who here is thinking there's an obligation?? it sounds to me like people are just going "hey, wouldn't it be cool if they kept the grass-water-fire triangle?" i haven't seen a single person in this community say that there's a specific need to have all three starter types.

How about you stop being such a Negative Nancy Reagan and let people speculate? Sceptile is as likely as Greninja was, especially with remakes coming up.

No ones saying Sakurai is obligated to. We're just spitballing ideas and using the fact the Fire/Water/Grass trinity is a recurring theme in Pokemon.

Well that solves one mystery.

For real though there's no reason to really count Wonder Red or any other Wonderful 101 out of the roster just yet; after all, Sakurai only posted a trophy. There's nothing stopping him from turning around and rigging the model for use as a playable character (especially since every playable character has a trophy and stuff). In fact I'm surprised Sakurai didn't pull off a good trick on the community yet by posting a trophy of a character who actually got included in the actual roster~

Meh. I don't think I came off as THAT smug. I just don't think there's any reason for him to be included, and people saying that he will be just because there's a fire and water starter are obviously wrong because they're taking a "wouldn't that be neat?" scenario and promoting it as gospel.

fair enough, man. i just don't like you taking a tone that suggests people shouldn't even think about it. voice your opinion with actual reasons and evidence.

here's my support for believing sceptile could happen:
1. water-fire-grass has been in every pokemon game and is a staple of the series at this point
2. it'd make up for the loss of ivysaur in a similar way to greninja taking squirtle's place and lucario taking mewtwo's
3. (this only just happened so it's totally not applicable for past me but) it would promote the new gen 3 remakes

i'm not going to parade around saying "sceptile is happening oh my god it is foretold by these small facts" but i think it's more reasonable than you say.

also let me clarify: yeah you didn't really come off as that smug. i was letting my memory of your post be colored by the adamantditto video i watched where most everyone was laughing at the prospect of sceptile in smash like it was some impossible joke. that's just rude, man! not your fault, obviously, but ugh...

anyway, sorry for clouding this up with emotions. smash bros. sure is a game with characters.

I personally believe if Dixie is included in the roster she'll most likely be a secret character that won't be revealed prior to the game's release. But you never know, E3 is only six weeks away and there's bound to be a couple character reveals that week.

Also unrelated but I just wanted to throw this out there; I really hope Lucas doesn't get cut from the roster. I've always sucked at playing Ness in all incarnations of Smash Bros, but I was pretty decent with Lucas. I'd really hate to lose him.

i'd only be cool with lucas being gone if he paves the way for a new mother 3 rep. kumatora or duster would kick all kinds of ass... though i'd accept the masked man, too. otherwise, though, lucas is a nice character to have around.
