I had thought Starbound was going to usher in the next space age, where everything goes to space, lol.
Well, the zombies went to space.
I need a new kaiju game. I miss those.
Ya know, I'm perfectly happy with more space and more robots. Games with a little more optimism and lasers are great fun.
Oh I'm not against these ages of course, it's just a pattern I noticed, lol. I too am sick of the whole zombie/horror overload. But you know what, to be fair, this age is also the rise of more sandbox type games, like Terraria, Starbound and the others. Is it possible to be sick of these type of games? I'm not suffering from that at all yet, and greatly enjoy them because of the high emphasis on exploration.
I don't usually like sandbox games, tbh. Often I end up lost. It's not so bad if there's a map and some clear objectives, and if the developers have gone to the trouble of making the worlds sculpted in a way to ensure that they'll always be fun to explore... but a lot of time sandbox games end up being barren, glitchy messes. The only one that's "hooked" me, so to speak, is probably Minecraft, but that has more to do with the whole 3D-Spriting thing. Though through that I've become invested in some of the Minecraft world's lore itself.

Usually I prefer to be rewarded for my exploration with story elements, power-ups, whatever... I'm not typically an "Explore the World Because That's Fun" gamer unless the universe of the game really captures me.
My problem with a lot of the sandbox games is that I get content with my little neck of the woods then get bored. Afterwards, I see what everyone else managed to do in that time and feel a bit inadequate in regards to the game so don't feel like going back. In games where a building system is implemented but it isn't the primary focus, it usually feels more like a chore. I hate building in Fallout 4. Throw some beds down, get some mutfruit, watch it all go away in an instant because one main story quest was glitched and I have to start from the beginning.

That's exactly why I feel Terraria and Starbound are the best in this category so far.  Minecraft's Adventure mode is still as empty and barren as it was when it first started...they kept talking about some cool concepts I thought would make exploration actually worth while, but it turned out to be useless.  For example, the Villagers and Temples.  Whatever the villagers have that they want to trade, or whatever you find in those random temples, can easily be obtained right at the beginning of the game, just digging down, mining out the ores, and crafting them yourself, which renders them moot.  In direct contrast to Terraria and Starbound, where you find things you cannot craft while exploring, as well as get new abilities and tools and such. Also, the combat in Terraria and Starbound is a lot more layered and interesting than Minecraft's, so the boredom is held at bay for a much longer period of time. Minecraft is basically legos, which is fine in concept, but the adventure mode is almost totally worthless.
While I've played quite a bit of minecraft, it was mostly due to I was playing it with other people, other players keep me invested in the game. If minecraft never had multiplayer not nearly as many people would have cared about the game. The survival and gathering aspect is boring, combat is a joke, most mods out there are outdated, poorly made, and unbalanced, and if I wanted to just build, i could use a voxel based program or legos. The game is incredibly barren and empty, the void tends to be instantly filled when you bring other players into the mix. Since now you're encouraged to do things like build, either with other people in collaboration, or for the sake of showing off. Players don't mind the gathering and survival aspects as much when another player is there either. It's kinda like if you were trapped in a cave or something in real life, alone it would be unbearable. But if trapped with other people, hey at least you can entertain each other.

And now to stray off topic cause, wynaut.

Recorded some gameplay of Third Strike and uploaded it to youtube, I'm the big blue thong-wearing guy, Urien. First round is glitched due to how replays are handled, it fixes itself in round 2.
Dark Souls 3 is only a month away now.

Hyped.
I just preordered the special edition. The special editions never even come with any pivotal gameplay stuff, I just love the hell out of them.
Nes emulator turns 2d games into 3d still in the beta phase

I wonder what they do to get that 3D effect. I guess it could just be remade stuff.
I don't know if I would say it's 100% impossible to do that kinda stuff - what with all the effects that can be added to emulator output...But this still looks a few weeks in time for April Fool's.
I'm sure people are already aware of this, but nobody's mentioned it ...

The Japanese site for the upcoming Kirby game revealed a lot more information. The most exciting of which is that there is a third new ability called "ESP". (Will probably be renamed "Psychic" in the Western release). No actual details aside from the name are given though.

The site also tells us that Meta Knightmare mode is making a return, which has some Amiibo functionality to it. Additionally, there are stickers that can be found across the game which can be used to customize your robot. (I really hope they are actually visible and not just like a SSBB thing).

Given the current roster of confirmed abilities, here's my amiibo-given ability predictions:

The only ones I'm stuck on are Palutena, Bayonetta, and Rosalina. And Wolf Link, although he'll probably just be treated like normal Link and give Sword.
