And maybe there could be an electric/poison frog instead of another Pikachu clone.

Well, the idea with the Pikachu clone is more so that it's a tradition from generation to generation to have some sort of cutesy electric rodent. And electric/poison from would be cool though.
Yes I always wanted an Electric/Poison combination.
Whelbar
Barline

Whelbar is a striped cat/kitten/tiger cub.
Type: Normal
Tiger Cub Pokemon

Barline is a tiger.
Type: Normal/Steel
Wild Cat Pokemon
Barline's Steel type comes from its adamant skeleton and claws. Barline weighs a lot because of that.

Each generation, excluding Gen 2, had a cat Pokemon with one evo. There's a leopard and a lion among them, but no tiger, so here you go.
I like it, although the sudden color change is a bit odd. Not unheard of in the Pokemon world but odd none the less. Aside from that I like it.

What other gen traditions do we need to cover? I think we may have them all covered but I'm not sure.
Well there's the Bird, the Ratatta, the Electric Rodent, the metamorphosis bug Pokemon, the cat, and the dog.
Oh hey, for the dog, what if we combined the idea of a dalmation and a fire fighter (since fire fighters traditionally use dalmations)? I could see it having two evolutions.

Base Form would be based on a puppy and would probably be Normal/Water.

First Evolution would be Normal/ Water and would probably be more adult looking with elements designed to make it look somewhat like a fire fighter.

Aside from that, I think all the other traditions have at least 1 suggestion covering them as of right now.
Okay added Sketchasaurus' suggestions as well as your Fire Fighting hound.
Haha, when you said that I was confused. "Fire fighting? I said he was normal/water... Oh!"
Hm this isn't going the way I hoped it would. I thought by now we'd have more starter suggestions. So I'm going to start the Starter Voting now. We'll start with the Grass Starter. There's only three suggestions:

Kiwi
Puffball Mushroom/ Aramdillo
Parakeet

Tell me which one you think should be our Grass type.
Honestly, I like all 3 ideas so hopefully we can use them all one way for the other, but I think I'm most fond of the Parakeet idea.
Doesn't it make more sense to vote by design than by animal idea?

I mean, it would be bad to be stuck with an arbitrarily chosen animal only to realize nobody can make a decent set of designs for it

(even with a general description of what the designs would be, that doesn't mean it will turn out as good as hoped)
Thats a good point. Maybe we should wait until we move on to the design phase of the project, then when we have all the designs we can vote, and whatever doesn't make the cut can simply become a normal nonstarter pokemon.
There's two reasons why that doesn't work.

Reason 1: I always felt a Pokemon Idea and a Pokemon Design are two separate things. I look at Fakemon all the time. Sometimes a Pokemon can be a great design but a terrible idea. Sometimes it can be a great idea but have a terrible design.

The difference is that you can fix and improve a bad design, but you can't fix or improve a bad idea. A Pokemon shouldn't be in our Pokedex simply because it looks good. Its got to be a good idea too!

Reason 2: The design we'd vote on wouldn't be final. If we have a design, we constantly change it and improve it. Like Nicktendo could submit a cool looking Kiwi, but other members are allowed to take that design and modify it. We keep doing that until it looks as good as possible.

It's not like one person submits a design and that's the one we'd be using instantly. It's a community project, we design these things together.
I vote for Kiwi bush. It doesn't have to be grass/flying in the end but it would be a nice change for the grass type.
Either way the Kiwi bush is my favorite idea, but it might need some tweaking.
I have a feeling the Kiwi will win since that's the first suggestion and the one someone attempted to make a design for. I'll give it a few more posts, but I'm pretty sure that what people will want. It's the Water type that's going to be difficult to decide.
