welp, so was Sonic but then they decided to create that fan-character called Shadow and it became extremely embarassing really quickly!
Shadow was a good character until Sega revived him and gave him a convoluted backstory.

Shadow was a cool concept, but ultimately a one-trick pony. PLENTY of legitimately cool media have had clones or evil versions of characters and have done well. I mean, the guy had jet boots for christ's sake! How could you fuck up jet boots?
But yeah, Shadow could have gone down in gaming history as a fun one-shot character who went down dramatically and in a noble way. I mean, he fell into the earth's atmosphere and burned up on re-entry for christ's sake! How could you fuck up falling into the earth's atmosphere and burning up on re-entry?
... Oh wait, bring him back to life. Okay.
Silver shoulda been one shot too since he's from a dystopian future that doesn't exist anymore.
You know they kinda undid everything in that game therefor Silver should either (A. Not exist anymore. or (B. Have no reason to go into the past again.
I kinda hate characters from an alternate universe/ from the future... You seriously get fucked up storylines when you do that.
Silver's the final nail in the coffin that proves that Sega officially smothered anyone with half a brain that's not shoved all the way up their ass. I mean, there was enough trouble getting people to appreciate Shadow after bringing him back, WHO THE FUCK thought it was a good idea to include another hedgehog into the mix? Let alone from an alternate universe?

Blaze I can deal with, she's not that bad. Her origins seem weird, but her design is fun. And she wears pants!.. I think.
Eh I don't see what the big deal with Blaze is. She's a cat with fire powers.
She's essentially female sonic.
She runs just as fast, her fire powers allow her to do that tornado spin jump thing that works like sonic's spines, she can use the fire as a jet engine to spindash, and she can also use her jet powers to float.
Not to mention that she can use the power of the chaossol emeralds and become super blaze, just like sonic does.
She's basically her dimension's sonic.
Eh... I guess. Still plenty of female Sonic characters I like better than her. But that's just me.

Blaze is the only character that's not passive and useless (Even when Amy is made playable, she's essentially 'hard mode' because her skills are so limited compared to everyone else), or isn't rendered pointless by a male character who does everything the same but better (Rouge).
In Rush, how Sonic and Blaze completed stages was noticibly different without resorting to Flying/Wall Climbing hax. Which IMO makes her one of the best recent Sonic Friends.
Shadow is cool on Sonic Adventure 2, but it was a stupid concept to begin with. The concept of Shadow was to make an edgier, anti-hero Sonic.
The flaw of this concept is that Sonic WAS supposed to be an edgy anti-hero already to begin with. That's why Sonic was popular around the americas, because he was cool, edgy, and had a somewhat selfish attitude (waiting unpatiently for the player to react, and even saying "I'm outta here" and getting out of the stage, giving you a Game Over if you idle for too long in Sonic CD). Doing an edgier character just turns the spotlight down to Sonic and up to the new character.
Also that reminds me, I have been re-playing Sonic the Figthers and goddamn.
It's amazing how much personality they gave to each character in that game. I don't care if Bark is based on a Dynamite Dux character, he's fucking awesome and I want him on other games, instead of having Big instead. I also want Fang in other games so hard, he's such a cool character, and I love that spring tail of his. This game is also the most badass appearance of Metal Sonic ever, slashing with wireframe claws.
they need to put rocket metal sonic in another game
I'd appreciate a robot that isn't a clone of the cast. Also, we need a game with Mecha Sonic. That Archie comic Mecha Madness was awesome. Fucking lasers for Sonic and Magnetic knuckles for Knuckles. I know they can't do Archie stuff since it's not cannon but honestly the stories and Adaptions of the Archie Sonic Universe is a lot more believable, since it gives everyone growth and perspective.
