Great. This probably means 5 Pokemon characters. I was worried about that, now it's probably true. Will there be any room left for new franchise newcomers?

DeDeDe: "How dare you show up in this new Smash Bros. game! That means I won't get to play as Mewtwo!"
Aw crud. Out of all the Pokemon veterans, Lucario was the one I wanted to see the least. If Mewtwo doesn't make it in because of this punk, I am going to be super pissed.
I don't mind this reveal too much, he looks pretty cool in this game. Very serious and such. I also like the reveal because it completely debunks the latest "leaker" idiot, seeing as there was no reveal yesterday and today's reveal contradicts his comment that Lucario was no longer playable.

However, it's worth noting that even though a lot of people like that make really idiotic lists, you may have to be prepared for getting FEWER characters than what those lists might have. That's something that happened with Brawl, people didn't actually believe that the full roster size was the full roster at first.

As for Mewtwo, what I'm hoping is that he's in the game, but that we don't see him before launch. I'm hoping he's one of the harder secret characters, like he was in Melee. We'll see as time goes on.

As long as Mewtwo and Pokemon Trainer come back I don't mind...

Alternatively we can have six pokemon characters and have pichu back just so sakurai can troll everyone.
I imagine his FS will be the same as in Brawl, but he'll be in his Mega form temporarily while doing so.

I haven't lost faith in Mewtwo's return because of this. Lucario in doesn't mean Mewtwo out. I bet Sakurai either facepalms or laughs everytime he sees someone claim Mewtwo's deconfirmed because of Lucario.
I actually wouldn't mind Pichu if he wasn't... like... a sucky Pikachu.

Not in the sense of his design, I think he's cute, and he'd be a cool super-small character, but in the sense that he just sucks in terms of playability. His attacks all hurt him, he's weaker than Pikachu, and his moves essentially were all the same as Pikachu's in Melee.
I still think Mewtwo will be in. And I think we'll get an event with Mewtwo vs Lucario poking fun at it.
In the mean time, this is the first veteran that I'm actually surprised to see.

Also, Dedede has beads of sweat when he powers up that hammer. Neat.

And if we're lucky enough, the co-op version will have you fight Ike as well and have Roy as an ally.

lol/jk
I hope that Mewtwo is unlocked through some secret means involving Lucario. Mewtwo could be kind of like Lucario's Ganondorf, all evil and secret. Plus there's parallels like Lucario evolving from a lower form using friendship, Mewtwo being a solitary asshole, etc.

Part of the problem with Pichu at the time was because Sakurai followed closely to the anime rather than keeping following the games instead.

Personally, I don't mind that if they buffed Pichu to the point where if he uses the same attack over and over again, rather than weakening the attack from being used repetitively it will end up damaging him instead. Like say that if you had some dick wad try to spam thunder a thousand times and by the time he uses thunder a fifth or tenth time that's when pichu will start taking damage.

I mean they added that concept "Tiring moves" in Brawl to discourage spamming (Like someone using fox's blaster for a thousand times to build up damage), I would love to see that idea played around a bit with Pichu. Ether that or make it so that only Pichu can take damage from Volt Tackle.
Pichu's fine with me, but he's just a weaker Pikachu, so bringing him back would kinda be a waste of roster space better given to a character more qualified.
Not to deviate too much but am i the only one who would love to see Sakurai pull a Capcom on Super Smash Bros 4 and have a Turbo Championship edition?
Oh yeah, have a slower, more accessible version and then one faster, more competitive version. Maybe even take off items or redo them on the latter. Casual players are happy, competetive players are happy
