The Centurians fit Palutena more than Pit anyway, so Pit getting a new one isn't too out of the question.

Idk, considering Pit is the captain of the royal guards or whatever, him having them as a FS fits well enough. That said, I'd much rather have Pit use the Great Sacred Treasure.
Whether or not the images are legit, I'm hoping Palutena is playable. I missed any posts or info about assists not having outlines, that sounds like something Sakurai would add to a post that I'd miss.

Back on the topic if "what Smash introduced me to", the list is long, so I'll stick just with what interests me the most.

Before the original I'd never heard of Earthbound, and after the end screen in smash I assumed one would come to N64 (didn't quite work that way). I was aware of F-zero, but my interest in its character library didn't come until Melee with the introduction of Trophies.

Melee showed me Fire Emblem for the first time, like many people. Another trophy set I remember being interested in was Custom Robo, though I have yet to touch the series. I was also introduced to Game and Watch, though I was indirectly familiar, I think Gameboy Camera had a G&W minigame on it.

In Brawl I got introduced to Sin and Punishment, which I bought and loved the moment it was made available.

The rest of the playables I was already deeply invested in, so... when I bought the first game I was pretty much bouncing off the walls for it. Same for every game since actually.
Mildly amusing note:

Prior to Melee I referred to the collective protagonists of Game & Watch games (or back then "Classic Mode in Game & Watch Gallery") as "Stick Figure Man."
Well I mean you weren't really incorrect. "Mr. Game & Watch" as a single personality was invented for Melee. Prior to that there was no such character by that name, they were just ... random stick figures.
I think Sakurai missed out on a golden opportunity there, Kriven. I'd main him for the name alone (he's pretty boss as is anyway).

who is that person in the background?
That's Viridi from Kid Icarus Uprising.

...are those little dots centurions flying around in the background?
They might be the forces of nature.
So is Viridi being shown a coincidence?
To be perfectly fair, the 3ds Kid Icarus Stage is based off of a battlefield against Viridi... So showing her there isn't surprising.
I really hope this is buildup to some sort of Palutena reveal.

Also Viridi looks very menacing in that picture. Really cool stuff.
This confirms it. Palutena in Pit's Final Smash is replaced by Thanatos.
Come on hades or medusa, I'm wouldn't mind palutena, but I prefer villains. Heck my favs are Ganondorf and Wario for PJ M atm.
