Yep, we were right
classic has genesis gameplay while modern is behind-the-hog.

Im okay with this though!

Looks pretty. That's the only good thing I'll say.

Unfortunately, it's Unleashed-style, so my interest has more or less plummeted. And Sonic Colours' 2.5D gameplay was terrible. That, and I want Sonic Team to stop using 2.5D as a goddamn crutch to mask their inability to make a good 3D Sonic game.

See, I loved the gameplay in Unleashed and Colours, so this mix of gameplay styles is just wonderful for me.

Sorry you can't enjoy games like I do. =c

Yeah, I know, your mileage may vary, but after Unleashed's bullshit level design (as in, a ton of trial and error gameplay), and Colours' crappy sidescrolling controls (so loose that trying to do platforming has gotten me killed repeatedly), I really have no faith that Sonic Team can actually make the formula work, I'm sorry.
That video was awesome. I know I'm gonna like it like every other game. Smile

Split Reaction Time Attack Deaths were beaten out of me from Sonic Rush (which had them in abundance from a third of the way in to the very end; the sequel had somewhat fewer). Also I don't recall there being many in Unleashed, but I had the Wii version. Dunno about the 360 vers. Colours' double-jump was floaty and momentum-sapping, but levels accomodate that. What did kill me a lot on Colours were the 'Leap of Faith' side scrolling stages in Planet Wisp and Asteroid Coaster.

They're not perfect platformers by any means, but they're fun ones. And pretty easy to go back to and piss about on. I enjoy this school of platformer much more than say, Banjo Kazooie's slower collectathon type.
Damn the sonic cycle has me! Shame that the "modern" sonic gameplay is meant to be a bit crappy (according to Joystiq - http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/18/sonic-...s-preview/ ) and that classic Sonic's jumping apparently feels a bit sticky. If all goes well (big IF) this will be either a good game, or half a good game with modern sonic ruining it.

Y'know, guys, it's not like just because it's Modern Sonic that doesn't mean it can't end up playing like, say, Sonic Adventure 2, a Good Game.
they already showed that it's going to be behind-the-hog/unleashed style 2d sidescrolling for modern sonic

what they need to do for modern sonic is go back to the adventure style gameplay like 2006 tried to do but was never completed
hey there kids, for what it's worth i enjoyed the modern sonic part of the trailer more since i know from experience that sonic team is more than capable of making a few oopsies trying too hard to please fans of classic sonic (hello sonic 4)

but that game was shitty and rushed anyway

they said that they specifically gave them more development time with this one.
There's a lot more gameplay here! And an interview with Iizuka!

It's in Spanish though, but don't worry he doesn't say much else that you can't conclude from the gameplay trailers and looking at keywords at the subtitles yourself. He said that this game will be sort of an homage to Sonic, trying to "sum" it's 20 years in one game, and that other characters that did partake in Sonic's history will appear - like Tails, Knuckles and Shadow.

Gameplay is fucking classic instead of a lazy repaste of Dimps' engine that they use in every 2D Sonic game YEEEEEESSSS

Graphics in the 2D Classic Sonic gameplay look sort of dirty and "choppy" like Sonic Fan Remix to me, but that might be me trying to look into it too hard or something - everything else is awesome.

I'm really happy c: BUT skepticalness re-appeared when I heard that there will apparently be a new villain in this that is the explanation of the encounter of the modern and classic Sonic together and I'm like BITCH NO.
I'd be OKAY if this was Mario or something, in which the new character is only there just to explain why this thing is happening (like Mario Party 3 or Super Mario Galaxy), but this is Sonic we're talking about. This has 90% of chance of being a boring, cliché, stupid giant monster final boss much like most of Sonic's games since Sonic Adventure, UGH.

STILL, even though this makes me skeptical, and believe me, I'm still skeptical about pretty much everything on this game, I am happy that this is looking this good so far c: Can't wait to see how the other levels will look like in 3D!
Except the speed boosting with modern Sonic. God I always hated that. I don't want to press a button to go faster!
"New" villain is Classic Eggman teaming up with modern Eggman, calling it now.

I bet 30 bucks you're wrong. (please bet with me I'm broke and I really need the money and I know you're gonna lose so please please do it)

Also, I can't believe Modern Sonic will have QTEs, what the fuck >:I Didn't they learn that this was fucking retarded? Will the final boss ask me to press a single button 40 times too?!

did i miss something? the closest i saw to qtes in that video you posted were just button pop-ups telling you how to play the game, colors and unleashed had them too
