Mm, that was quite a bit for me to process, but I think I worked something out. Still, even though I'll admit that judging how much exaggeration is needed isn't one of my strongest points, I feel like there's only so much I could do with these puppets. If you compare the sprites used in the second and third entires of the series to all the sprites in the Mairo & Luigi games, it's clear that they are not built for outlandish actions (i.e. comical jaw drops) nor good silhouettes. With that in mind, I'm looking forward to tackling actual animation in different series, while leaving the Paper Mario animations for only two different series. Despite this, I try my best to keep pushing this animation style to make it even better than the original games without losing the sort of cutout charm that gives it that distinct flavor.

So, here we are with some Goombas. How are these?

Once again Karate Joe pulls through with another set of critiques! Here's what I got based on what he suggested and a few new things added.

I didn't really get much feedback, but I was told by Ziggy on Starman.net that Goombario needed a palette adjustment. Also, I tweaked Mario's tongue color again and finished up the hands.

Karate Joe provided a sizable amount of well-needed critique for me over on DK Vine, so I'll be keeping myself busy for the rest of today (and possibly tomorrow) following all that.

Karate Joe Wrote:Sorry for the absence, I forgot there was a new sheet on the last page. I'll start there.
The wing's looking a lot more fitting next to the other one. The only additional change I'd make is to have the second feather from the top be a bit more jagged. It's the only feather with 4 corners while the others have 3, if that makes sense.
Goombario's hat looks good, I would just change the line of the cap portion of the hat so that it looks like it curves down onto the line of his body. Great work on the shape of the rim though. For the back of the hat, I think the rim can be shortened just a bit.
The palette of the lonely Goomba is really nice, and the alternate heads look good. At a glance they might be a little taller than the regular ones, but I don't know if that's the intention. I prefer B for the side head, since I think Goombas are usually bilaterally symmetrical.

Goombario's new outline color could be made a little darker. Between the hands, B looks really nice, but the outline thickness difference between the finger and the front of the fist might need to be made a little more gradual. The red tongue is my favorite of the three.
For the hands, the only one that looks off to me is the last one on the second row. The way the third finger connects to the base of the hand makes it look like there's only three fingers, so maybe make connection between finger and the hand just slightly indented, or you could try adding a fourth finger into the perspective. The rest of the hands look really great though, awesome work on those.

Until I get those adjustments in order, here's a small update to chew over.

Here we go! The changes have been applied!

Oh, by the way, Blanish/Grendel from Starman.net chimed in on the Big Lantern Ghost progress. He wants me to go with sole C and arm A.

I'm running out of things to work on, so I drew up these.

SmithyGCN raised a solid point on Skype regarding the front and back feet - he mentioned that they should be more at an angle.

After SuperArthurBros. told me that the new feet are a bit fat in the front, I made just another alteration.

Trying to get Peach's dress to look right in such a limited style is absurdly challenging. While it makes sense to create multiple parts for certain animations, the two main problems are how contextual those animations are (especially if I need to create slower actions) and how much space they'll use on a texture sheet. For something like this, I feel like less is more.

So, both SuperArthurBros. and Karate Joe gave me feedback recently. As a result, I'm trying to find a mix between their different opinions.

I think the second wing is better.
Yeah, the second wing has a 3D-like feel. Where you can feel the wings popping towards you. Other one is a tad flat.
Sounds good to me! I just have to wait and see what Karate Joe thinks, but I really like the wing in question.

I say Goomba B without the lump
