To be fair, I thought I read that the Giana sisters didn't actually recieve any notice of legal action from Nintendo. I'm not sure where I read that though, I'll check when I'm home.
I just checked. They urged the developers to withdraw the game, arguing that it was obvious copyright infringement.
All versions of the original go for huge prices these days, and is the most pirated C64 game around.

Nintendo was never keen on computer ports. They rejected offers from anyone who made games for C64, Amiga, and MS DOS.
The team that would later become ID Software pitched a port of SMB3 to them, but they said no.

The engine and source code were later used to make Commander Keen back in 1990. So we did get something good out of it.
but that SMB3 would have been amazing to play on my old PC back then. I like the spin they took on it, not like the horribly-botched megaman ports.

(that raccoon tail is pretty OP tho...lmao)
The later Giana Sisters games are still very Mario like, though I'd argue they have more personality to them, lol. The expressionism and such when Giana bounces off or shoots enemies, and their unique defeat animations x3.
So uuuuhhh ... how about that recent direct, eh?

There's probably something in there that someone cares about ...

...

... right?

Yes, the game very much reminds me of Edvard Munch's "The Screamer" painting

I've never really seen the expressive characterization you're referring to in the Giana games - like I've been playing through Twisted Dreams lately and I can't help but to feel like "cute" Giana has a bad case of risus sardonicus, which was present throughout the DS game, too - I mean if you want to call that "expression" then be my guest lol. That's just less a big goofy grin they gave Giana throughout her rebooted designs.

Though also nothing really stands out to me about the Giana games - I always thought they had really screwy controls. Like I always thought the enemies' death animations were cute if that's actually what you're referring to - but I feel like the later games were more or less resume fodder for the music composers (they've always seemed kinda lackluster save for the incredibly chill soundtrack, which became...metal? for Twisted Dreams)
Yeah, the death animations in the DS game, but also, just some of the things that happen from Giana's actions. For example, when you jump over an owl, they'll look at the screen like S=(, as if confused on where Giana went, lol.

The only one interesting to me was Yoshi's Woolly World 3DS, but only because I never played the original.
Wooly World for 3DS kinda pisses me off, because I feel like I got screwed over as an early adopter. New, exclusive content (even if it's a bit dumb) and as far as we know, the Wii U version isn't getting an update. Not even as DLC. If the Wooly Poochie amiibo unlocks the new content on Wii U, fine. I'd rather buy another amiibo than full price for essentially the same game.

I was also hoping for a "by the way, this is coming in a future update" during the Mario Maker for 3DS part. (Slopes would be much appreciated.) This game at least feels like a 3DS counterpart. Also, like how SMM on Wii U made great use of the Gamepad, it looks like the 3DS version does Streetpass right. I welcome this game, but I already have the Wii U version and no way I'm getting it again.

I might get the 8-bit Link amiibo, since it'll go well with my 8-bit Mario amiibo. Don't care about the rest. I'm not made of money.
I thought it was interesting that they are bringing Mario Maker and Wooly World to 3DS. Pikmin didn't look too bad, but I don't know whether it would be enough to shoulder the weight of a full game, it looks more like a downloadable puzzle-platformer.

I'm of course excited for the Hyrule Warriors DLC. I like the idea of the Sand Rod, and Toon Zelda looks cool even though her lips in the special attack cut-in graphic look a bit... Clownish? I remember her more like her Wind Waker look where I don't think she has very defined lips.
Oh yeah. Also kinda interested in the OoT Link Amiibo. I'm not even super interested in Amiibo either, but I'm a sucker for OoT/MM Link merch. Plus, if it gives you OoT tunic and/or voice in Breath of the Wild or OoT Link as a partner (doubt the former) that's all the more compelling for me.
I gave Toon Zelda a try. I love her so much. She's probably my favorite DLC character so far. I wish I had a reason to use DLC characters on Wii U beyond just trying them out once they're released though. I turn the game on, struggle to finally get the game to install the DLC, play for about 15 minutes and then leave it to collect dust again until the next DLC is out. Just a dumb set of challenges with unlockable reskins from the 3DS DLCs should be more than enough.
I'm hoping a year or two after the release of the NX that we see a full sequel to the game. The DLC is great and all, but a new full version can give the dlc characters more defined roles.

If they did do a sequel, I just hope they spice up the old content instead of straight up porting it over. In other Warriors games they tweak movesets of characters up a little or give them new weapons, and make redesigned versions of previous maps so they aren't the same anymore.
capcom released a puzzles and dragons game with a street fighter motif. it's not bad but my only complaint is that i can only play for like ten minutes before i run out of "stamina". but i guess we're all used to those shitty money-grabbing tactics of mobile games. smh
Interplay is selling off various (probably all) of its IPs. The only one I'm familiar with is Earthworm Jim, but it seems like a nice chance for original creators to get back their creations. Or just for someone to do something neat with them.
