what forum is this
Looked like Facepunch to me.
wtf is "polycount," please explain this to me.

are these real items that are actually in the game? that have their own functions and shit, almost like an entire 'nother update?
Polycount is one of the most known modeling sites in the world, it houses modelers, people who model models. And they're one of the most known, or at least well known. And they exist for over several years. I do remember that they also housed some old Unreal Tournament models and stuff, and old Half-Life models. And stuff. And they're well known. For models and modeling.

Oh, and Valve had several blog entries for it.

And this topic itself already talked about the Polycount pack. Several times.

Polycount is a forum that models stuff. (look at Gary's post)

The actual contest is a modeling contest. Someone has to choose a class to do and has to make 3 models of either all weapons, or 2 weapons and a hat. The winners of this contest get their items implemented into the game. SO it's going to be a big update, with 5 classes in 1 pack.

Now I'm not really expecting a DRASTIC change in overall gameplay from this update, just a simple new pack of more stuff to fill your backpack.

You say this like I actually read the TF2 topic religiously.

(I don't because I can't even run the fucking game at a comfortably-playable FPS)
valve does accepts submissions from users, and they have already added a bunch of stuff from them.

and the scout gets a new bat.

it's a fukken fish

I wish I had the modeling abilities to enter that

I would have made the Medic a flyboy

because the Red Baron was german

and then give him a toy model airplane (with a ton of blood on it) as a melee omg
Most of the Polycount winners suck.
You know, if we all taught ourself modeling and crap, we could make a pack ourselves. We just pick a theme, and we get designing for every character. Every weapon gets alt models, every class gets a new hat (or two), and every class gets a unique misc item.

Then again, knowing you guys, this will never lift off.
Look at it this way:

Valve pretty much confirmed that even though not everyone won this, there's still a good 70+ items that exceed their expectations and may still be used one way or another in future updates

they better fucking give us more backpack space
Then suddenly, a dumb map/art contest thing.
i'm asuing meet the pyro would be relased on he polycount update

I thought Meet the Medic was going to be released next?

Anyway, I'd really like to see a level with a jungle environment. Wonder if anyone will try to make a theme like that for the contest level.
