Nintendo, out longer, and also Indie developed. [Image: 41419268f4a6425707c78cf6c74200e0_origina...2d00c83d80]
I've been seeing Shantae around the internet more often these days, but I've never played any of her games, not even the GBC one which is easily emulated. I've been wanting too, but I have a laundry list of stuff to get through xD.
She may not have the star power of some of the others, but she has an extremely unique style and array of attacks. Plus getting more females in there does seem ideal to me. So I did put a vote in for her. Might even start doing some fan concepts for it.

Nintendo went out of their way to put extra female characters in the game, so it's really not necessary.

More is good.
I don't know if including female clones/alt costumes of existing male characters really counts as "going out of their way" ...

I'm sure everyone had Rosalina and Palutena at the top of their lists right? Lucina is the only female clone and the slot could have easily gone to some other FE character.

Who says they're alts of male  characters? Robin and Villager have always had the option of male or female, Wii Fit Trainer too (I think)... They didn't have to give you the option to be M/F either which is nice.

None of the "existing male characters" were male and then got a female alt just for smash. >: (

As for "more is good" I don't mind more female characters, unless they're there solely for that purpose. If they're gonna add a female character I'd rather she be worthy of the slot instead of taking some cooler male character's place just to balance it out.

I was going to say Mike Jones too but Castlevania is popular in both Japan and USA - and it's an undeniable NES classic.

Banjo & Kazooie does have more chance but I dislike the characters (oops, personal preference)

As for Richter, he does have more moves up his sleeve, but I picked Simon because he is from the first game. However, he could have some of Richter's moves and make him an amalgam of other Belmont characters. Hydro Storm for Final Smash
Here's an unoffical list of possible DLC contenders that i saw floating around the interwebs on alot of websites

DIXIEDIXIEDIXIEDIXIEDIXIE!

Ahem sorry... But yeah, who's more worthy than Dixie Kong? ...Maybe K. Rool.

I'm going from the perspective that I'm probably going to be happy with the results unless its the reckless controller guy, chorus boys, or the selector hands.
