Not too surprised that Ike returned. More surprised at how long it's taking for Wario to show up.

Oh man, I actually had a strong feeling there would be a character reveal this Friday and failed to say anything about it. Now I feel foolish.

(Of course I thought it was most likely going to be the Ice Climbers so I guess I was only half right).
Huh. I had the biggest hunch they would just toss Ike out for Chrom, making every game have a pattern of keeping Marth there but adding a second FE character of current relevance. Not that I don't love ike of course.

Nintendo Fried Chicken
Aww man, I'm so happy now. Ike got a lot of flack in other places for being "too similar to Marth and Roy", which is completely idiotic in itself.

Hater:"Durrr, how can Ike not be cut because he is just like merth?"

Sakurai: "Uhhh, by making him look like a fuckin baller?"

I love this design so much. I loved his heavy sword style.
i'm not surprised, but not necessarily happy either

probably only me, but i dislike pretty much every sword-haver character in smash bros ever
not because i hate the characters or their move sets, but because i hate playing against them

like all the time

pretty much everyone ive ever played any version of smash with always picks a sword guy
it gets frustrating playing against the same characters all of the time

i mean, sure, you're good with link, i get it, just use someone else already

Although i suppose my real gripe with sword guys is that their reach is artificially doubled from that of everyone else
how many times have you fallen into a endless loop of dodging B spam and nonsense counters simply because the
character's reach you picked is limited to their stubby little arms or other appendages

I know there are methods and play styles to rival swords in smash; i have to use them all the time, but that's my point
Having to use the same few characters just to beat the same other characters gets real old

I'm just not a "main" type of guy; i like using all of the characters, and not sucking with any of them

i guess i just need better friends that aren't dicks and actually pick other characters every once in a while
I love the challenge of fighting sword characters with shorter ones and winning, since I main Mario in every smash game. Usually the sword characters have less KO potential than fist-fist fighters, but I think Ike is hated because he ignores this rule while having a VERY large reaching sword. Not to mention his forward air is quite jarringly fast, and most of his moves shroud his entire hit-box in a death-circle. Sad

I hope they fix this.
Well there are characters with projectiles and speed to counter the range. Star Fox characters have a good advantage over swordsmen. As a Donkey Kong user My long arms have the same range as a sword fighter. I can trip up Link by pounding the ground, my immense build keeps me strong even after I've taken many hits from the blade! Yes DK is the mighty ape who needs no weapon!

The only exception is Ike. That guy was a little overpowered in Brawl.
Koopaul, I hope you realize our mains mean we were destined to kill each other~
I hope that Ike has a black armor costume. Then I can almost fantasize he's Guts from the Golden Age arc in Berserk.

I actually wish they employ custom player colors. Would work due to the new team color mechanics.

Not really, Ike's low tier for a reason

Heck, DK even has a 50/50 matchup on him
That's probably for meta game reasons. You have to see these characters from all levels of play. See if you really want to know if a character is overpowered have a bunch of amateurs play the game. If a bunch of noobs are mostly winning with Ike, then you know he's overpowered.

What I've discovered is that someone who's not an expert at Smash doesn't have to try too hard with Ike to win. They can spam the Smash attacks and send people flying. My friend's 5 year old cousin loves Ike 'cause he can keep up with the big kids by slamming his ginormous sword around.

I'm pretty sure that's not the way to tell if a character is overpowered. Ike has a bunch of weaknesses that can easily be exploited that prevent him from being overpowered. Just because Johnny NeverPlayedBeforeton doesn't know how to shield and punish Ike's forward smash doesn't mean Ike is overpowered

If a five year old is beating you because he's spamming Ike's smashes, it's not because Ike is an overpowered character. There's probably a problem on your end
Isn't the true indicator of overpowered is when a character is an issue at all levels at play?

Ike may just be a beginner character, low entry level skill, not as much room for growth, ends up about as powerful everyone else at the highest levels of play.
At least, that's what the ideal is for a beginner character.
