Ugh

Why can't they ever just keep Japanese stuff Japanese... If a charcter's name is "Ryo" and he lives in Kyoto kids can understand that : /

Yep, that sounds like pokemon alright.

No no no Pokemon actually makes more sense - and that's saying a lot. like there's enough suspension of disbelief in play that you're like "ah, yeah - these Pokemon just exist and help us do things"

Yokai Watch, on the other hand is like
"Ugh, I've got the worst cold right now"
"OH NO, SHE'S POSSESSED BY DEMONS. We GOTTA DO SOMETHING"
*goes around holding watch up to ghosts. keep in mind the watch is required to SEE the ghosts and no one else has a special watch most of the time except you....uses ghosts to kill "negotiate" with other ghosts - those being a swan with a runny nose and a spiky nut responsible for making you cough*
"WOW, I FEEL SO FULL OF ENERGY AND MY NOSE ISN'T RUNNING ANYMORE. THANKS, KIDDO!!!"
*You received: $3.57, Milk, Milk, Milk"

No one questions how these ghosts do things. ever.
Wonder if they even mention how some Youkai can take people's souls though their buttholes. Like the Kappa for instance.
But from what I've read, that's not allowed to be referenced in kid's entertainment over in Japan.

Still, I am going to get this game, since I'm really into monsters and spirits of different cultures and legends. Including Youkai. And it looks fun.
Though seeing the American ads for Yo-Kai Watch made my head hurt. The Anime faces on real people could scare little kids. (Hehhehe)

Yeah, I'm REALLY not sure how Yo-Kai Watch is going to hold up stateside. I really haven't heard anything about it - then again, I'm 30 and the game's aimed towards preteens so what the hell do I know lmao. The cartoon during its premiere had about 300,000 people tuning in at any given time - so I guess those are good numbers?

I think the butthole thing is actually constantly sidestepped in this series - but the game's making it seem like they just cast magical powers which makes a big purple smog over the person. One character, "Wazzat" makes people forgetful, and looks like a top hat. He possesses people by sitting on their head.

Sooooo I think they're doing everything they can to dance around the obvious, lmao
Western kids these days are into hyperactive nonsense and Minions... lots of Minions. So I'm not sure how Yo-Kai Watch will work here. It might.
Can see it do decently in the US, not massive and no way the next big thing but as a cult series that has and will develop a fan base? Yep. I can also actually see doing it decently in France and Germany, maybe but not the UK where it would struggle. Probably not as bad as Inazuma Eleven, the other Level 5 RPG series and one of the few Nintendo published games that is cheap as chips new due to how bad it sold. While the 3DS is in a better shape than the Wii U, only places where I've seen Nintendo adverts are on Cartoon Network plus they are pretty old games too (e.g. Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, last year's Pokemon) and not as many places to buy Nintendo games to begin with. Just Game, Grainger Games and possibly Argos might have them as well as the usual online places like Amazon. So it is going to take Nintendo all sorts to make it even the next Splatoon nevermind the next Pokemon.

On the other hand, the game is coming out next year [I don't know when, by the time EU gets it Yokai Watch 2 comes out in the US and the 3rd game in Japan!] and instead Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam is getting released the same time as Japan so the main focus is on that and any momentum from the US release gets lost. Plus Mario is more well known than what is a new RPG series even though it has done well in Japan for the past couple of years. M&L: Paper Jam I'm possibly getting since I actually do like the Mario & Luigi series but Yokai Watch doesn't interest me sadly.

Then again Tomodachi Life was a surprise hit so I don't know.

Seems like a pretty neat game. It does incorrectly call its art style "8-bit" which is annoying but otherwise it looks quite cool.

EDIT: Whoops wrong thread, if someone could move this to the Steam deals thread that'd be good

If a game uses pixel art it's 8 bit
Just looked at the screenshots. That's 16-bit/32-bit, as 8-bit would be something that looks like NES or Master System limitations.
If it's emulating DOS era games, it be VGA graphics. That's an old DOS palette limited to 256 colours.

So Fallout 4 came out in Australia today, but I need to wait until payday on Friday for some money. Even on a pension, I'm impatient. Tongue
Yeah, this whole 8-bit claim is getting really old. Anyone who's had a real 8-bit console knows what they're supposed to look like. Maybe they're getting confused by the 8-bit consoles that had a mix? I.E. the Sega Master System and Game Gear? Didn't those systems have 16-bit graphics? But that would still classify the graphics as 16-bit and not 8-bit, lol. When I hear 8-bit, I think of the NES and GBC limitations of 4 colors per 8x8 mini tile. As long as they follow that rule, it should still look 8-bit, regardless of whether or not they follow the other rules about scanlines or whatever, or decide to use alpha channels.
8-bit is not an aesthetic name.

It refers to the bits of the processor. This is why there are so many different sprite visuals in consoles that use 8-bit processors: the graphical power is wildly different.

If I had to make at least two guesses, Super Mario Maker DLC and Super Smash Bros DLC will be announced by the time this comes out.

Another close contender would be on Splatoon but who really knows?
