It also has to with people thinking when other people say its a bad game, so others think the same. People shouldn't always complain about every single thing in a game. What's the fun of it? Sure the physics annoyed me sometimes, especially the rope swinging physics that were fucked up, but I don't complain if the rest of the game is pretty decent.
The issue is that the physics make up a large part of what the game is. If it was just a single level, fine, but it's something present at every second of the game.

True, but it also depends on how much you make a problem of it. If you just play to enjoy, you will stop nitpicking about the physics. The physics are crap, but still, the game was very fun to play even though not everything felt right. That's why I said "You'll get used to it fast" because you do.
If you stop complaining about it that is.
I could live with Episode 1. It was short but sweet.
The physics were a little awkward, but that's it.
I think everybody knows the problem is it's physics, but what about the meow mix music, constant rehashing of everything, and the many step-downs from it's predecessors that hinder this and episode 1 from being a proper sequel?
Idk about this one because it's not even out yet and I didn't play the leaked version, but yeah, those were genuine complains about Sonic 4. It could have been MUCH better. I guess I had some fun with it, but I was expecting more, that's why people complain and compare with the other games in the series. The hype was big, it didn't live up to it.

It was in development ever since the completion of the Hedgehog engine (as I read it, it would probably mean that the two game concepts were done at the same time).

Do some research, use some common sense, believe nothing from the Sonic News Network. The Hedgehog Engine is a graphics engine. It has nothing to do with the gameplay or what games were decided. It was made to be used by SEGA after Sonic 2006 and by third parties if they were willing to pay. Apparently no-one was, so now no-one talks about it anymore.
I really don't get it. Sonic Generations 3DS really got Classic Sonic gameplay down pat, even better than the console versions did to be honest.

The Homing Attack may have put off purists or whatever but it felt solid and it felt like a good 2D Sonic game should.

They should use that engine for their 2D games, and not whatever they're using for Episode II because it doesn't look quite as solid to me. Still looks kinda fakey floaty.
Or just follow the classic physics guide that's been constantly rubbed in their face.
Sonic 4: Episode Twosday

don't think anybody will be celebrating this in coming years

I like the THX bootup sound at the end of the trailer

Also not surprised that they're apparently squeezing a trilogy out of this.
I can't wait to buy this; I really liked Episode 1 and I'm sure this will be just as enjoyable.
Okay, what. I'm playing the game right now and I am on the first stage boss. The physics are better, but Sonic still feels like he has a chain ball attached to his feet. Even on the bonus stage. Seriously, I guess I'll have to do a Sonic marathon and see if I'm remembering things wrong, because this is not good. I miss being able to move smoothly. The music...is still not that great, but feels like it can grow on you. Not as bad as Episode 1 too, but I want to shoot the guy who composed the boss theme for the first game, because it's back and it's still annoying (it's this one). Tails so far is not that necessary, but I guess that's a cool addon at least.

I must say...this does not live up to the hype at all. Maybe my opinion will change when I finish it or play more, but it's giving me a terrible first impression.

Edit: Oh wait, I have some positive things about the game at least. The level design is WAY better and the first boss is really cool.
i've been playing this on multiplayer only with my good buddy gatsby, and, after having gone back to the levels in single player to get the red rings
i can safely say that this game is a lot more fun with a friend. granted, i've only played sonic, but it's still hilarious to be dragged around by your friend's flying around the level, or to keep pulling your friend into a tag move, especially when they're not expecting to need to fly you up for something.

overall, i'm enjoying the game so far. gatsby and i just beat the oil desert boss, which is a real pain in the ass on your first time through, and we're going to move on to the final zone later.
