Are you sure that's not just because it was your grandma trying to get you a game? I mean, I know it's cliche, but older people are generally the ones who have a harder time keeping up with all these similarly-named things.
And I don't think the companies are really interested in trying to accommodate for people outside their target demographics, if that makes sense.

Also, that's why it's a good idea to send out a birthday list.
Okay guys help me with this:

Is a Wii with a component cable better than or equal to the Wii Mode on the Wii U?

Part of it depends on what Wii you have (with or without GCN support), because apparently the later ones without GCN support (not the Minis though) have improved component output.

That aside, I remember finding someone like a year ago or something who ran video test software thru GCN component, early Wii component, later Wii component, and Wii Mode on WiiU; it was found that WiiU Wii Mode was the worst of the bunch, then early Wii, followed by later Wii, and finally Gamecube being the best. If I can track it down again I'd love to share it.

New Kingdom of Loot showcase. Sprites still kickin' ass. I made some suggestions on what kind of sounds they could add next on the video itself.
b-but that's HARDLY retro. Your favorite Alibaba Seiken Adventure Densetsu Saga Gaiden 3 SNES games don't even look like that. Retro would be like no more than 256 colors on screen with minimal animations.

That's just a return to form with beautiful animation cycles. The company should be warning players about majestic pixelated beauty, not their idea of "retro" unless they're referring to the cookie-cutter cheese-and-crackers basic Zelda gameplay

I've got an original Wii model... White with GameCube support. Got it very shortly after launch.
I have a lot of GCN games, so I should probably just get component cables anyway. I would stick with my CRT television but it buzzes while it's on and that's just not awesome x.x;
Strong chiptune music, huh?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the music in that video is anything BUT chiptune.

You don't need that for retro actually.  You need palette limitations on individual sprites and tiles to pull off a 16-bit or 8-bit look, but you don't need to follow the colors per screen/scanline limitations.  Some things are best left in the past.  Otherwise, with that logic, if you wanted to make a retro 3D platformer, you'd need to incorporate a shitty camera to really be brought back to the past, lol. Also, even many old 8-bit games had smooth animations, so that's never a requirement, and at this point would just be laziness.

As for the music, it sounds sorta SNES in quality. Chiptune doesn't automatically have to default to 8-bit, NES, GBC, Master System, WonderSwan or GameGear sound, you know? I hear soundfonted SNES and Genesis style music all the time, and that works well.
I just finished the best session of Mario Party 4 ever with my parents.

I won. But it was actually pretty close between me and my mom.
We were playing on Toad's Midway Madness. I had the bad luck to get stuck in the loop at the beginning after getting one star. My mom got two stars in a row, can you believe that? She got one star, and then the next star ended up being like five spaces away from her. She got that one too.
The real hilarity was in the minigames, though. Our last minigame was Dungeon Duo, my personal favorite. If I was with the computer, I would've had it in the bag. But I was with my dad. It was the funniest thing though. We were going over the controls. My parents were okay with the first page. Then I pressed R and revealed a second page of controls, and they both groaned in unison.
Let me tell you, it was incredibly frustrating watching both my parents struggle. It was especially frustrating watching my dad keep pressing the wrong button. You wanna know how long it took us to finish the minigame? Almost 4 minutes. My parents both had a hard time getting on the rotating platforms. And mine was standing completely still for Dad, and he kept missing! It's amazing how hard it was for them to grasp the concept of jumping while pushing the control stick forward.
It got really intense towards the end. I finally got Dad over to the other side and we were at the pipes. I had to lead dad to the right pipe since he didn't pay attention to which one I was in. That was fine enough. Then came the balloon part.
Oh. My. Gosh. You will not believe what happened.
We were well ahead of Mom and the computer. They were still at the rotating platforms. I kept alternating the L and R buttons to inflate the balloon. My dad? He was practically pressing them at the same time. I tried correcting him, telling him to press them one at a time. He claimed he was, but it still looked like he was pressing them at the same time. So I just kept doing what I was doing and Dad was doing what he was doing. My mom and the computer finally made it to the balloon and they started pumping it up.
Their balloon filled up much faster than ours.
Yes.
They beat us.
I threw my dad such a fierce glare and my mom was just laughing her head off at the whole thing.
Well, it didn't really matter anyways, because Mom was still in first place.

But yeah, I ended up winning because I got the Minigame Star and the Coin Star. My mom got the Happening Star, so it came down to who had the most coins.

It was really, really a ton of fun, despite the frustrations. I think my parents had a great time too.
man, youre parents play video games with you? if only my parents were like that ;__________;
It required a lot of begging. And timing. Both of my parents work at specific times. My dad's times vary because he writes articles for the sports section of our newspaper, so it all depends on what games are going on. My mom always works at the same time, but it's very early in the morning, so she has to go to bed early. So I had to accommodate for both of them. It was tough, but I managed.

Though my mom's kinda used to "playing" games with me. Sometimes I force ask her to watch me play games. Problem is, the games I played required a lot of reading. Too much reading makes her sleepy, and she's a slow reader. So there were so many times I was just like trying to nudge her awake and then I end up annoying her because it seemed like she was sleeping but she actually wasn't? This happens when watching TV too.
I'm so grateful that she's willing to humor me. Though she says she's not humoring me, because she likes spending time with me. She just doesn't always want it to be with vidya james.

...I wish I recorded the session because I bet it would've been very entertaining for people to watch. But my dad said he didn't want to go viral. Pfft.
My parents barely know how to use a cell phone.
I think the only game I've actually seen my dad play is Tetris. He just doesn't want to play anything, which is fine. I offer him the chance every now and then in case he changes his mind, especially because he once watched Pacific Rim 6 consecutive times in a row.
I remember the first time I played videogames with my parents. We played MarioKart 64 and I let my dad win. I still haven't lived it down.

However, my parents have started playing a lot of Wii Sports Resort lately; my mom's favorite sport is archery (my dad'll play it too as well) Though, apparently last time I talked to them my mom was extremely excited to tell me that they played the skydiving event and that my dad thoroughly beat my mom's ass in it. She even told me the mechanics behind it and how he managed to beat her in it. I was impressed as heck.

Good job, Dad, who usually doesn't even bother trying to play videogames and just opts to watch. The only problem tho is that my parents are extremely tech illiterate and won't play the Wii unless I come over and turn it on for them for some odd reason.

??? Big Grin ???
