Back to posting, here's what I've been up to

Great to see you post your work again, especially the new things. Has it really been years since you made a topic here?

Anyways, about the King Boo. The style and colors are really great, no issues there. The gold part of the crown is very hard to read because of the way you highlighted the edge, you might try shading it differently. The shape of the jewel faces also seem off, almost like they're backwards in terms of perspective.
Last thing. I think the end of the arms should be pointier.

Those certainly aren't "crappy" sprites... I like them a lot!
The Sonics in the 2013 area looked weird to me at first, for some reason,
but they're good too.

Hi-five, Ridge! Yes, my last thread dates back to 2012. Tried some (minor) fixes to the crown and made the arms pointier at the ends. Also, a transparency test.

Background ripped by DK.

The crown perspective is wrong, I know, as the golden rim is slightly top-down while the jewel's perspective is frontal. Here's an edit, I'm not quite sure if I like it better.

Animated the new version. The arms sorta bothered me in the older animation, now they're lengthened by one pixel as they go up so the size is more consistent across the animation cycle. New crown and the eyes flash every two cycles.

The crown looks a lot better now, great job.

Out of curiosity, did you do anything but a simple alpha channel on the sprite? Or is the aa altered too for the transparency test?

King Boo himself is unaltered for the transparent version. The only thing I did was add the crown as a separate sprite on top. So yes, the antialiasing works as intended. There's also a slight white glow below the sprite but that's just an extra effect.
