I've been on the fence about getting it, but like

Playing Mario 64 without the trident controller just feels weird to me.  Is there a reccomended control scheme? Do you HAVE to use the GamePad?
This is wishful thinking at best, but maybe Nintendo might release a replica that is compatible with the Wii U in the future (it might be a Japanese exclusive thing, though). Either that or some extremely devoted fan (or even one of those third party companies) might whip something up.

My money's on the latter considering how far some fans go. Heck, we're on a forum that replicates and even outclasses the graphics seen in most Nintendo video games!

You can play with the Pro and Classic Controllers, but the best option right now would probably be a Wii U Fight Pad, which is actually a Gamecube-styled Classic Controller. Aside getting used to the R and Z button placement, I thinks works perfectly for N64 games like Mario 64.

Have you gone on the fire emblem subreddit? They're trying to figure out the story already. Apparently, they've deemed the Nohr Prince as "Marx"
Dunno if this has already been brought up, but Club Nintendo is currently offering a free game to anyone who's reached Gold or Platinum status (Platinum folks get more games to choose from). You have to claim it by April 30th.
I thought Club Nintendo was deaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad
I got Mario Kart 7

Oh. This doesn't include the cool Gold or Platinum reward like they used to have, does it?

...Or is that it? I spent over $600 in a single year to get a $5 downloadable game...? :/

Not necessarily.

You spent over $600 in a single year to get a $5 - $50 downloadable game...!

Well I would hope you spent it to have $600 worth of games to play ...

na i just look at em sometimes but they usually collect dust on my shelf

EDIT: I'm Platinum. I'm staring at the gifts now and I'm on the fence between Mario Galaxy 2 and Yoshi's New Island.

Mario Galaxy 2
- Easily the best thing on this list.
- I already own it.
- My copy is signed by Charles Martinet, so why even bother buying it again. Nothing can top this.
- Except it won't be in HD though wtf

Punch-Out
- I don't own it
- This should be $10 by now wtf (don't say well it WAS $10. NO. physical disc is more than $10. Like $35)
- Don't want overpriced punch game

Yoshi's New Island
- I heard this game sucks...but that it's also okay. Just okay
- I probably wouldn't spend money on it
- I don't have to spend money on it
- I don't want to feel like I wasted my reward on a bad game
- I own all the other choices, bar Mario Party Island Tour, but why would I play this without IRL friends (sadly, I do not have IRL friends)
- Good lord Yoshi has big feet

NES Remix 2
- Looks alright
- It's like WarioWare 9-Volt levels. Those are awesome
- My girlfriend might like the challenges
- Wait no she won't just me because she hates stressing out over games LOL

Pushmo World
-What the fuck is Pushmo

DECISIONS

Maybe if Wonderful 101 was on here I'd have some VARIETY but like IT'S GONE

yeah I think I own most of my games because I'm a hoarder...

I just go to Gamestop and ask for Empty DS cases because they almost always have their Club Nintendo codes >: )
I picked Yoshi's New Island, and I'm honestly having a lot of fun with it. It's a little slower and clunkier than the previous Island games, and the story is shit, but it still retains quite a bit of Yoshi charm. My biggest complaint with it right now is how much easier it has been in comparison to the SNES original.

This is all from a guy who also likes YIDS, so take it as you will

Yeah, YIDS was kinda dissapointing. It's NICE but like NOT THAT NICE.  I don't know how they did it but they hire like literally the shittiest composers to do Yoshi's Island music, because the Yoshi games have an atmosphere that it has to set. Yoshi's Island is the preferred atmosphere, but it seems that Yoshi's Story became the new yardstick (which was fine in its own right, and kept its own aesthetic)
YIDS and YNI seem like they're attempting to blend the two, which is what just kills it for me.

I can't play Yoshi games with the sound on anymore. You shouldn't be intensely platforming to Animal Crossing lazytown music.

The new Yoshi games are also riddled with all sorts of bad design decisions: "Let's bring back transformations - but they NEED to be entirely gyrosensor-based!"

If I could liken it to something Disney to streamline the issue, it's basically what Disney did to Dinosaur. "Check out this AMAZING Discovery Channel simulator with REALISTIC DINOSAURS. It's a dark film with zero dialogue save for the narrator."

Months later: "Okay, bear with us: the dinosaurs TALK NOW. DINOSAURS COULD TALK BACK THEN because it's COMMERCIALLY VIABLE"

okay, it isn't like that at all but basically it's how shitty decisions constantly made by the production team to make it more commercially viable only end up falling flat on their face.

That fucking kazoo in YNI. THAT FUCKING KAZOO. IMO, the soundtrack to YIDS was merely lackluster, but YNI's was just offensively terrible.

"it’s funny how the beginning of yoshi’s island where all the yoshis are huddled around baby mario has one of the most beautiful sounding songs in any video game, but the same scene in yoshi’s new island has the worst sounding song in any video game"
