I was going to do a July activity, but I didn't get any interesting ideas. Please feel free to suggest them, so I can make a thread for it c:

Has there been a Gameboy graphics revamp thread before?
That would be pretty neat.

I thought of something just like that (except it'd be for an NES game such as Kirby's Adventure, etc.), but it's still 8-bit graphics and we just dealt with those.
Sooooooo, sorry if this has already been suggested (or perhaps is already being implemented?) for the new site's search function but I think it would be amazingly helpful to add a "Genre" field to Game entries. I realize it might take a bit of effort to add them all in for every game on the site, but maybe you could find a way to get the community to help out with that? I just think it'd be really helpful if you were looking not for a specific character or object but for examples of a type of sprite specific to a certain genre, like looking up in-battle sprites from RPGs, or a jump animation from a platformer, or bosses from shmups. Though I totally understand if you can't, especially if it would be impossible given the structure so far or something like that, just felt I'd share!
If I recall correctly, I think we're going to be adding tags to sheets to make them more easily searchable.
Sadly not on launch. It was an idea I had about users submitting tags for sheets and us initially placing them, but we can add them when uploading. It's only an idea at this stage.
An idea that would require adding information to over 45 thousand sheets. Even if we only added one tag each, that would still be an immense undertaking. You also have to consider the 3,500 games that would also likely need tags if we were going to go this route.

This isn't to say that it won't happen - not by a long shot. It would just push the launch back even farther for very little noticeable gain. It is likely to be considered in the future if we can get a big enough team of volunteers to handle editing all of the existing sheets though.
Don't underestimate the power of the force community.
Just give us the option to tag things independently of the upgrade. That way we can do it at our own rate when we get time.

I was thinking we could be a bit more specific based on each sheet. For example, take Gunyolk from Mario RPG. If you search his name he'll pop up, if you search Mario RPG he'll pop up, but we could tag it with things like "Slime, Tank, Boss, Robot" for people who may be thinking "I want to sprite a tank. Let's see what some examples of tanks are out there."
But how many tags would there be? Only the most relevant ones? Because there could end up being a lot of most relevant ones for some sheets. Tongue
Maybe. Especially when we get into certain styles. I think it'd be a nice payoff for our users though.
I think it would be nice in the end too. My point was just to say that we couldn't have everything tagged pre-launch, not that we wouldn't do it at all.
Oh, there's no way we could do that. It would have to be a constantly going project.
Someone briefly mentioned in another topic how they think it's a little harsh to warn people breaking a rule on their first post doing something such as requesting, meaning they obviously didn't read the rules. That made me wonder if there would be a way to sort of force users to go through the rules upon registration. I don't recall the name, but one other forum I once went to required new users to pass a short quiz regarding the rules before they could post. While that may not be necessary, would it be possible to redirect new users right to the rules?
Can probably send a PM on registration?
