Man I really hate Sonic Platformers. I miss multiple character stories like from Sonic Adventure.

I mean, the best Knuckles' moments are from Sonic Adventure.

I really hope this is a joke post because I don't think it's possible to for me to hate this any more strongly

Rather than keep switching styles or transplanting the characters into new settings, they should focus on making a game that gives you that same childish warm fuzzy GLEE that the old games did. And for that they need to be simple and enjoyable. You have a clear goal, you have a clear method, you go and save the world. That's it.

It was a formula that worked and it never needed to be fucked with. Adding new characters or new gimmicks or new settings is just polishing a turd, basically.

okay! :9

I think what they need to do is to make the levels and the game feel like the old games, but with the addition of the new graphics technology to make it look as amazing compared to other games of nowadays as it was back then. Sonic's world was surreal, a tad inspired by art (see Sonic 1's Special Stage, Knuckles' Chaotix's Botanic Base) and very colorful. Not to mention level design, that should incentivate exploration and to know when to run fast and when to be careful. Sonic 3 and Sonic CD's level designs are the best. Sonic 3 for having more than just one ambient on a single zone or act, combined with an explorative level design that contributes to that feel, and Sonic CD for its creative and different level designs than the other games that shaped the whole level. You can tell which level it is in Sonic CD by just saying how the level design is like, and not specifying any platform gimmick element or anything. (like Chemical Plant's tubes, Angel Island's vines and waterfall disappearing platforms, etc).

THEN after that and the gameplay we should worry about characters.
i need to repost this to set the thread back in the right direction.

: D

Sorry Metaru, but doing my quick input in Knuckles, till Adventure 2 he wasn't a muscle-bounded stupid guy, he was quite clever actually and thoughtful, not to mention a loner. He was the Protoman of Sonic the Hedgehog, The Lancer of the series, and I hope this side of him is brought back, instead of being all stupid and that relies on strength only. Tails is even worse, but I won't go in details with that.

Plus Knuckles is REALLY powerful. He can destransform Super Sonic into Sonic by punching in Sonic 3 & Knuckles TWICE. (at Lava Reef, if you are Super Sonic, when Knuckles punches a boulder towards you, you are taken out of the Super state), that was badass.

ANYWAY LET'S TALK ABOUT MORE INTERESTING THINGS IN THIS TOPIC YES?
let's talk about tails' transformation
yes, he's supposed to be eight, but how is it that as soon as he could talk he ended up being annoying and not as smart
Tails should be orange again.

And cute again because that's why he is my favourite character (not that Sonic, Metal Sonic and Dr.Robotnik aren't very close second places)

this is hella cute and charismatic

this is not

Kiddy and young characters does not have to absolutely mean that they should be annoying, clueless and without any character complexity. I also really hate how Tails was "downgraded" from Sonic's best friend to someone like a distant friend. Chip looked like Sonic's lover in Unleashed compared to Tails. It is true that according to canon, he is more independent to Sonic (his whole quest in Sonic Adventure was about being less reliable and attached to Sonic and more able of doing things of his own) but goddamn. He only exists in Sonic's games nowadays to have technological/informatic convenience (building ships, knowing how a certain robot or gimmick works) and to be annoying. That's it. I don't think that Tails is that much of a genius too, I frankly think he should know how to pilot airplaines and fix the Tornado and lesser machinery and that's it. His main role should still be of Sonic's loyal sidekick and best friend

btw I know that Tails' fur in classic games wasn't really orange but a tad yellow-ish, in fact my first picture had the same skin color as the second picture. but I really like Tails with a very orange fur, kind of like in Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast (the original one, not Sonic Adventure DX)
I agree with everything except making him look like he used to. I prefer the 3D Generation character designs over the genesis-era ones.
But everything else needs to change.

I cannot quote this more enough. Very Sad he used to be my favorite character but nowadays he's just a boring technobabble spew to rival Eggman for no reason other than they needed a character to parallel him...
They should make Tails voiced by the kid from Chowder, and they should make him retarded like Chowder is. Chowder.
No.
Do they really even need to talk? I mean its fine if they do if they don't spew out retarded crap EVERY time you do a move. Maybe have them grunt and stuff when they jump or gets hurt sort of like Mario, but other than that restrict the talking to cutscenes where you don't have to hear it all the time.
Not going to lie, Sonic Adventure's Tails Levels were fucking gear. Even better than the Sonic Stages.

Tails and Omega were awesome in Sonic Adventure. While Knuckles was fun as all hell in Sonic Adventure 2. Why do people not like these games =o
I can honestly tell you that I don't remember a single moment of tails' story from SA1 other than the final robotnik fight in station square.

Sonic had the best jump and spindash sound effect (pre-lightspeed spindash sound effect, of course) in SA1, though.

Fix'd

Omega wasn't around until Heroes came out.

Going back to what Shadowth said, far as I am concerned almost every character talks when they do something in almost every game, not just in the Sonic games. hell even Mario has said something when he was fighting Bowser in 64 but the only reason why he got away with it was because he doesn't do it every time in every game. Not like in any of the Sonic games these days or a majority of the fighting games out there. It's not anything too new and I highly doubt it's going away any time soon, As much as I hate the fact any developer would do that.
