People expect a game such as this to still be relevant to play after 9 months. A lack of a support for such a title is just poor. The price isn't too much of an issue for the hardcore fan as yes, buying all the new characters as DLC would cost more.

But what about those who never want to play as those new characters? A rebalance + new moves upgrade is hardly worth $40 to them. And in all seriousness how many of these new characters do you think people will seriously put time into? 2? 3? I don't know many who play with every character for a long amount of time. So in that case most people would only be interested in downloading 3 characters top, if that - if any!

For the people who brought the game the first time around they've spent $60+$40. $100 on this game. Instead of just the one time purchase. If a game is re-released with additional content that content should be available for people who already own the game without having to buy it again.

Imagine if instead of the big DLC for Fallout 3 being DLC, it came out on disc every time, with the original game (sure your save would still work in this case). It would just be stupid, and that's what this is - stupid.

While there has been a lack of support, quite a bit of it (unless revealed otherwise) was a result of the tsunami.

Don't buy it.

Most people that play fighting games will try every character at least once-- sometimes twice. As the game gets older and evolves, new secrets and gameplay strategies are found that cause players to want to rotate the characters they are using. It's very unlikely that your day one MvC3 team is the same as your current team unless you're a very casual player, or you managed to click with your team. And even then, something about your team and gameplay style has changed.

Yes, and it sucks. Here is where I will agree with you; Marvel vs Capcom 3 was sold as a blatantly incomplete game. It is missing many core features that should have been included in the first place. People have a right to be upset about that part. I am even bothered about it myself, but it is not such a big deal that Capcom should be sent to a firing squad.

(09-11-2011, 04:23 PM)Goemar Wrote: [ -> ]If a game is re-released with additional content that content should be available for people who already own the game without having to buy it again.
Except this is sort of different, because this is twelve brand-new characters, rebalancing, updated gameplay mechanics, etc. It's a little bit bigger than a patch-- you'd have to download quite a lot of data.

As for specific things like DLC characters being bought separately and only buying the ones you want-- that would throw off online play significantly. Just look at MK9's online play-- incompatible patch players are all over the place; some characters without any DLC characters at all! Meaning that if you did a lot of practice with, say, Rain, and the opposing player doesn't have the Rain DLC, you can't use Rain. Having the option to pick and choose what characters you want is nice, but if you never actually get to use them in competitive play-- what's the point?

Ultimate is going to put everybody that buys it on equal level.

Except Fallout 3 DLC is usually one or two missions and some new items. It's not a giant update like this is.

People have a right to be mad about UMvC3 just like people have a right to be upset about Nintendo's ridiculous second analog stick attachment. The difference is that UMvC3 has been in the air for months, which is plenty of time for people to get over the fact that they're "being shafted" and actually realize that overall it's a better deal than buying a bunch of characters separately. The Nintendo attachment has only been known about for a few days and people are still calming down over it.

Plus the details are still a little foggy; if the new attachment ends up becoming a requirement in order to play many future games, it will be a very big deal. You are not required to buy Ultimate to still enjoy Marvel.

Is UMvC3 dumb in essence?

Yes, it's very dumb in essence. They could have delayed MvC3 longer and then U wouldn't have to exist.

But UMvC3 is more for the hardcore crowd anyway. Nobody is saying you have to buy it, especially if you're doing just fine with vanilla MvC3. I'm sure there are going to be plenty of people still playing vanilla so they can keep their old balance and old characters. People still play Street Fighter II to this day. Capcom is not going to break into your house and break your knees if you own MvC3 and don't buy Ultimate.

I don't understand what this paragraph is supposed to mean exactly, could you explain

also, unlike Fallout, there is one definite bonus to having it all be on a disc; it's hell for a tournament to organize 14 DLC character purchases (counting Jill and Shuma)

imagine how much longer every tournament would have to take because people would get delayed because "whoop, sorry, this station, the only free one at the moment, doesn't have Phoenix Wright because my little brother thinks he's 'gay,' wait until another one opens up" (in case you don't realize, tournaments matter a lot for a fighting game considering that's where the people who actually care about them and who the games are actually made for go to play)

It's already shown not required for MonsterHunter 3ds which it has an option of coming out with, I'm sure it's more of an optional for controls, and even if its required, it's still only a one time buy. Just like UMvC3 wiill be. So not really a big deal either way.
Well, there you go! Nintendo attachment is only required for one game. No longer a big deal!
free tony hawk wireless motion boards for everyone, yeee haww.

I find this very very hard to believe. I mean if that was the case wouldn't there be at least plans for DLC prior to that?

That's my main issue. I don't feel good about Capcom asking me to pay to fix for something they broke.

All the DLC for games like Fallout and Dragon Age come under the "lot of data" category, so this isn't much of a point.

A title patch allowing you to play against the characters but not play as them could be easily done. Hell if Everybody's Golf can do it so can this.

Again Dragon Age and Fallout 3's DLC take up a big chunk of data

Exactly.

For tournament players, yes good for you - enjoy the game. But for the rest of us I think we have a right to be a bit miffed at Capcom for this (along with Monster Hunter Portable 3 looking like it's not getting an English release, Megaman Legends 3 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record).

Plus: Thanks a decent response.
reality: i'm pissed because i know i'll be getting it anyway
A few missions and some new items may be "a lot of data" but it's not anywhere close to the level that is twelve new characters with completely original and unique move sets, new stages, gameplay enhancements, and new moves.

It's not like Capcom plans on screwing their fighting game fanbase over; SSF4: Arcade Edition was available both as a disc and DLC. Because Arcade Edition only adds four new characters + rebalancing. UMvC3 adds twelve.
How many people spend most of their fighting game time outside of arcade, vs, and online mode? Just askin. People arguing that the didn't get a complete experience obviously don't play the game.
the only real feature that was missing out of vanilla as far as modes or overall "experience" goes was a spectator mode for online lobbies, which is being added for this, so... yeah

also I'm gonna chime in with what zero said in that I'm not sure there's anyone who Actually Plays Fighting Games (as games of strategy and skill and they understand them instead of using them as interactive 3D model viewers with healthbars that do flashy things*) who really still complains about umvc3

*not that you're not allowed to do this, but if you do, then stop being mad about ultimate so much, you're probably gonna forget about it in a few months anyway and a lot of the changes besides the new characters won't matter for you
and the fact that you're not in any way forced to buy it under any circumstance anyway.
