IMO just negated every single point in your post. And you're trying to just back-pedal out of it so nobody tells you that you're still being ignorant.

As stated above: Mario did win sales wise, proving his games were infact, more entertaining (same situation today). However, this by no means implies that any of Sonic's games were bad. If the games weren't such absolute masterpieces we wouldn't have the million Sonic fans and communities today.
I'm not ignorant, it's just how I see it. I can understand you, but that doesn't mean I agree with you.
Sonic did beat out Mario in sales for a very brief period after he was first introduced. Part of why he's in Macy's Thanksgving Parade and Mario is not.
I think the games that let sonic down in the 3D era was Sonic Heroes/Sonic '06/Sonic Unleashed. (This varies from opinion though. These are the games that have low reviews.)
Reviewers like IGN ( Idiotic General Noobs) give shitty reviews. Certain really bad games have high reviews and better games get lower reviews
You all have to understand that Sonic was always a cashcow, and he's had shit-tastic games throughout his entire career. Even in the 2D era, things weren't so smooth for him. Sonic Blast is generally despised, and of course there's Sonic Drift and its sequel, there's Sonic R being the first real introduction to 3D, and Sonic 3D Blast is a hotbed of debate.

Sonic has and always will have his ups and downs because he is whored like no other.

That is certainly not the case for these games though, as much as I like them.
If it weren't for the day stages of unleashed, the werehog was more than enough for me to turn into a mario fan for good. The day time stages saved sonic's ass for me. At first, I thought that it would be cool, but then, all of a sudden, the speed was sucked away and the night stages felt like you were fighting your way through a long boring homework assignment.

Wow that just 1 game could turn you away from series... It's stupid in my eyes.
I am a Mario fan as equal as a Sonic fan.
I dislike the Mario 3D games (though 64 was okay; beaten the final boss of and couldn't be bothered to 100% Sunshine), I am dead honest about it. I am not obligated to swallow everything that had Mario in its name.
Same goes for Sonic. Sonic 1-3K: Awesome, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2: Great, never played '06 and never will. Like Kriven said, he had his ups and downs. Gems like SA2 and Sonic 3&K will always exist, which is enough to keep me a fan. All we can do is hope SEGA/Sonic Team gets it right once again.
Special Stage spoiler:
Dear Speedbabies:

How come I can still see what I'm doing and control the vehicle in F-Zero, but Sonic slides like his shoes are wax and the levels blur into one color.

Srs question
wait

sonic's shoes aren't made of wax?

I only had this problem on Unleashed, where the stages are TOO FREAKING FAST and you can't really react to anything. Colors is not that fast and you pretty much see and react to anything. Generations I guess it is at the start, but you eventually get used to it. At least I did.

Also, it's easier to design a track than a stage. F-Zero cars go at max speed most of the time, so I'm inclined to think that the game "tricks" you to have a sensation of speed, while Sonic you pretty much are going very fast, since you can go really slow and all that.
Sonic 06 is an objectively awful game but it's definitely entertaining
maybe even *gasp* fun
But it'll make you soooo angry ahahaha

Dude... You honestly think that I would come to a conclution like that for just 1 game, not only is it stupid in your eyes, it's stupid in my eyes to. I've been a hardcore sonic fan ever since I was 7 years old. I was pissed off at the series, not because of just 1 game, but several others. I hated nearly all of the gamecube series exept for Sonic riders, SADX, SA2B, just because of the gameplay. The game that really pissed me off was Sonic '06. The game was glitchy, stages were interrupted because you would have to switch to another character in order to continue (sometimes I don't even understand why), and WORST OF ALL, after all your efforts, the story of the entire game gets negated, which really is a piss off. The storyline was creative, It would have been cool if it would continue on to other games, but fuck it. After the intoduction of the werehog, Sonic was near dead to me. Like I said, if it weren't for the day stages, I would be a mario fan.
