Turns out his accepted pack was the Demoman one.

Huge update out today, turned TF2 into a shitty clusterfuck.
You mean it wasn't one already?

I was kinda hoping for Buck's Heavy pack, though. Oh well.

I LOL'd.
Even during the holidays Valve is still greedy.
OH VALVE THESE FESTIVE CRATES LOOK AWESOME SO HOW ARE WE GOING TO OPEN THEM????

"With these festive keys, of course!"

glad I didn't get a festive crate !!!
If you got one, you could always just trade them away, right?

if you had them pre-update, people gave away vintage hats for them, thinking Valve would be generous with the boxes for Christmas.

Now? They have some good stuff in them and I'm sure you can get a good trade for them, but

well, tbh it kinda sucks that this is what TF2 degraded to.
I noticed a disturbing trend.

In the update, there is the Buffalo Steak Sandvich. Heavy eats it and gets a speedboost for 15 seconds (and a crit-a-cola effect, too). According to the wiki, if you use this new Steak together with the GRU, you go slightly faster than Scout.

TF2 Vanilla: Scout is fastest
TF2 Christmas 2009: Soldier and Demoman can now outrun Scout
TF2 Christmas 2010: Now HEAVY can outrun Scout
TF2 Christmas 201X: Scout is now slowest class

Obviously, this doesn't count BONK!, but still, BONK! makes you unable to attack, whereas these other items actually increase the particular class's strength with crits/mini-crits.
isnt the scout the class with the highest top speed/acceleration of the whole rooster?

i also heard he can actually uhm, mantain that top speed in comparision to other classes that can outrun it for short amounts of time.
I was mostly kidding, but even then, these boosts in speed greatly changed the Scout strategy. No longer can Scouts always rely on their superior speed to escape those classes, since they might be able to catch him more easily than they could before. Before the Eyelander and the Equalizer, running away from Demos and Soldiers was much easier, but afterwords, I don't know how many times I fell to those two melee weapons.

Eh, then again, I'm not all that good at the game.
You don't run from an equalizer soldier due to him being in such low hp. 1 scattergun shot should kill him. As for demo, you dodge lazily to the left or right and dodge his sword/axe.
hats turned TF2 into complete shit

I went there

you're right but when was the last time you even played tf2

your steam says you have 116 games but no hours the past two weeks

with only 5.8 hours of the game played
I can't really say that hats themselves ruined TF2.

Rather, I think its the design philosophy that was behind the hats, and then fostered by the community's general acceptance of the hats, that really led to this situation.

Hats are just the biggest symptom of the underlying problem.
