Then again, most of this was asinine.

that's because you're like
the only person in the world who gives a shit about donkey kong

not even nintendo does
Word. I don't know why Nintendo decided to release Epic Yarn and DKCR in the same period for America, Epic Yarn far outshines in terms of co-op awesomeness.

ANYWAY - SPECULATION

I want crossover stages that mix old Zones/Areas with new ones.

Ice Cap x Sweet Mountain, where you snowboard down a mountain of ice cream. Fuck. Yes.

Yes. Yes. Yes. This. FTW.

While I haven't played DKCR yet, me and my cousin had more fun and laughs with KEY than we ever thought we would. When I get back home we're gonna play it more.

We have a blast whatever we do, but still. One of the funnest games ever.
Um Mighty Jetters, they're just messing with me.

I mean you can't say what game is better if you've never played it. Most people agree DKCR is a far superior game.
I'm not messing with you; I honestly think that DKCR was fine, but not outstanding. And that Nintendo made a poor decision in releasing a game with a similar sale hook (the co-op) at a similar time that outshines it.

Just because it's not your opinion doesn't mean it's wrong, or you're some wise, old sage for thinking different. You're not that much older than I am.

Goddamn this thread is easy to derail. =|
I didn't really see the coop is a gimic with DKCR because the whole series had always had cooperative elements, just less simulataneous. I saw the gimmick being "HEY LOOK! RETURN TO RETRO!"

Which was a good gimmick, don't get me wrong.

Also: There was less discussion about DKCR because the DKC series has never been an ups-and-downs series, it's always been an up series, whereas the Sonic series has been all over the place, so there's more room for discussion. You can't have a discussion with just praise, and Sonic provides enough backlash for lengthier topics.
Woah woah woah... Sorry to continue the derailment but how the hell does Kirby's Epic Yarn outshine Donkey Kong Country Returns?

A game that sold FOUR times as many copies? Better reviewed and a legitimate better gaming experience?

I think this discussion warrants it's own topic. You know, so we don't continue to derail this one.
I'm not saying DKCR wouldn't be good, I would like to play it myself. Just from what I played of KEY was amazing. And I was always a bigger Kirby fan anyway... didn't mean to gang on you Koopaul.

Aaaanyway re-railing the topic...

Did anyone here like Sonic 3D Blast? Just curious because that game was unique in the series, and kinda fun.
Thew music of it was quality, but the gameplay was pretty bad.

Interestingly, all that terrible MIDI ear-rape in Sonic Chronicles? Remixes of 3D Blast tunes.
They're both really great. Although they're both a bit disappointing in some ways - DKCR is amazingly good at level design, but the lack of variety that all DKC games had before it still sort of stings a bit, even though DKCR can make so interesting and different levels even by being almost all about jumping other than anything else. And Kirby's Epic Yarn is easy as hell, has a disappointing final boss and the extra missions are a bore, but the game is incredibly cute and creative, each level offering a different, creative look. I was smiling my way through it. I really can't decide which one I like the most, really!

Quote:inb4 30 pages of unrelased sonic game walls of text from rokkan

SONIC MARS WAS AN UNRELEASED GAME DEVELOPED BY THE SAME TEAM THAT MADE SONIC SPINBALL AND WAS FOR THE SEGA 32X. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO FOLLOW THE EDGY AMERICAN STORYLINE OF THE SONIC THE HEDGEHOG CARTOON A BIT, INCLUDING A LOT OF THE ELEMENTS FROM THE SHOW LIKE SALLY.
But that would have been based on the TV show, not actually on the comics!!! There wasn't in development any official Sonic game that would follow the comics, really!!! And I say thank god because the comic is even more confusing than trying to decipher Shadow the Hedgehog's story without disregarding important plot points about it in Sonic Adventure 2.

EDIT: I just can't play Sonic 3D Blast, I get incredibly bored whenever I reach Rusty Ruins already. Both soundtracks from the Saturn and the Genesis versions kick ass though.

Wait really? I never recognized any of the tunes and I played through Chronicles a few times. And what do you mean terrible MIDI? I loved some of SC's music, especially the battle themes. It was quite fun for me.
The music in Chronicles was fucking dire. The battle themes were the only original-composed tracks in the thing, but had terrible recording quality, and were buttrock to the buttrockkiest degree.

To compare, listen to Chronicle's Shit-tastic Central City theme:

Note its lack of real cohesion. it has a melody, but the instrumental choice is poor, and it jumbles with the tinny percussion. That little attempt at a breakdown makes me shudder every time. It sounds awful.

Now listen to Diamond Dust Zone Act 1 from 3D Blast:

Wow, listen to that instrument range and choice! Especially that beat variation in Act 2. Simply wonderful.

Go and listen to the Chronicles version again, and weep at how they ruined such a great track.
Sonic Chronicles was going to have remixes of old Sonic tunes, but the Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 soundtracks were composed by the band Dreams Come True, which means that to actually use any songs from those games they'd have to pay royalities, so some confusion happened with them and SEGA a few months before releasing the game, that SEGA didn't want to pay royalities to them.
They ended up re-arranging other Sonic tracks anyway by stealing MIDIs from the internet and making rushed compositions because of that.

This sort of thing also happened with Sonic Spinball. Howard Drossin used the jingle from the Sonic 1 title screen to make the title screen song for Sonic Spinball, making this americanized, guitar-like re-arrangement of it. On the day of the release, Yasuhara contacted him saying he had two hours to compose another title screen jingle, because they'd have to pay royalities to actually use that song.

oh god are you a masochist
Okay, I should've said I didn't play 3D Blast much. I played it some with my cousin but we never got to finish. Yes the Diamond Dust Zone song sounds nice, but I didn't mind any of SC's music.

Vipershark and everyone, stop insulting me for liking games because you don't like them. Respect other's opinions, like I respect yours for liking what you like. This thread isn't for being like "HOW COULD YOU LIKE THIS GAME IT'S TERRIBLE WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU".

(Don't gang on me for speaking the truth)
