like Guycott said, Shadow would've been a lot better if he stayed in SA2. his death was powerful to me because he was actually cool then, and his backstory made sense, but then they had to add more and bring him back...

I like Blaze a lot, too. she has a personality that female Sonic characters needed, she isn't an annoying ball of energy and she isn't a femme fatale. she's more independent and reserved and I like that in a female character.

I thought I was the only one that read this
best iterations of mecha sonic and mecha knuckles ever.

Even metal overlord isn't as good, and I think he's 1000x better than regular sonic CD stlye mecha sonic.

Back when I first played SA2, I heard a rumor from a friend (I think partially based on a trailer that could actually be unlocked in the game itself) that it was meant to be the last Sonic title. I'm pretty sure it meant the last Sonic ADVENTURE title (which is a lie if you count ports, I really don't though), but for a split second I believed that to be factually true, and I thought that was a pretty cool way to end it.

Naturally I knew it wouldn't end the Sonic franchise as a whole, especially after seeing said trailer for myself a few days later and me smacking my friend upside the head for misinterpreting things, but Shadow should have died with Sonic Adventure 2. Instead, we have not just one, but TWO more hedgehogs, three more if you count whatever the fuck his name was from that 2006 game that was unplayable.

In addition to that, I've kinda gotten tired of those storybook style games like Secret Rings and Sonic and the Black Knight. Granted, I never played either personally, I saw a friend play Secret Rings and it seemed clunky, and as for the Black Knight, can anyone vouche for that? Also Sonic Becomes a Gremlin.. oh wait, Sonic Unleashed... yeah, I heard that game sucked balls because of forcing you into his Werehog stages for collecting shit as a slow, clunky, stretchy mess.

God, I wanna find a hedgehog so I can kill it and eat it... or at least roboticize it. That'd be cool.
Secret Rings is decent at best.
It relies on an rpg-like level up system which makes sonic run faster and handle better as you level up.
Only problem is, until you get him moving fast, the game is almost unbearably slow.
Once he speeds up, there are certain areas where the game genuinely feels fun. But they're short-lived, as the game goes right back to being an annoying mess.
The controls are awful, and there are cheap deaths galore.
At least you get unlimited lives.

I've never played Black Knight, but I've heard it's better than Secret Rings.

As for Unleashed, the 360 version is pretty fun.
While there are definitely waaaaaaaaaaaay too many werehog stages (which are all really long and repetitive, but not exactly bad) the speed stages where you play as sonic are pretty fun. There are some annoying segments, but overall, the game isn't bad. And the music is pretty good too. I especially like the Night Mini Boss music. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8S0xQP0EAk) The part at 1:10 where the violins come in is my favorite part.

As for the Wii/PS2 version, my brother has that and he says it's terrible.

So who's up for drawing some Concept Art?

(Although the restriction of foes from the first 4 games is bullshit. I want some motherfucking GUN up in here)
My entry made SEGA's top picks :>

Tomorrow we get our prizes, new concept art of the first zone, the title (SONIC 4) and another cool bonus

then the weekend following TRAILERRRRR
Why do I get the feeling most people will be submitting concept art of "Mecha Sonic"?

Black Knight is not.

The main problems of Secret Rings were that Sonic's controls began awful, but after you actually gain the Soul Gauge, it begins to be decent, and then after some leveling up, Sonic is a speed demon and has never been faster (that is until Unleashed came). And also Dinosaur Jungle is a fucking awful stage. But those are the only problems of the game.

Story is good, dialogues are great, the characters' personalities and how they interact are spot-on. The game has a great artistic direction as well.

Black Knight...

Graphics are much better, but the artistic direction is a bit weak. The artworks aren't hand-drawn like Secret Rings looked like, but rather something that seemed drawn with Photoshop's pen tool. And looking like digital art is not a great way to try to copycat an old artstyle. Gameplay is TERRIBLE. Although Sonic "begins" with better controls, the levels are nothing but PLAIN SURFACES. It's all about holding forward and stop whenever there are enemies to slash them down. It's not fun at all. Secret Rings actually had level design and platform gimmicks, but Black Knight? Not at all. The fewer new concepts/stage elements that the game brings (like giving rings to townspeople, reflecting light with your sword to shatter crystal walls and... waiting for a boat to bring you from a place to other) are just stupid and boring. Story sucks, it's a short, overly simple and predictable story like most newer Sonic games. Also, in the few 2.5D sections in the game, it controls HORRIBLE.
The PS2 version of Unleashed is the most terrible gaming experience ever concieved. i have never been so grateful that a game pops a "do you want to continue playing" screen.

PS: Rokkan's entries weren't picked what the fuck http://www.flickr.com/photos/segaamerica...186205789/
That Roller and Bomber are the shyt. Looks like someone with Megaman X on the brain got inspired. Honestly if they can't even pick out good concept they might as well just have asked people who've done good Sonic Artwork before do it. Also Patrick Spaziante didn't make some artwork dammit all.

Confirmed to be the Megaman 9 of Sonic games, as if that wasn't clear enough already.

But the forced nostalgia isn't doing much for me. Modern soundtrack, plz.
Forced nostalgia? I'd much rather have the genesis sounds.

The angel island remix in Brawl was amazing, but have you forgotten how good the music in Sonic 1-3K was? If it still sounds that good, I'm all for twangy chiptunes.
Yeah, but that's all to do with composition, not limitation of chipset. Nostalgia for nostalgia's sake is kinda dumb, IMO.
im cool with this. megaman 9 was the best classic game since 3 imo and i am okay with sonic 4 being the best sonic since 3
