It's mostly my own fault, I've been having a long-ass work week and for some reason I was listening to videos in the background at the same time and let myself get distracted. I just feelĀ  kind of miffed that after passing out twice in a row and suddenly getting him so far gone that he was limping, I got myself caught in a looping combo of charges with no means of escaping despite having full health.

Sheeth your weapon and 'superman dive' then press nothing, you're invinsible until you start getting up.
I was just forced to pick up Assassin's Creed because my girlfriend freaked out when I told her I hadn't played it. I'm enjoying it so far, but I'm glad I waited to play it. If I had picked it up around the time it originally came out it probably would have pissed me off.
I never got those games. Like the first one seemed pretty dull, but I picked up the second one anyway as everyone was raving about it only to spend like the first 30 minutes or so carrying a pot around or whatever it was. Not my cup of tea...
making it a goal for 2017 to start playing more recent games. all i have on my ps3 is the obsolete version of BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma, Sonic the Fighters, Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, Legend of Mana, and KOF XI (via a PS2 disk).

But this year i'm planning to upgrade BBCP and download GGXrd-R- and Dragon Ball Xenoverse. Everyone's probably playing Xenoverse 2 but I'm sure there's a small amount of people who don't own a newer console or steam account and are stuck with older consoles. I have some hope that i can play online with other people for once. it gets lonely when i'm on vacation in the middle of nowhere. lol
So I just moved into my new house, and right before I moved I downloaded the new Shantae game (Wii U version) and I've been playing that while my internet has been down. I haven't finished the game, but I just wanted to give a few thoughts based on what I've played so far.

First of all, if you're already a fan of the series, you're going to notice a couple differences right off the bat. The most obvious one is the lack of an overworld to explore; instead you get a Mario World / Donkey Kong Country style map that you can select stages from. Although you don't get to move on to the next level just by completing a stage, rather you unlock stages by completing small quests for people you meet in the main town area.

Now I'm sure a lot of die-hard fans are going to complain about the lack of a proper overworld, but honestly I think the series has been slowly heading in that direction over the course of its games anyways. Each of the previous three games has had smaller and smaller overworlds, with Pirate's Curse opting for more of a themed zones approach. Personally, I think their choice to abandon an overworld altogether has done a lot to strengthen this title. Levels can now be big open spaces instead of confined to caverns, and it's resulted in some stellar level designs.

Speaking of level designs, I feel like the creators of this game must have taken a page out of Donkey Kong's book, because maybe it's just me, but a lot of the level designs feel like something you'd find in the DKC games. Some areas feel a lot like DKC2, while others feel more like DKC Returns. Mind you, I'm just talking about the level designs themselves, the game itself doesn't play like Donkey Kong (although I could totally see Dixie whipping people with her hair).

It differs from DKC greatly, though, in the fact that you'll want to return to levels and explore them more thoroughly as you gain new transformations and abilities. As you gain more and more skills, the areas you can explore in a level become more and more labyrinthine.

The game also feels much faster paced to me than previous installments too. And I say that having played all of the previous Shantae games within the last month. And granted, the game doesn't FORCE you to be speedy most of the time; you could just as easily take your time and be more procedural if that's your jam, but the point is that the game allows for more fast paced gameplay than previous installments, and in my opinion it makes it a lot more fun. I bet this game is going to be really fun to speed run; I've already discovered a lot of little tricks you can do to help yourself in certain areas.

The humor is pretty spot on as well, even moreso than previous titles, I feel. The dialog feels at par with something from the better Paper Mario games, although thankfully this game isn't as text heavy.

Like I said I haven't finished the game yet, so I don't want to give any sort of final judgement, but so far I think it might be my favorite game of the year. Buuuuut ... that is actually a less bold statement than it sounds, as I've only bought like 4 games this year (don't judge me! I was using all my money to buy a house!). At the very least I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys 2D platformers. I wouldn't worry too much about if you haven't played the previous installments in the series, it doesn't really require any prior knowledge; although I would recommend giving them a try at some point because they are also good games.
Still playing Monster Hunter, and also Mario Run (it's pretty decent).

I think Shantae and Wild Guns Reloaded is out on the 20th here, so I keep checking Amazon for the physical release every few days...
slither.io is both really addicting and stressful. not the best thing for my mental health >.>
Oh

Oh no

I saw the above post and started playing slither.io

It's agar.io all over again

I'll never return from this

Goodbye friends
Been playing Overwatch on PS4 again. Thank god I got that damn yeti skin for Winston. If I missed out on that I'd be anxious for it until next year.
so dragon's crown wasn't quite what i expected it to be. instead of a typical arcade-style beatemup, i got a full-blown world of warcraft action RPG! that's actually really clever tbh. i just started playing and cleared a quest, but i'm pretty excited to see what else it has to offer! so far i have a sorceress named Holly on my team, and then there's the guy who collects treasure for me. forgot his name but he's actually kinda cute. c:

i'm out at a relative's house constantly wishing to be back at my own house so i could continue playing dragon ball xenoverse. it's so effing good. i don't think i've played a better dragon ball game. it's just so well-balanced in difficulty and really enjoyable. a little disappointed that you have to grind by doing PQs in order to continue with the main story, but as long as i get to dive into a fun dragon ball game i'm totally satisfied.

I also gave guilty gear xrd -revelator- and WOW. it has like EVERYTHING there is to know about the entire franchise. i'm both impressed and overwhelmed. lol
I've been playing a wonderful and adorable indie game I found during steam's winter sale, called Wuppo. It's a fantastic exploration platformer with excellent writing and world building. Each area you visit is packed with personality and full of dynamic characters moving about the screen living their lives, its really impressive to see. It went so far that to get on a train you actually have to get a ticket, and wait in line for 5 minutes and then wait for a cleaning crew to clean the train before you can get on. I know something like this isn't for everyone, but I just love this kind of world building.

It's games like this that show the silver lining in steam greenlight's mountain of crap.

Danganronpa 2 and Gravity Rush since I picked up a preowned Vita quite cheap in really nice condish. The games are unusually cheap, too, probably because of the system's apparent failure in sales...
just beat shantae half genie hero, makes me wish there was a show based on the artstyle.
