Breath of Fire (SNES)
#1
https://www.spriters-resource.com/snes/breathfire/

Time to replay it on SNES (years ago I experienced it on GBA) and get some rips done.
Used emulator is bsnes-rawpalettes, a true colour mod for bsnes+ and my tool of choice.
Used ROM is the U [!] version to make sure the codes below work properly.

Misc.
NPCs
Enemies & Bosses
Animals
Battle Backgrounds
Some Maps

No Random Battle by Helder
022F-C748 or
Works flawless, but from time to time it spawns a Mlb3 prompt which you have click away. Use the code below this one to get rid of it.

Infinite Mlb3 by Ugetab
7E1091:05
Prevents the Mlb3 prompt from happening and should be used with the No Random Battle code.

Increase Random Encounters  by slab
7E1090:00
Only useful for ripping sprites.

Walk through Walls by Helder / slab
6DB4-C72E or 7E1002:02
First one works fine everywhere, therefore haven't tried the second one.

Invincible in Battle by Helder / Unknown
60AE-C46A or 7E104E:4D
For the hardest bosses.

Sell Items to get Tons of Cash by Almar's Guide
1EE2-1FF3
Doesn't give you too much money, maybe 20k per sold item. It's a code that doesn't break the game balance, but can be used for emergencies / convenience.

Infinite Magic in Battle by Helder
C9C3-CF63
Haven't tried it yet.

Walk faster by Breath of Fire Editor on Romhacking
DDB3-372E
DD8F-4DBA
Have it activated all the time, this is how it always should've been.

Permanent Daylight by nolberto82
CB31-3D3B
D431-3F4B
6E31-3F1B
Perfect for battle bgs & maps.

Quicksaves for bsnes-rawpalettes
https://mega.nz/file/wZhnTDTQ#XqdDHyIGdn...XCLLerhIdM
153 BST quicksaves in 16 folders from the entire game.

Cutscene with Zog, Jade & Demon Generals
- after you beat Pincher (boss)

Ingredients for the Tonic against Amnesia
The patient is in Tunlan and the doctor resides in Carmen. The hints from the doctor's assistant are not very detailed, so here is a complete list for the ingredients (overworld only):
- C. Nut (Coconut): Warp to Gant, then go east to the old man's tent surrounded by coconut trees. Switch to Ox and punch the trees until you get the C. Nut.
- W. Ant (White Antler): Warp to Carmen and fight a few random encounters in that area. When the white deer appears, switch to Bo and hunt it.
- Root: Warp to Gramor and switch to Mogu, then dig below one of the weird plants.
- P. Fish (Pufferfish?): Go to the Scande bridge (red water), switch to Ryu, equip a worm and a rod, then start fishing. Scande is east of Carmen.

Fishing Rods & Bait
- Bait: Shop in Auria / Prima
- Rod 1: Shop in Auria / Prima
- Rod 2: Shop in Prima
- Rod 3: Doesn't exist
- Rod 4: Mousehole section north of Gust (permanently missable if you don't open its chest)
- Rod 5: Go to the Tunlan safe and fall through the left trapdoor, then move the right box and search the spot where the box stood
All rods can be used where fishes swim around (overworld) + broken Scande bridge, Rod 5 can also be used on overworld wells to get special equipment for the dragon shrines

Dragon Equipment
Dragon Sword: Overworld well with Ryu's Rod 5
Dragon Armor: Fish at the pier in Spring once it's thawed
Dragon Shield: Overworld well with Ryu's Rod 5
Dragon Helmet: Overworld well with Ryu's Rod 5

Strongest Weapons for Ryu
- Tri-Rang: On a small island with two towers north of Agua (invisible spot on the overworld)
- Emperor Sword: On Obsidian, after defeating Jade (invisible spot near the throne)

Dragon Transformations
Snow / Flame / Thunder: Dragon Shrine 1
Ice / Fire / Bolt / Gold: Dragon Shrine 2 (clear Shrine 1 + have Dragon Sword
Rudra: Dragon Shrine 3 (clear shrine 2 + have Dragon Armor)
Agni: Clear Water Cave near Romero, enter the water in the last room (clear shrine 3)

Reparing the elevator in Scande
- Carmen: Talk to the mysterious cloaked person and get the pass
- Go to Scande, talk to them again
- Talk to the guy just next to the Scande tower
- Inspect the elevator panel
- Go to Spring and get the parts from the climber
- Warp to Gant and repair the parts
- Back to Scande, you can now use the elevator

How to enter Obelisk
- go to Gramor, talk to the master digger
- now you have to do some delivery service between the boomerang guy (east of Gant) and the weapon-collecting granny on a lone island (north of boomerang guy)
- after everything has been done, you get the I. Claw
- show it to the master digger in Gramor, who will teach Mogu how to use it
- Mogu can now dig through the crack to enter Obelisk

Best Ending
- use Agni in the last fight (only usable if all party members have at least 1 HP and Karn isn't fused)

Various sprites, the game is easy to rip. This is everything up to the Knight boss in Nanai dungeon.
This boss is just too strong, even with the best sword and Lv. 8 I cannot beat him (or I just need more herbs).

Now in the jail cell with Karn.

The Gremlin was really tough to beat, didn't remember that I struggled so much with him.

Balancing is also a bit weird (either this or because I was skipping a lot with NoRandomBattle):

- Camlon Castle is really good for levels, but after you beat the Frog only the low-level enemies on the world map remain.
- Therefore the Knight in Nanai was way too hard, damage output from Ryu was very low (even with LongSD) but the boss hit very hard.
- Wizard was easy for Ryu and the overall enemies in that area were managable.
- It continues until you get to the Forest of Despair, which throws easy-to-beat enemies with high EXP & GP at you. Bosses are easy too.
- Wisp on the flying island was only kinda hard, since Bo and Nina were falling way too fast but Ryu was just tanking everything. Fought with him alone and won easily. Enemies were low level from previous areas.
- Stone Robot: Regular enemies, boss was managable. Then... the Gremlin appeared after the wedding. It felt like he had a whole second energy bar after I cleared the first one. Luckily I had all these items for attacking and healing, Bo couldn't even last two hits.

Beat the game, all in all just as good as I remember.
And as soon as you have 4 party members and access to Karn's fusions, you can leave out most of the random encounters.
Bosses are still hard if you don't level up properly, like Eye Spy, Gremlin, Talon, Mote, etc.
Although the moment you get Agni, you're basically invincible and occasionally have to use a cure for the last few bosses.

Balance between SNES & GBA version seems to be the same:

The palettes for Deathbringer's party sprites are off by one value, therefore I can't use anything from it, like expanding the sheet.

red-green-blue values for the lightest shade in Ryu's hair (overworld):
0-160-224 (bsnes-rawpalettes)
0-161-225 (Deathbringer's emulator)

red-green-blue values for the lightest shade in Ryu's shoes (overworld):
224-128-0 (bsnes-rawpalettes)
225-129-0 (Deathbringer's emulator)

Too bad there is no debug mode with all sprites laid out like in Breath of Fire 2.

Btw, I've added the quicksaves for bsnes-rawpalettes in the main post.

Shouldn't take too long, the game is sparse with enemy sprites for monsters.

There are more palette swaps than I thought, Jade and Cerl change it depending on the scene playing.

- Cerl palette swaps
- Hooded Jade palette swaps (Tunlan, Carmen, Scande, Scande Tower, Scande Dungeon)
- Sara petrified
- Dark Dragon Soldier palette swaps (purple, violet, orange)
- Dragon / grid / face up (doesn't exist without standing still in the air)
- Eye Spy
- Sandworm

This should be it, but it needs more organization.

I will submit it together with enemies & bosses + the intermissions / cutscenes (Dragon Lord, Stone Robot, Cort, Sara, Rudra, Agni).
SFX are missing, though. I will get to it in time.

Enemies & Bosses are done. NPCs are next.

Quote:Chun-Li from Street Fighter II can be seen in her blue qipao outfit practicing her “Hyakuretsukyaku” (“Hundred Rending Kicks” AKA “Lightning Kick”) in Bleak.2
To see this, the player must speak with the magician in the northwestern house in Bleak. After agreeing to put money on the table, the player must select “No” twice, followed by “Yes” to see Chun-Li.
If the player says “No” to the magician 24 times before saying “Yes”, Chun-Li’s qipao outfit will be red instead of blue, echoing her alternate color outfit from Street Fighter II’: Champion Edition.

As an additional secret, if the player has the BrokenSD (Broken Sword) equipped on Ryu prior to the final boss battle and achieves the True Ending, Chun-Li will be present in Drogen during the ending sequence.

Battle Backgrounds are all done.

Yes, Sara's unused portraits is badly recoloured.
I grabbed it from flyingomelette for testing because I couldn't really see if parts of it were identical with the ingame version or not.

I'll rip it from the DrWarp code:
Quote:Believe it or not, there is an unused song in Breath of Fire that was programmed into the game, but you will never actually hear it anywhere in the game. There is, however, a way to access it. To do this, you'll need to get the DrWarp into your inventory, but despite it being shown in the game's manual and being on the item list that came with the game, it doesn't exist during normal gameplay. But it can be hacked in. I only know how to do it with Pro Action Replay, not Game Genie, but if you use ZSNES, here's what to do:

Enter the cheat code 7E514036

Start a new game.

Get the V.PTN out of the burning chest. You'll need at least one item in your inventory. The first item in your inventory will change into the DrWarp when the above code is activated.

Technically, you can do this trick now, but the screen will be flashing red the way it is in the opening cinema. In order to escape that annoyance, let the beginning sequence play itself completely out. If you do, then you must leave the town and get into a battle. You can either fight it out or run away. The reason you have to get into a battle is to break the looping overworld song. Once the overworld song starts playing for the first time, it loops endlessly until you get into a battle, so if you don't break the loop, you won't hear the secret song in the hidden room.

Once that's all completed, I recommend either saving or making a save state. Now go into your inventory, use the DrWarp. A number will appear.
