I wonder how long the Wii U will be supported for in the NX lifetime? I want 4 to be on Wii U just cause I hardly have any damn games for the thing

My favorites have to be the Sentai/Power Ranger and Voxel costumes. But that cheerleader one is a bit too much don't you think?

About this NX thing. Isn't it a bit too early to announce a new console? All three aren't even that old yet, with the PS4 & XB1 almost two years.

Before the 360/PS3/Wii generation (and arguably before the PS2 generation) console generations were basically only 5 years long. If anything, this is a return to form as last gen was excessively long.

Console manufacturers start working on the next console almost immediately after the current one begins being mass produced, but obviously they don't say anything about it until it's in a state where it's ready to show off or at least talk about.
The Wii U was largely a flop so of course Nintendo announced that they're working on a new project. They haven't shown anything about it yet but it's no secret that there's a new console in the works, nor should there be. Remember how long "The Revolution" was a thing before the Wii was actually shown off? We knew about that for years, just not what it would entail. The Ultra 64 and even the Dolphin were the same way.

NX is no different.

Bwuh ... I don't want to buy another game console already guuuuuuys. I've barely gotten any use out of my Wii U as it is.

Out of all the Nintendo consoles I've owned over the years, including all the handhelds, the Wii U seems like my worst investment.

You're getting the wrong games then. I'm really glad I got my Wii U.

I've been getting a lot more mileage out of my Wii U than my Wii. Then again, I'm more heavily invested in downloadable games this time around, too. I even just got a bigger harddrive because I want to get even more digital stuff as time goes on.

I feel like the NX is still a far ways off, and there are still a lot of awesome games I'm looking forward to for the Wii U.

The Wii U is such a great console. It just took a bit for it to take off. But all consoles this generation are taking a bit to take off.

The Wii was great too, you just needed the right games. People only saw the shovelware and didn't dig deep enough to find all the amazing games on it.

The 3D Boxy one resembled 3D Dot Game Heroes more than it does Minecraft, but I assure you the fans of MC won't make that distinction and just call it Minecraft. Heh.

I'm really curious what direction Nintendo's going to take their next console. I don't really think the NX is a new console (Nintendo Xperience for Android and iOS =)) but the Wii U certainly feels behind the competition and most modern developers laugh when asked about their support for Nintendo. Like - most people want something that'll play the best and newest (which...frankly, if they're developing games still for PS3, there's absolutely no reason the Wii U can't handle them, besides the devkit or the lack of interest of developing software compatible with the GamePad) and Nintendo doesn't really offer that - they offer interesting experiences that greatly differ from what you'd find on other consoles [okay, there's LittleBigPlanet for the PS line, but Mario Maker is just SO approachable in comparison]

It'd be really interesting to see if Nintendo pulls out all the stops and actually makes a gargantuan $600 sex machine of a console this time around instead of the typical Nintendo practice.

Probably gonna happen anyway, lol. I like the idea of them referencing other franchises with outfits, but the quewtion is, which ones will be. Since every outfit is to have some special of some kind it also brings into question the "what?"

The Wii U feels more empty than previous Nintendo efforts partially because of less third-party content, partially because their games have been (while more polished) lacking the same amount of unique content, and partially because PC gaming is becoming much more the norm than in previous generations.

Point A: There isn't much for exclusive third-party content. There's some Nindie stuff, but most of them are in the same vein as the shovelware on the Wii. Sure, you've got Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, and gems you really need to look for, like Armillo, but comparing that to what the GCN and the Wii had... And that's not even approaching the fact that non-exclusive third-parties are nearly non-existent on the device. It's really up to Nintendo to hold the roof, here. Which, I'll be honest, that's what I paid for. I got a Wii U for Mario and Zelda and Kirby, it would just be nice to have some Pac-Man and Final Fantasy to fill in the empty months.

Point B: Nintendo's games are usually top-notch, and the polish their Wii U offerings have is incredible. But that polish comes with a penance. Super Smash Bros.' single-player game took a serious nosedive, Mario Kart 8 lacks all but the barest incarnations of Battle mode, and the Mario spin-offs are MIA (only one Mario Party and Mario Tennis isn't even out yet. There were three Parties on GCN and at least four sports games...), there is no big-screen Metroid. Of course, the missing games have been somewhat replaced... but their absence is still felt. There's also the fact that Nintendo is consistently proving that they're utterly out of touch with what gamers who play online multiplayer are looking for, though it seems like Splatoon might help turn all of that around.

Point C: Pretty much every third-party has moved some aspect of their development to the PC, and specifically to Steam. The PlayStation and the Xbox are both suffering from this just as much as Nintendo is. The same game with a much greater potential for quality (erm, I mean that a game isn't locked to specific display methods. The user is limited by their PC, not by their console) and usually for less... PC gaming is picking up for these reasons, and the third-parties know it. Sonic is on PC, Street Fighter is on PC, Mortal Kombat is on PC. It's becoming increasingly important for console manufacturers to bolster their unique intellectual properties. Nintendo is actually solid on this point, but because more developers are building exclusively for the PC, it makes the Wii U library appear lacking.

Anyway, that's just why the Wii U has seemed to have such a small number of games when compared to other Nintendo consoles. The whole market is shifting, and there isn't a whole lot Nintendo can do about it. Personally, the Wii U has the potential to be Nintendo's greatest console, but for whatever reason they make every move in the opposite direction. They had a nice browser which could have been great with some Java support, instead they release an update that actually removes helpful features and allows fewer websites to function properly. They have the hardware needed to run GCN games from .iso (just like the Wii games) but instead of calling up every developer who published for the GCN and redistributing the games, they completely ignore this opportunity. That second part goes for Wii games as well. There's no reason why only fourteen Wii games are available (globally) in the eShop. There's no reason WiiWare is not available in the eShop. They could have put a little more into the virtual console, at least sweet-talked Sega into getting the Genesis VC running again. They didn't do it. The Wii U had the potential to be the all-in-one wet dream Nintendo fans have wanted for decades, but Nintendo, for whatever reason, doesn't want to go there.

I really feel that they announced the NX way too soon. If I'm remembering right, their only reason for namedropping that thing was to reassure consumers that they won't be dropping out of the console market for their new mobile development plans.

Now we have a bunch of folks dismissing the Wii U as a failure (imo, it's far from it), and rushing Nintendo to get the NX out as early as next year... despite this generation's set of consoles still being relatively young (the Wii U, Xbox One, and PS4 are barely even three years old, and the former is one year older than the rest).

Sonic, Street Fighter, and Mortal Kombat have been on computers longer than many think, with the latter two released during the DOS era.

With MS-DOS. There's quite a few games that deserve more love and attention, due to being cult classics and obscure gems.
GOG.com sells some games from that era for decent prices. And unlike Steam, U-Play, and Origin, there's none of that DRM bullshit.

Not only that. Indie games were everywhere on Mac, Amiga, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, and DOS. So yeah, not really a new thing.
Team 17, best known for Worms, is one of the oldest Independent game developers around and still going strong.


Though I agree we need more on the Eshop and third-party games. Then again. Everyone moved away from Nintendo once the Playstation and Saturn came out due to their original and silly censorship policy. Sega had the better Mortal Kombat 1, though.
Now their systems have, of all things, R rated games on the Wii U. Funnily enough, Australia's first R rated game happened to be the Wii U port of Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge. We haven't had much problems with censorship lately, which is good. MKX is pretty full on with its gore.
Though Hotline Miami 2 has been banned so far due to the infamous rape scene. Absolutely disgusting! No one wants to see that!

Honestly what I love most about the Wii is how convenient it is. You can have all your games in one place if you mod, no need for discs or anything.
That and it can play games from every prior Nintendo console.
