Keep Lucas, bag Ness. Tongue

I loved Lucas, bite me.

here's my support for believing sceptile could happen:
1. water-fire-grass has been in every pokemon game and is a staple of the series at this point
2. it'd make up for the loss of ivysaur in a similar way to greninja taking squirtle's place and lucario taking mewtwo's
3. (this only just happened so it's totally not applicable for past me but) it would promote the new gen 3 remakes

i'm not going to parade around saying "sceptile is happening oh my god it is foretold by these small facts" but i think it's more reasonable than you say.

also let me clarify: yeah you didn't really come off as that smug. i was letting my memory of your post be colored by the adamantditto video i watched where most everyone was laughing at the prospect of sceptile in smash like it was some impossible joke. that's just rude, man! not your fault, obviously, but ugh...

anyway, sorry for clouding this up with emotions. smash bros. sure is a game with characters.

No problem. People can think whatever they want. I just think some characters, logically, have a better chance at inclusion than others. Right now we've got 4 Pokemon reps: Pikachu, Charizard, Lucario, and Greninja. There's no reason to think Jigglypuff won't be the fifth. If Sakurai decides to use a sixth, I hope it'll be Mewtwo.

1. I know the water/fire/grass thing is a big deal in the root series, but in the spinoff it doesn't really have any bearing. It's all about cross-promotion and there's no precedent for it in the Smash games. So far we've had Electric/Normal (Fairy), Electric/Electric/Normal(Fairy)/Psychic, and Electric/(Trainer w/Fire/Water/Grass)/Fighting & Steel/Normal(Fairy). There's not really a reason to believe Sakurai would suddenly adhere to having one of each starter type.
2. Again, there's not really a reason to think he'd need to do a 1:1 replacement of a character. Mewtwo wasn't swapped for another Psychic type, Pichu wasn't swapped for another Electric type, etc. It seems like he's just swapping within the franchise, like Roy for Ike, rather than swapping within types.
3. I can't argue that' It'd be perfect. Especially if these remakes include all-new TBA Megas for the starters.

Dixie's chances diminish each day that passes?

I personally believe if Dixie is included in the roster she'll most likely be a secret character that won't be revealed prior to the game's release. But you never know, E3 is only six weeks away and there's bound to be a couple character reveals that week.

Also unrelated but I just wanted to throw this out there; I really hope Lucas doesn't get cut from the roster. I've always sucked at playing Ness in all incarnations of Smash Bros, but I was pretty decent with Lucas. I'd really hate to lose him.

Up until DKTF came out, I thought Dixie was in for sure. Once it came out and Cranky was revealed as a playable character, I thought it could go either way. Dixie has been playable longer, but Cranky has been with the series longer and is one of the most recognizable in the franchise. I'd be happy with either, but I'd prefer Dixie.

I could see Lucas getting trimmed, but at the same time, Sakurai was looking to put him in as far back as Melee, so maybe he has some staying power. I hope Lucas stays because he's the bridge to getting Claus/Masked Man. Right now it's like having Mario without Luigi. I'd love Lucas and Claus in the game together WITH Ness.

yeah, no counter argument here.

i get your point, but i didn't mean type-wise; i meant gameplay-wise. lucario's aura sphere move is obviously comparable to mewtwo's shadow ball, but i think the two are just similar in general--an observation i'm sure many had when we started to understand how lucario played in brawl. following that, greninja is a speedy lightweight character with water-element moves (in terms of smash bros. elements, i mean). sceptile would probably be about the same as ivysaur when it comes to weight, movepool, and control.

actually, that could be one point in sceptile's favor. because most of the grass starters learn basically the same moves, they could get away with porting ivysaur's moveset and just giving him sceptile's model with new animations. it would take almost no creative effort. not that i'd really care to play as sceptile if that happened...

on the donkey kong note, i'd love to play as cranky kong. as much as i do like dixie kong, if we can't get a dkc antagonist (k. rool would be the only real choice in this category but still), i'd take cranky kong, because there's no way he wouldn't have an incredibly off-the-wall and unique moveset.
Look, Sceptile would be super rad alright? But I'd rather see Blaziken (who also isn't likely because we already have a fire starter), Plusle and Minun (probably not likely either) or Gardevoir (whom I think may very well happen because she's popular, recently Fairy type, and in a sense is technically the final boss of X and Y).

I know the whole Fairy typing thing is the same argument people bring up for Jiggly, but I still don't think she's guaranteed to return.

Also yes, I've started to feel that Dixie's chances have been slipping away very slightly because the Tropical Freeze hype has been dying down.

And I want to see Lucas back, but I won't be too heartbroken if he's gone. They just can't get rid of my boy Ness.
Is it me, or is Mario Kart slowly (not-so-slowly?) seeping into Smash? It's only a matter of time before they fuse entirely and become one..!

Captain Falcon would be okay with this, it'd mean he'd finally get to race again.

Jokes aside, Super smash Kart would be neat considering it'd be mario kart with a bit of kirby air ride and anything Mario kart hasn't already taken from F-zero, and a varied cast of racers.

Plus, if they let characters change transportation, you could get some hilarious combinations, like... Samus riding Rhambi, Bowser in the Blue falcon or Ganondorf in a landmaster.

(also silly stuff like Epona keeping up with F-zero cars and spaceships. Unless they use other things from Zelda for Link's kart... or just make Zelda themed Karts.)
(Excite bike guy could be playable there! Or loan someone his bike at least)
Surprisingly, I actually like that idea, Terminal.

While they're at it, maybe they could also give the same treatment to the Mario Party games? It would certainly make for a good Mario Party game that the series so desperately needs for a long time.

Also, don't get me started on a Nintendo crossover RPG because I had quite enough with hearing about Mushroom Kingdom Hearts for the umpteenth time.

You see, there's no rule that Blaziken can't be in just because it's a Fire starter. If Blaziken was popular and interesting enough, it would probably be considered right away as a fighter. Besides that, the question of whether or not a character would be playable probably involves an extensive evaluation of what makes the character interesting and stand out from other fighters. There are reasons why I don't believe Blaziken is likely either, but because he's a "fire starter" isn't one of them. I personally think that Blaziken would be redundant around characters like Captain Falcon and Lucario, given that the untrained eye would likely just compare Blaziken to them and constantly complain about its inclusion over another character or Pokemon.

Also Gardevoir is extremely unlikely, it was shown as one of the Pokemon in Pokeballs during the Charizard cutscene. It's not IMPOSSIBLE she'd be playable, but I believe that those are the actual Pokeball pokemon they were showcasing, and I doubt they would just outright show a playable character just standing around in a cutscene, especially a newcomer.

Lastly, regarding Dixie, the hype for Tropical Freeze dying down would very likely have nothing to do with Dixie's or any other DK character's inclusion. The characters were probably all implemented in some way by the time that Tropical Freeze came out, so if Dixie is included or not, it's probably because she was already included or not before the game was even released. If they did get her or any other character to a playable stage by the time the "hype died down", then I seriously doubt they'd can all their hard work on a character because of that. The thing is that at this point we just don't know who's a character and who's not.
Dixie and Chrom, Dixie and Chrom. That's all I want! Sakurai, you can fill up the roster with Koopalings and babies for all I care, as long as I get Dixie and Chrom!
Let's not give him any ideas with the Mario babies, please.

Since they seem to be cool with changing up movesets this time around, I might consider getting my hopes up for a not-Captain-Falcon Ganondorf. I'd also like to see Ness and Lucas with psychic attacks that they actually use in their own games.
If Sakurai can make PK Rockin'/PK Love work as a Final Smash, I'll be all over that!

Ideas I've had for Super Smash Kart:

Vehicle types:

Karts (Mario Kart)
Dashers (Mario Kart)
ATVs (Mario Kart)
Bikes (Excitebike)
Jetpacks (Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast)
ARMs (Kirby's Air Ride)

Each character has at least one unique vehicle, some have more. Instead of adapting the existing Smash Bros. roster, this roster is decided from the ground up based on characters that better fit in a racing game. I've chosen one representative from every racing game I can think of. I've limited myself to fifty unique racers with no cap on palette-swap characters.

Characters:

1. Mario – Super Mario Kart
2. Luigi – Mario Kart 64
3. Bowser – Mario Kart: Super Circuit
4. Peach – Mario Kart: Double Dash
5. Yoshi – Mario Kart DS
6. Wario – Mario Kart 7
7. Toad – Mario Kart Arcade GP 2
8. Waluigi – Mario Kart Arcade GP DX
9. Rosalina – Mario Kart 8
10. Koopa Troopa – Excitebike: Bun Bun Mario Battle Stadium

Some characters have alternate costumes. These costumes don't have any change to their stats, and some are forced for some vehicles (Peach and Rosalina's are forced, for example. Though they can be chosen for use in other vehicles). Asterisks imply a forced outfit.

Palette-Swap Characters

Palette-swap characters have their own slots on the character select screen and have different stats (and sometimes karts, which are usually also palette-swaps) than their base character. They are simple retextures or recolors and are much less resource intensive to make, so they are simply in addition to the existing characters. These characters have no unique animations (save for victory animations), but may have unique voices. Asterisk imply that the respective costumes of their bass character can be used here as well.

Every character can use every vehicle, weightclass regardless. Vehicles which are lighter than the character they're hauling will have a speed and acceleration penalty, but usually greater handling and drift.

To differentiate this game from the Mario Kart series, there are a few changes to the general mechanics. The percentage rate is borrowed from the Smash franchise. Each time you bump an object or get hit by an item the percent goes up. Like in Smash, a higher percent means more knock-back, making it easy for opponents to blast you off the course (it also means items will spin you out for a longer period of time). This rewards good drivers and punishes reckless ones.

I haven't thought about items or tracks... I know there will be some “Legacy” cups dedicated to tracks from other racing games (namely Mario Kart and F-Zero).
dude, you are completely off your rocker when it comes to theorizing about game ideas.

just like me! Big Grin

(if i were to make just one suggestion here: maybe combine popo and nana back into one character and have their signature vehicle be an ice-themed motorcycle with a side car)
I thought about lots of different ways to have Popo and Nana as a singular character, but cramming them into regular Karts always looks awkwards as far as I can visualize...

Maybe Nana could be an alt. costume?
