Why not both?
Hey, remember when Sakurai said they were considering to add Mega Mewtwo Y in the game?
At least Charizard's Mega evolution grants it one extra advantage against Jigglypuff. It is no longer quad weak against roll out.
He's probably just powered up like Wario-Man.

C'mon. You know the answer to this question.

C'mon.

I really hope they don't just shoehorn that "full-out final form" mechanic though into more than two characters. I mean, if Luigi just kinda moves back and forth just vacuuming everyone up, or Sonic turns into a yellow bullet that has lousy turning mechanics that's different - simply giving characters temporary access to a powered-up moveset is just...lazy :/

EDIT: except if they add Super Saiyan Olimar.
of course
Isn't the point of a Final Smash to be OP?
I feel like Wario-Man and the Mega Pokemon getting "super powerful transformations" is fine, really. It might be lazy, but if its representing the character well enough, who even cares?

That being said, Giga Bowser should be reduced to a boss character like Melee, while giving Bowser a whole new final smash, preferably with one of the many machines he uses in the games. Dat Koopa Klown Kar could make for a fun final smash!
As much as giving him Clown Car as a Final Smash would be a good thing, I fear that removing the chance to play as Giga Bowser would make a lot of fans of him rage.
I think that Charizard and Mewtwo will Mega Evolve during their Final Smash...

But their actual Final Smash will involve them using a sick fiery/psychic blast attack (Blast Burn/Psystrike come to mind). The fact that they become Mega is just a visual aesthetic.

I mean, it's not like Sakurai has ever attempted to isolate a chunk of his fans before oh wait, never mind

I can't believe I'm about to write a wall of text in response to this.

I actually think Warioman is hilariously OP and about as fun to play against as a good Metaknight (which is not fun)

Really, for a Final Smash to work it should be OP "within reason".
You have characters who are able to only catch one opponent in a Final Smash, but the attack is near-instant and instantly KO's (like Captain Falcon, Marth, Ike, Link etc.) - characters who have a single attack with a duration that can take multiple characters offscreen (Mario, Lucario, Diddy Kong, basically half of the roster) and characters who transform, run around the stage temporarily transformed into a powerful form and can make direct contact while in an invulnerable state (Wario, and Sonic)
And then you have Peach's which is basically garbage lol

Ideally, all Final Smashes should be dodgeable, shouldn't they?

The former two examples of Final Smashes require some form of skill in order to dodge them. You can spot-dodge or jump over Marth or Link's Final Smash. Diddy Kong, Ness or Lucario's Final Smashes can be dodged. You can position yourself defensively against Olimar's rocket, even though it does take up a considerable amount of the screen. But play against a good Wario (not like "yeah I play Wario" we're talking Wario main) and you're pretty much done - you have almost no opportunity to dodge, roll away, tumble etc. He'll sit on top of you until your dodge animations end, and he has plenty of time to do that to the point where you feel like his Final Smash is an eternity ): You can't even argue that "oh yeah he'll fly off stage if he uses his bike" because if any Wario player knows not to do that.

Sonic is a little different. Most of the time, a Sonic will fly around all higgledy-piggledy and you can usually jump or dodge that. Tongue

Bowser is a little different (along with the Landmaster trio to an extent). He's massive but he's really slow, so he's easy to predict and thus easy to dodge. I could see Charizard X sorta-maybe doing that, or Mega Lucario being a combo fiend, but if not and they're just ultra-fast OHKO forms that stay active for 10 seconds, it sounds like you're gonna see a lot of that in For Fun online play just wrecking everyone ):

Though if you're getting competitive in For Fun play then it's probably worth wondering why you're not playing For Glory instead, lol
It does seem like this time around that a lot of Final Smashes have been buffed. Look at Pit and Kirby for example compared to what their FSes once were.

Even the weaker looking FSes seem to have good range or the like to make up for it, like WFT's fan pattern or Rosalina's power star shooting stars not only every direction, but that bounces.

The only one so far that seemed a little weak is the Villager's, but the mechanics behind it aren't clear, so it might be better than it appears.
Final Smashes in Brawl were incredibly unbalanced. Mario's was horrible since you can dodge it every time. No really, you just need to jump over the incredibly slow moving fire wave, easy enough.

The mafia is all here.

The one with the yellow shirt is staring at my soul (and probably yours too).
I wonder if those old "viking" hats from the original game return in some way.

Maybe Kirby will wear it when he copies Villager?
