I second (third?) (fourth?) the 20 posts along with one month suggestion.

I was actually going to bring this up myself.
I'm writing up a new rules thread at the moment regarding it...

I'm not in the Ripping section at all, but I'm just going to assume people ask for shit there outside of the section, too.

This is, unfortunately, what I was worried about as there is very little to prevent this outside of manually deleting every request thread that pops up outside of the Requests forum. While this would certainly work, it comes with a rather large manpower requirement so it would take some staff dedication.
I'm up for it.

I say in each of the [commonly requested-in] sections we leave a stickied thread titled DO NOT REQUEST HERE and also make sure it's in the rules of said forums as well (I'm putting it in the GameDev rules)

Then we operate under the assumption that this thread has been read and the warning has been seen.

Then it's just a matter of issuing warnings on sight, as far as members with sub-20 posts go.
I don't think it would be limited to members with less than 20 posts at that point. Requests should only be made in the proper forum regardless of who you are, how many posts you've had, or how long you've been here. But yes, that's the idea I was thinking of more or less - assume people read things (which they don't) and then act as if they have. Of course, this should all be run by Dazz first but once we have a set of concrete guidelines, I'll update the member promotion requirements and we can start trying to rid the forums of this nonsense.
Go for it! Smile
So, just to confirm then, the new rules are as follows:

1. Requests must be made in the requests forum. All other request threads will be deleted on sight and the poster warned.
2. Request forum access will now require 20 posts and 1 month registered.

I'll go set it up now and I suppose I should add the new requirements to the rules page as well.
I think this will make TSR a better place... I'm glad some action has finally been taken into this issue, and I'm looking forward to seeing the result! Smile
This is great news. I'd love to see the look on people's faces when they find out they can't request after 20 (spam) posts because they have only been members for about an hour Big Grin
Hi, I was just thinking. I know how You guys don't like necroposts. So hows this idea?

When a thread is made, it will stay open for let's say 30 days after the last post. Then it will automatically close so no one can post in it except Admins. This would prevent necroposts completely. And if there's a thread that shouldn't close ever, there would be an option to remove the time limit that only Admins can set.
And maybe have the thread creator be able to open there thread, unless an Admin hard locks it.

Just something I thought up.Tongue
Except that kinda ruins things.

If a member can unlock a thread they can lock it and any other thread too, there is really no way of specifying what members can do what to what threads.

Again, taking care of necroposting isn't that big of a deal anyway.

Not even if some kind of variable or something it set so that if the user is the same as the thread creator it can be unlocked? And there doesn't have to be a lock option, unless there's no way to separate the two? Blank Either way it was just a suggestion. Smile
No, the closest thing would be for a whole section but I'm not even sure thats possible on MyBB because back when we had sprite mods they could lock/unlock any thread of the whole forum so yeah, there is no way to do that.

OK, just thought I would put that out there.Smile
What if we could submit themes?
Can't there be a topic cutoff date?

Like, say, if a topic is 2 weeks old it's automatically closed unless the thread starter says otherwise. I think this could cut down on the rampant necroposting that's been going on recently.
