Neko (PLAYER)

Source

I made that artwork back in april. Okay, Super Saiyan 3 may have been an inspiration for this, like Super Saiyan 1 and Super Sonic were for Golden Neko. I wanted to use that form in Super Bouncy Cat, but there was no use for it. I'll be happy if tFR makes this design useful.

And the fact it's the first image that shows up in Google Images proves I know how to come up with original names. Go me!
But Neko literally means "cat".
That's beside the point.

Felt this was needed. Work in progress.

As good as done. C+C is still welcome.

Added it to the sheet on the first post. As a bonus, I added a new Lose portrait, because I was in the groove.

Neko's Back Punch for his B-moveset. I wanted to give him an attack that fits his B-stance and the name I gave him: Feral Neko.
Feral Slash consists of a 4 frame wind-up and 3 frame execution. During the first 3 frames of wind-up, Neko is invulnerable and moves slightly backwards. The fourth frame can be delayed by holding the Punch button, so the timing can be controlled. The execution is quick and powerful, but because it launches Neko upwards and forwards, it may cause him to be open to a counter-attack, though this also means it can be followed by his Bouncy Dive and Flat Dive attacks. Because Feral Slash launches the opponent, comboing into these attacks is impossible, unless there's a wall maybe.
The sheet in the first post has been updated.

Killing time, I traced an old Neko drawing parodying that Kakyoin cherry licking scene, because why not. It's JoJo related.

EDIT: Changed some alternative colors so the changes still fit most objects that share certain colors. They're now Default 1 and 2, and Feral 1 and 2 (for moveset B.) They're on the sheet in the first post.

A new running animation for Neko, based on that from Super Bouncy Cat. Could either replace the old walking animation or be used as a seperate animation for running/dashing.

Also tweaked this a bit.

Sheet is updated it first post. Got rid of some of the white highlights.

EDIT:
Added palettes next to the alt colors on the sheet to include colors that aren't on the sprites, so stuff like the character select portrait don't look like shit when swapping colors.
You know, something I should've done 3 years ago.
Quick Edit: I swapped one color in certain sprites that was different from the palettes. Updated the sheet in first post.

Oh, are the portraits changing colors? I assumed there would just be one portrait and the alt colors would just show up on the sprite on the char select screen

Right now they do change color. If for whatever reason we don't want them to, it's an easy fix. Otherwise it is a way to show what color you selected.

Is it possible for certain frames to not be affected by palette changes, like the Frozen Status, Princess, Goldstar Neko and projectiles?

Yes indeed, in fact I've added that to many things since the last update.

If there are any frames you want with an isolated palette, let me know. Just keep in mind isolating the palette prevents me from eventually applying the true TFR palette, as it prevents palette editing.

Not my fault, the program is very weird.

I've made a list on the first post of the frames I want unaffected by palette changes. If it's better to leave the palette swapping as is, that's fine. The only frames that really look weird after these palette changes are the Frozen and Strawberry sprites and to a lesser extent, Princess from the Win animation and Goldstar Neko. Golden Neko is fine, because he doesn't share any color with the default palette, not counting black and white.
I also added a Golden Neko palette, because why not? You'll have to get Gold on every Cup on 200cc first though. Could be for the default Neko, Feral Neko, both or neither. It's there.

Did some work on the Nyaken attack. I tried to make an animated one, but felt this frame by itself looks better. I also polished Neko's animation for the attack, but not added it to this post, because I'm lazy. It's on the sheet in the first post though.

It is animate.
