Actually, if you have ever hacked a more recent Pokemon game, you can trade over Pokemon with different stats to the hacked versions. They auto adjust to the new stats, same goes with abilities since they work on a slot based system. So as long as Gamefreak aren't total idiots about this, it should be fine.
Oh, right! Geez, I dabble in competitive play, how'd I forget about that. Thanks, scf.
I will be getting this. I do think it is good that they mix things up a little.

I am unsure of the grass starter, the fire starter is what I might go for and I feel that we already have too many frog pokemon, so the water starter isn't my cup of tea in this generation.

About the fire type being based on the Chinese zodiac, I think that is false, Charmander is based on a salamander, and there is a myth behind the salamander with the ability to withstand fire in some culture. So I feel that the fox might evolve into a werewolf type deal, since werewolves are mostly viewed as demonic beings. Or it could also become a hell-hound.

The X and Y pokemon look awesome. I don't know which version of the game I will be getting,

Oh, and I didn't see this update on here, so Ill post this now.

I hope maybe that they will reboot/change some of the old evolution methods. Some of them are ridiculous. But I know they won't.
No comment on the customization thing? Maybe it isn't there, which is a bummer, that would be really great
I wouldn't write it out just yet. Wait until either closer to release or until release before throwing in the towel.
I really like this, I just hope the rest of the generation looks good. I'm hoping for some evolutions for previous generation Pokemon.
There were two new Pokémon towards the end of yesterday’s Pokémon X and Pokémon Y trailer. These are new Legendary Pokémon and their names are: Xerneas and Yveltal.

Phonetic spelling:
Xerneas: ZURR-nee-us
Yveltal: ee-VELL-tawl

Xerneas:

Yveltal:

So their names begin with X and Y, and not only that, but Yveltal using the 2D "Y" Axis, as it's in the sky, and Xerneas is on the ground, thus in the X axis.
However, they're both in the shape of a Y. So nothing on that basis.

Additionally, it'll be interesting when these games come out internationally (almost everywhere, but probably end up this doesn't happen) and there's not going to be much information on the games online at that point.
Unless it leaks early and somebody live streams it.
In which case, you're all fucked.
When were there names released (for the legendaries that is)?

Also, Xerneas was weird as, instead of looking like an X, he simply had an X in his eye.

EDIT-
Oh yeah, I noticed something interesting in the trailer.

You can clearly see a Golurk, a Palpitoad (both of which are ground types), and a trainer, but theres a 3rd pokemon on that statue. Look at Golurk's arm, he's holding an Eevee, or at least what looks like one (it's kinda hard to tell). Why is this a big deal? Well, it probably isn't, but I think it would be neat if Gamefreak is taking full advantage of the global launch by introducing new pokemon as you go via little hints and what not (instead of always having them simply pop up in the grass. Perhaps the trainer is the town's gym leader and the statue implies that he used to have an Eevee, but it is now a new ground type Eevee. Of course, this is all wild speculation so take it with a grain of salt.

I must admit though, I'm super excited for this game. I'm terrible at avoiding spoilers and what not, so pretty much every past pokemon game has been spoiled for me during the 6 or so month wait for it to be translated, but with a universal launch, it'll be interesting to be able to see all new pokemon for the first time when they show up in the wild and not know what type they are, if they evolve, ect.
Pokémon Company sent me a press release with the names... No other information for the moment though.

In the previous games, didn't it randomly decide encounters for every tile you moved in the patches of grass? If so, how will it work if, say, these games don't move in a grid like BW did? I'm more curious that critical of this.

Since nobody answered this yet: most likely, it'll first have some way of detecting that you're in long grass (if you're walking on a specific type of surface or whatnot), and then it'll have some sort of algorithm that decides random encounters. What I'd do myself is that I'd have a grid arranged on the surface, each box similar to the size of tiles in the original games (relative to the rest of the world), and every time the player walks into a new box you run the random encounter algorithm. Then it won't do it again until you walk into another box.

If they do that, you've basically got the old system, but in 3D. That's how I'd personally do it, but they may do it completely differently, who knows. I haven't had any experience with coding 3D environments though so I could even be way off with the usability or possibility of my theory.

By the way, since I'm on the topic, it would be cool if they added more areas where random encounters can occur. I can't really think of anything right now but maybe you can climb huge trees or something? I dunno.
Haha, I just thought of something. I hope the cliffs you can jump down from are fairly low (to contrast the cliffs that are just walls). Idk why, but the idea of running into a knee high wall that I'm unable to simply step up to amuses me greatly.

And yes, I know they will most likely be about head height or something.

Garurumon digivolve to.. Oh wait, shit. I sure hope that wouldn't come to pass though, think of the madness!
I see all of their final evolutions being the definition of elegance
Wait, aren't foxes inside of the canine family?
