You know what, I actually am going to say I PREFER Lucario to be announced first if they have him at all, because what I want to happen is that Mewtwo or some equally awesome Pokemon to be found as a difficult secret character.

That's something I said before on this thread and I forgot. I:
That's very true. I actually think that they should keep a large part of the roster a secret till the game comes out. so it'd be a big surprise and feel really awesome. it'd be like "whaaaat! this character's in this game? duuuude!" it'd be something to get excited about finding out while you're actually playing the game.
Sakurai said in an interview he was against keeping things secret this time because everything gets exposed on the internet.
I thought that was in reference to the Subspace Emissary style movies that get posted online before the game is even released. I could be wrong, I don't have the article.
I know I was completely against Lucario's inclusion in Brawl, and never really liked the character until actually using one in the Pokemon games (though it did help that Project M's Lucario is actually fun as hell to play). But Lucario's a pretty ironic pokemon mascot these days. It has this cool factor you don't really see in the other popular pokemon, and while it debuted in Gen 4, it still remained somewhat relevant by showing up in both the successor gens. I probably wouldn't have hated Lucario had Black 2/White 2 came out before Brawl or if Mewtwo wasn't cut in place of the Fighting/Steel type.

If we're going to cut anything from Pokemon, finally do it in with Jigglypuff. I don't care if it's one of the original 12, Jigglypuff was sort of popular back then, but it sure as heck isn't popular now.

What I think I'd like even more is the fact that he would have an alternate playstyle to Lucario and Mewtwo. His concepts don't really mesh with either of their fighting styles, so it would be cool in my opinion. And yet with Lucario present it would just feel like I'm liking him for the reasons that Nintendo wants me to. xD Which I guess is the point.

What the hell am I talking about?

Zoroark appears as a wild Pokémon in Pokemon Village.

If Zoroark is going to be playable, I wonder how they would handle his Illusion ability, since that's his main selling point.

I'm not a fan of Lucario, but I'm not disappointed by his inclusion. If Mewtwo returns, I'm so going to play Mewtwo vs Lucario grudge matches.

It was. I think this game will have secret characters. I was just thinking how it wouldn't make any sense for them to make a trailer and hype Chrom from Fire Emblem:Awakening as a newcomer, so I guess , if he's in, that he's going to be a secret character
Speaking of Subspace, I feel like I'll be one of the few that will miss it.

Not for its gameplay mind you, but it made unlocking everyone a lot easier. I know unlocking the characters is half the fun, but when you're trying to do it for multiple Wiis, it gets a bit tedious
Chrom is cool and everything, but I'll miss Ike... Sad

This. I kind of wish they would've cut Jigglypuff back in Melee. I get that it was initially added due to the running gag in the anime, but it is pretty irrelevant today. It has arguably the blandest moveset in the game, and only contributes to the over-representation of Gen. I. It could be argued that it could represent the creation of the new Fairy-type, but I honestly don't think that's good enough to make it a genuinely fun character (Is it going to sparkle its enemies into submission?) I don't care about its status as a legacy character or whatever either, and don't look forward to seeing it return.

I didn't particularly like Lucario and Zoroark in the games, but they do have more to build off. They could probably do something cool with Zoroark if they tried. As for Mewtwo, I hope they confirm him so everyone stops being uneasy about Lucario's inclusion.

I would be all for cutting Jigglypuff, but part of me kind of loves Jigglypuff as the joke character of the series.

I'd definitely cut Jigglypuff in a heartbeat for any other of my wanted characters, Pokemon or otherwise. I'd also be willing to see Pokemon Trainer cut, or having Charizard separated.

As much as I loved the 3 character concept and liked Squirtle and Ivysaur, I just feel like Charizard alone resonates with more fans and would make it easier on development time. I wouldn't mind to see PT return the way he was made, though, I just don't want to miss out on characters I'd rather have more is all. We'll see I guess.

@ [robo9]: I really think they should employ some kind of tournament friendly option where there is some kind of code or something that people can unlock endgame and tell to people that unlocks the entire roster. Like a password or button combo.

@ Paladin: I don't think they should cut Ike in favor of Chrom. Ike was given a very heavy play style, which complemented him and made him a lot different than Marth and his predecessor Roy. I think that Ike still has a good chance to stay, he was featured in 2 FE games and they both did reasonably well and were international releases. Roy's game was a bit of a flop as I understand, hence making him easier to cut.

What I want to see from Chrom is sort of an in between of Marth's graceful and Ike's heavy playstyles. I also would love to see potentially a play style that reflects the partner system (I forget what its actually called) from Awakening, perhaps even involving making him a dual character with somebody, perhaps even Awakenings avatar character.

Lucina
The thing is, FE isn't a very popular series, and therefore it probably won't go further than 2 characters (which is a shame, really). The FE characters in smash have been Marth and the main lord of the most recent game. Therefore, I highly doubt Ike will return, even though he was a badass character in Brawl and in FE.

Also, I think Lucina would be a Marth clone, and even though I like her, I don't think she should be in smash.
The makers of the new Smash seem to really be pushing characters with unique gimmicks this time around. In the newcomers alone we have Megaman, who has his projectile primary attack gimmick; Rosalina, with her team gimmick; and Lil' Mac, whose gimmick seems to be that he's worthless in the air but insanely powerful on the ground. On top of that they reintroduced Olimar pretty early, suggesting he was one of the first characters the team considered, and now Lucario with his percentage-based aura gimmick.

I honestly think this is a big reason for Lucario's presence in the new game, rather than choosing a pokemon based solely on popularity or representing the new generation. Not that I'm saying those things don't play as a factor at all.
Instead of cutting Jigglypuff, I wish they'd buff him to be honest. Compared to Brawl, he's a shade of his former self compared to Melee.
