I don't think Pachirisu got in... Did Piplup usurp Pachichi's cuteness? O_O
Yeah if you saw the anime and fansites you'd know that Piplup was super popular.

It also makes me wonder about Mewtwo. Will they use a Gen 6 Pokemon instead?

I don't think so. If you meant someone who is somehow comparable to Mewtwo (meaning a bipedal energy-ball toting flavor), there's not really anyone in Gen 6 who fits the bill and is really memorable (as far as I can remember, as I said they weren't memorable).

But if you meant just replaced with any Gen 6 in favor of getting them over Mewtwo, I'd once again say no. Mewtwo is a popular Pokemon who has roots deep in the series, and after fans probably asked for his return after Brawl I'm pretty sure he has at least been considered, especially with his alternate forms giving him Gen 6 relevance.

Not only that, but you can CAPTURE him in Gen 6. In fact, they make sure you can capture him in EVERY Generation in one form or another (Granted they do this with many Pokemon, so perhaps that's a moot point).

The best part of Brawl was finding Hamtaro, Final fantasy, Mickey mouse and Bomberman in the chronicle section, so essentially they already have been in smash bros!
You guys are going to make me seriously want Hamtaro in the game. >.>;
so imagine this,

what if,

espurr was a pokéball pokémon too?

I'm gonna be controversial and talk about a character I was unhappy to see back in Smash; I don't want to be a buzzkill or start a flame war or anything since I'm pretty stoked for the game anyways and really want to get a Wii U to be able to play this, but here goes:

I was annoyed to see Lucario return to the roster.

I was actually disappointed to see it reappear.

Personally, I don't think Lucario should've even been in Brawl to begin with. There are so many more iconic Pokémon that could have been included into the game before it was even picked (Though, to be fair, not very many Diamond/Pearl Pokémon come to mind as iconic, it was kind of a lackluster gen. for me)

Even now, it should have been replaced with one of the X and Y Pokémon if not a return of Mewtwo (which became relevant again because of the whole Mega Evolution thing)

I'm hoping that they'll reveal the triumphant return of Mewtwo because, if anything, I consider it to be the most memorable "boss" Pokémon in the franchise. It really has more of a character and specific backstory than any of the later legendaries, which all follow the same "ancient legend, force of nature, holding together the balance of the cosmos" clichés ad infinitum. A cool Final smash, or even alternate gameplay style(like Samus/Zero Suit Samus) could be using its mega forms which would have different movesets based on the types. (I'm not entirely sure what they are because I haven't actually played X/Y, but still)

Lucario just doesn't have the same relevance or impact as Mewtwo on the franchise; I mean, it basically got a replacement a generation afterwards, so why even keep it in Smash if we have that Zoroark thingy?

I think that if they did something similar (by picking a similar type of Pokémon) during Melee, they'd put Sneasel (or something similar in build from maybe gen 3) in the game: it'd make no sense and people would be really confused about the whole ordeal, so why Lucario?

EDIT: I Second the motion for Hawlucha in Smash, though. Luchadores instantly win in my book. I'd tear down all of my reasoning I had against Lucario in favor of putting in Hawlucha.
I think that Lucario is slightly more popular in Japan than people realize. Either that or Nintendo really wants to PUSH him as being a popular Pokemon and shove him down people's throats (Kind of like what they do with Rosalina lately, but I actually LIKE her).

Another thing is the fact that Generation IV was released roughly a year before Brawl. It was really trying to push a mascot for that Generation, kind of like how Roy was showboating a Fire Emblem game that was being released on GBA in japan. I feel like this may have been the cause for Mewtwo's exclusion from Brawl. I picture some higher up being like "Make sure Lucario gets in" and forcing a cut to be made somewhere. However, maybe Sakurai just likes Lucario more. He did say how he was proud of his development team during Brawl, because without them Lucario wouldn't have even been in the game. Just picture Brawl with no Mewtwo OR Lucario.

Anyway, I definitely anticipate the return of Mewtwo in this Smash. Zoroark definitely was designed to be some sort of rare SORT OF Legendary Pokemon to mirror Lucario, but as far as I can tell it never really caught on. I'm glad they stopped trying for that in X/Y.
I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one dissapointed with Lucario.
Yeah, I expected him to be replaced with Mewtwo or possibly Zoroark. Zoroark could have been pretty interesting, tbh.
Zoroark I actually like a little more because they aren't AS pushy with him. Notice how they tried pushing Lucario as being relevant again with a Mega Evolution and Zoroark wasn't even available in the game until PokeBank.

What I think I'd like even more is the fact that he would have an alternate playstyle to Lucario and Mewtwo. His concepts don't really mesh with either of their fighting styles, so it would be cool in my opinion. And yet with Lucario present it would just feel like I'm liking him for the reasons that Nintendo wants me to. xD Which I guess is the point.

What the hell am I talking about?
Lucario is still very relevant (heck, he's the whole mascot of the Mega Evolution in X/Y), but, yeah, I was dissapointed in that choice too
