I just had a random thought ... what is Kirby going to look like when he swallows a Mii? Do you think he'll copy that specific Mii's hair?
I got to play after about 3 and a half hours of standing in line.
It was 2 minute time battles with items on, no stock.

[12:40:20 AM] Vipershark: so i got super lucky
[12:40:27 AM] Vipershark: there was a group of 3 people and they needed a 4th
[12:40:39 AM] Vipershark: so i got to jump at least an hour's worth of line and go straight to the front to play with them
[12:40:52 AM] Vipershark: SOME IDIOT told me to use newcomers and ugh
[12:41:07 AM] Vipershark: i should have used link and sonic to get an accurate feel for how different the game is since i'm familiar with them
[12:41:09 AM] Vipershark: anyway
[12:41:18 AM] Vipershark: we played with the wii u pro controllers, which i haven't used before
[12:41:55 AM] Vipershark: so not only was it an exercise in playing the game for the first time ("but it's smash bros" yeah but new characters) but i also wasn't used to the controller layout at all
[12:42:12 AM] Vipershark: if you remember when the pro controller first came out i was disappointed that it put the face buttons in the secondary area
[12:42:17 AM] Vipershark: well, that kept tripping me up
[12:42:39 AM] Vipershark: there were a few times i'd try to do some c-sticking only do reach down with my thumb and hit nothing because the right stick is ABOVE the buttons
[12:43:35 AM] Vipershark: not to mention that i kept trying to play with Y/B layout instead of B/A since i'm so used to it (even the gamecube places X and Y above and to the right so it might as well be Y/B) which was throwing me off as well
[12:43:54 AM] Vipershark: so i kept jumping when i'd try to smash and i kept smashing when i'd try to A
[12:43:58 AM] Vipershark: and it was pretty confusing all around
[12:44:16 AM] Vipershark: anyway once i got semi used to it, i was playing as megaman in the first round... and he's freaking TERRIBLE
[12:44:44 AM] Vipershark: or well i mean i guess to be fair you have to adjust to his playstyle but there was nowhere NEAR enough time to do so and i was using a different controller layout so tl;dr i really sucked
[12:45:05 AM] Vipershark: i was expecting megaman to have some melee moves (a punch and kick at least) like in mvc in addition to the buster but
[12:45:08 AM] Vipershark: nope, he just shoots
[12:45:28 AM] Vipershark: and he can use some powers with his smashes but i was too busy fumbling with the controller to even figure them out
[12:45:36 AM] Vipershark: he felt really uncomfortable and i didnt like him
[12:45:41 AM] Vipershark: i got 3rd place
[12:46:24 AM] Vipershark: in the second round i used the villager who was more traditional and had actual melee stuff but i was still fumbling with the contoller so naturally i couldn't really get good at it or anything
[12:46:31 AM] Vipershark: i got 3rd place again lol
[12:46:44 AM] Vipershark: also greninja is EXTREMELY OP and won both matches
[12:47:05 AM] Vipershark: and it seemed like there was at least one greninja in every match and greninja also happened to win a majority of the matches, lol
[12:47:32 AM] Vipershark: as far as how the game feels, i was too busy fumbling around to really pay attention but i think it feels faster paced than brawl but still a bit floaty maybe?
[12:47:55 AM] Vipershark: but to be fair i was playing characters that i wasnt used to so it was also i just wasnt adapted to their playstyles enough to really know
[12:48:02 AM] Vipershark: in short, it was smash brothers.
[12:48:11 AM] Vipershark: i didn't get to play the 3ds version but it was there
[12:48:17 AM] Vipershark: it... looks like smash bros
[12:48:17 AM] Vipershark: lol
[12:48:21 AM] Vipershark: that's about it

pics so that it happened

they gave out these stickers to everyone in line and i also got a pin for playing but i didn't get a picture of that (i can if you want)

i was actually there!!!!!!

this is the lady with the 3dses attached to her. People in line could play 3ds smash bros but I didn't get a chance to. A guy also came with 2dses later on, which you can see one of them in the background.

Some highlights posted by Nintendo from the roundtable discussion. Mostly just posting because it shows a LITTLE bit more of Pac Man gameplay, and it also shows all of Mario's custom moves, which look interesting. I'm really looking forward to some of the other ones.

It does make me worry for characters like Lucas though, whose specials can easily just be passed on to Ness. That would be disappointing to me, because what I really liked about Lucas wasn't his special moves, but his standard ones. His Up Smash was awesome.
I drove to the (semi) local Best Buy Smash event today to try out the game. Got there 30 minutes before it started and waited about 5 hours in line until I got to play. The line was so long that probably 100ish people were told that they couldn't play today, since the store was closing at 9. Each person was allowed one 3-minute free-for-all match against other people in line.

I ended up playing as Villager the whole time, and he's an interesting character to play.
-bowling ball (side smash) has very short range and is hard to hit, especially in free-for-all
-dropping the potted plant (dash attack) had long range, since the pot flies out of his hands
-down smash works like a pitfall, so it's good for follow-up attacks
-up smash is powerful but kind of short range
-side b is good for recovery and works well as a projectile
-down b takes a while to set up, wasn't able to get a hit from it
-I got the final smash with him twice, but it works similar to greninja where you have to line it up with the enemies in front of you

The 3DS version was pretty smooth, although it took a while to get used to playing with the circle pad.

Unfortunately I forgot to bring my camera so I couldn't take any pictures. Sad

Also Vipershark, did you have to ask for the smash pin? I saw some people walk out of the store with them, but when I came around to play they either ran out or weren't handing them out.

If anyone has a chance to go out there on Saturday to try out the demo, I highly suggest doing so. It's a lot of fun, although I would recommend getting there early to avoid the crowds.

Nope, they gave them out for free to everyone who actually got to hold a controller.
There were two versions, one of the game title and one of the Smash logo and I chose the Smash logo one.

I know that, but he said he hadn't played it yet, and I was asking if anyone else had.
I found a video with all the Amiibo's we know so far including Prototypes of there boxes they come in.

You know, given the fact that the customization is just each B move having three different variations, there might be a chance that it wouldn't be banned.

The only things I could think of that would prevent it would be if some variations were extremely OP, (although I'm sure individual variations could be banned I guess if it would be a problem) or the fact that Dittos could be a problem

Then again, Toon Link.
Toon Link has relevant things to advertise (Spirit Tracks, Wind Waker HD), but Lucas doesn't unless they bring Mother 3 to the Wii U worldwide. I don't want to see Lucas go, but the odds are really stacked against him.
i doubt mother 3 is coming over to the US. nintendo would have to translate it, which isnt as easy as just porting the game, so the chances are slim
at the same time, there isn't much evidence that this smash bros is going to be any more catered to american audiences than the previous ones were--little mac not withstanding.

as long as japan loves mother 3 (which it does), lucas, or possibly another mother 3 character, has a chance.
I doubt Lucas will make the cut, but it's possible.

The only argument for this is because Lucas isn't exactly as important to the Mother/Earthbound series as Ness is worldwide. Most people associate Ness with Earthbound and that's one reason why he's still in smash bros today. Sure, Lucas is popular in Japan and that may be the only reason why he may get in.

Unless Nintendo and Itoi have plans to remake the earthbound series and for the 3DS, or in the least port each individual one to the 3DS in the same manner they do with the "3D" titles, I still hold my doubts.
Supposedly Sal Romano has leaked Nintendo's intentions to release DLC characters, so it's possible for cut veterans to return after the fact.
fuck DLC characters

please dont
