7-Zip also works for some games
MPowerplayer is a very good mobile emulator

Most of games are in JAR format, so you can open it with WinRAR, 7Zip, Power Archive and many other compressing programs. But sometimes the image aren't in PNG, but instead in a file without extension, all together. In that case, you'll need a hex editor to look up to the png headers and get them one by one, manually.

Hm, I gues I'll just outright ask this.
How do I rip from FF4: The After Years?
I love the game and want to produce a short cominc based on it, but the sheets on the site are incomplete and the site is lacking some vitals. (Such as the overworlds of The Creator)
I figured rather than make a request, just to get them myself, but as of yet I have no idea how.
How do you texture rip from 3d games? I want to rip from spirit tracks.
I have no idea how to rip from DS, but I think tahaxan might do it, but I don't know how to use it.
For PC games usually you can find edition tools a the own publisher's site or at the gaming community, and they usually helps you to extract the graphics for edition, so it's easier. There's a very useful wiki here
Wii and GC, I've been told the emulator Dolphin have built-in tools. Never tried, my driver can't read wii's original discs Sad
PS1 you can try first with PSicture and if it don't work you can use PSX-VRAM
Now for PSP I use two programs. mesh2rdm and GitMO, both can be found here
So anyone know a good msx emulator for ripping? It has such wonderful games that deserve ripping.
What you have posted here is very helpful, thanks! I was wondering if there was some way to ensure that you have ripped every sprite of a particular character in a game. I have been taking LOTS of screenshots and am pretty certain that I haven't missed anything on my sheets, but I am worried that there are a few sprites that I may have missed. I want to be able to get the sprites without having to play through every single part of the game. This is stopping me from posting several sheets. Any help is greatly appreciated, and if what I have asked for is impossible, don't be afraid to tell me!
Hey folks, another question for you. Has anyone ripped from touhouvania? (I forget the actual name but everyone seems to call it that.)
If not, how does one rip from it? I'd like to give it a shot, as it's an awesome game with awesome graphics.

Does anybody knows a method/graphic program to delete these background colours?

I don't think there is one. Usually for something like that, you turn off the background layer in the emulator to make it easier to get the sprites. Some emulators don't support that though so if that's the case you'll have to get rid of the background by hand. That or you could maybe extract the sprites straight from the ROM with a tile viewing program or something.
Normally, I reduce the colour depth to 8-Bit and delete the colours with a pipette straight from the palette (Paint Shop Pro 5).

But this method takes his time. Additionally, this sheet has over 500 colours (I had to split the parts -> very annoying).

This is no problem, but want the alpha transparency of the animation. Furthermore, the developers resized some parts of the animation, this is impossible to arrange.

Eventually, I did it with the traditional method:

But hell, it's rather time consuming.

Yeah sometimes things like that are time consuming. Even if you can't get the alpha transparency its still a pretty good rip. Sometimes there's really no possible way to rip something perfectly.

What I always do if tahaxan dosen't seem to work is I use No$GBA to get to wherever I need to be to see what I need to see, then I take a snapshot (As in the savestate version, not print screen) and open said snapshot up in tile molester and use some other program to get the pallets.
Sorry im new here so .... "Roms are illegal" but then how do you rip sprites?
