Pokemon Sun and Moon?
Keep in mind this is a game meant to be accessible to kids. There are plenty of things to harp on the series for about it being too easy, but the Exp Share is the one thing that you can actually turn off. I feel like it's a good thing to have and not hard to adjust.

The way you describe it translates to me like someone accustomed to the hardest difficulty in a game complaining that they have to go to the options menu and select the hardest difficulty. The game can't read your mind, adjust it to your liking and jump in from there.

Also, change battle style from shift to set for a slight difficulty boost.

The Exp Share in the original games worked similarly (but not as good). You had to deposit it in the PC to "turn it off", so honestly this version is a lot better. The complaint about having to turn it off is pretty silly. They are making the game more accessible without sacrificing the preferences of older players.

There is one thing that I can see being more annoying than the Exp Share, and that's the fact you can see the effectiveness of moves after meeting a Pokémon for the first time.

I don't mind it too much, but unlike the Exp Share, you don't have a choice on whether or not to use it, at least as far as I've seen in the options.

Overall, the game made a lot of leaps towards making the game more difficult, particularly in how certain battles play out, so I'm willing to forgive it for its faults because of the larger improvements.

the only thing the exp share actually does in the long run is cut down on having to grind so i see that less as "easier" and more "efficient"

even then it's not like your party dupes the same amount of EXP your lead pokemon get. you still need to train them, it just makes what would otherwise be an obnoxious level gap less obnoxious

furthermore this game gets pretty difficult at times. obviously if you sit in an area and grind you're going out of your way to make the game much easier for yourself, but added features make it so you can play the game at a much, much more comfortable pace. this is necessary for a game with such a heavier (than usual in pokemon) emphasis on story

Looks like the male clothing options are all ehhhh this time around. I suppose I'll be playing as Chicken-Chan for this installment.

I just did the event before Poni Island begins and MY GOD the story is so much more enthralling than previous games. The villains are really good in this game too, so much better than Team Flare.

i feel like the villains are like...the worst in this game, but that's OK because it just works out better for the plot. like, every game people were freaking out about Team ____ but in this gen everyones like "lmao hits team skull, hide the faygo before they drink it all"

Gladeon is so comically edgy, I expected him to be a parody. People in-game somehow take this guy seriously, which confuses me. Is he really meant to look legit cool or is that part of the subtle humor behind him? He's straight up Pokémon's Shadow the Hedgehog!

I think what's funny is that nobody really does take Gladion seriously. Team Skull makes fun of him, Hau still has fun even though he loses, and when he says anything meaningful nobody even acknowledges him.

And then Silvally bites off his face.

N-no! Why would you think that?

I'm at a bit of a crossroads regarding what team I want this time. I know I want the new Marowak/Ninetales forms and Mimikyu but as for the rest, I might just decide when I'm actually playing.

But I like the look of that ghost anchor.

So I finally beat the main story, haven't done much post-game yet, but I probably will soon.

For how pumped I was after my last post above, the part of the story that excited me kind of... petered out. I do like how it plays out, more or less, and the last trainer you fight before the legendary was particularly expected in how it was designed, but basically what it felt like was the event before Poni Island was the climax, then there's and enormous pause, and then the climax finally finishes.

The post-legendary segment is better in my opinion at least, and although I predicted what the last battle would be, I was still very satisfied with it, and it felt a little bit like an unused battle concept from Red and Blue (I'll explain that later, I'm on my phone and don't feel like spoiler tagging).

Overall, I think this is my favorite Pokémon game. It's really good and makes a lot of improvements to the series overall.

Excellent games. One thing I do to make it harder is not use EXP Share, battle style to set, and no items in battle (cept Pokeballs). Gives it added punch.

Oh wow, I haven't seen this thread in ages. Why the bump?

Anyhow, I've barely even had the time to play this game to really talk about it beyond memes to be totally honest.

I remember finding about about the fact that there was an unused concept so you could battle professor oak in the original games, actually (which I'm guessing this is what you are referencing to.)

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if that's the concept they took for these games in particular.
