i think deleting posts will only make anyone whose posts were deleted madder, unless they were doing anything on purpose or know theyre wrong.

well, if we deleted it, it might be because something was wrong, right?

i don't think erasing messages, even hostile ones, will remedy the situation, especially if it's after everybody's read them. even proactively i think i have the right to know who and what is said, offensive or not. and i also think it is our right to respond or not to these type of messages, too.
i don't think an "ignorance is bliss" attitude is going to fix things, especially as i think we are presently entrenched in something deeper than a PJAMA/lu9 crisis and squabbling, and it's not going to be fixed by deleting members' posts.
yes, as a moderator and part of the forum staff you are supposed to contain/ suppress/ ban negative vibes/ whatever creates them on the forum, but my question is: is it through deleting, locking and banning that we enter a period of appeasement or happiness? no, sadly i don't think so.
i've said this before but the solution is more on the members themselves. it's not so much the posts that bother me, it's who's posting's attitude. and deleting posts/locking does not seem to me like the rightful sanction.
discuss.

The only reason why I think it is a good idea to delete the hostile posts because things never change in this shithole. I'm know we've told you many of times before to grow up and be nice to eachother and that only last for about a month at the very most before is dissolves back into everyone having a 10 foot poll up their ass again.

Now Chris, you say "Oh if you don't like people being so hostile then follow your own advice and don't pay attention to it" but you forget, I'm a moderator. Caring about what people post happens to be apart of my job, just like keeping the peace around here is also apart of my job. I am all for free speech and people saying what they have to say but if people really feel the need to bitch at eachother for being ironic all the time or being unfunny or some idiotic bullshit like that and cause a huge shitstorm then they can take it to the PM system or an IM service of some sort and keep it off the fourms because thats literally the last thing we need breaking out all over the place.

I'm pretty sure that being respectful is one of the rules, even though the rules generally don't have to be followed in here (Except rule 4) you are expected to some degree to use your common sense in here. In fact using your common sense shouldn't even have to be said. It isn't like I'm asking everyone to be friends with eachother. Just be civil enough to post in the same forum or maybe even the same topic and not let it dissolve into a huge shitstorm.

If someone gets pissed over having their post deleted then they need to take a break from here because we do not delete posts very often. If someone's post gets deleted then that means they obviously posted something wrong as common sense would tell you.

Except deleting posts won't exactly prevent it though.

shit's going to happen all the time, you can't expect it to go right to being perfect by simply deleting it. it may help, but that doesn't really make it go away. I mean we could have someone get butthurt over their big bad post getting deleted.

Well I can't exactly warn or ban people and I don't expect it to go right to perfect I just hope that maybe if they realize that their post was deleted that maybe they shouldn't post things like that in the first place. Maybe I should also PM them why their post was deleted and tell them not to post things like that. Either way the shitstorms have to stop.

Also as I said in my previous post, if someone gets butthurt over their post being deleted then they should take a break from the forums because we hardly delete any posts at all in the first place and if theirs got deleted then it kinda proves that they did something wrong.

Sorry to bring out the serious mod pants but until you can all take the 10 foot poll out of your asses I'm going to be deleting hostile posts. Just don't be hostile with one another if you don't want me to do this so badly.

shouldn't there at least be a rule regarding this though?

i'm not against this idea, at least explaining them why the hell their posts were deleted is a good idea. again it might noit prevent it but looking at it now, it might help.

still, it should be at least set in stone before a huge shit fit goes about without notice because of this. it happened before and it will happen again.

**... i don't see how moving it on to the pm system or getting pissed on an im service will improve relations within this forum, it's only an externalisation of the issues between members of this forum through other means of communication. therefore, i do not consider this a solution. or it is an illusory one which will end up on the forum once again.
oh, and banning the disruptive members is a temporary solution, because they can still use their alternate services to be disruptive until blocked, but it still doesn't solve the problems of the members involved, because it's their fault and responsability. as a moderator you are here to clean up their mess.
*mh, i didn't quite say that.

i don't think deleting the posts is the appropriate way to deal with the subject. you don't like it, move on. go ahead and warn the user instead.

what i'm getting at, is that maybe this "shithole" won't change because the people who moderate haven't, as well as normal users?

I can't warn people in here because literally just about everything goes here. The most I can really do is delete posts.

Taking it over to private matters might not be the best suggestion but I literally cannot control what people say to eachother out of the public eye unless the pm (on here only) was reported but sometimes handling the issue between yourselves and only yourselves can sometimes help the issue too.

I never said anything about banning people but then again what you said is still useful. I personally don't think people should be banned from the forums for what they did in spamhaul without a very good reason. I can see why Pjama was banned. All the threads that he had in here were all moved from other sections so in a way he was spamming a lot and people got sick of moving his threads over to spamhaul so he was banned for a while.

And if the people who moderate change in how they are handling things in the shithole then things would change. Thats what I am trying to do. I am not trying to suppress free speech or anything like that. Just change this into a someone civil place.

Also yes I know it is my job to clean up the mess of others it is just if I start warning people in spamhaul for being hostile to eachother thats more or less being a nazi mod. Thats why I am deleting posts and PMing people why their posts got deleted, it is still cleaning up the mess but in one step under just straight up warning people.

warning is ambiguous: it could be the warn system that all members have, or simply notifying a user. i initially thought the warn meter would be the right way, but if you think it's an issue, you could simply contact the members via pm. which does converge with your present idea.

Maybe this sounds really gay but when i'm on the internet, TSR always feels like home, and if we all just got along like we used to then it would be great again.

i'm not saying you have to make an effort to be friends with 14 year old newcomers who quote 4chan memes. But at least treat them with enough respect so that they feel they are welcome. And when they see that our sense of humor is different to ours, if we accept them, they will change and instead talk about things we all find mutually interesting.
If someone is blatantly trolling, even when your treating them respect, do everyone a favor, and ignore them and let a mod take care of it.

this post was really gay-sounding (ironically the part you thought sounded gay, didn't but the rest of the post did?) but i think of
uhm
so, if they're quoting 4chon and feel like the internet revolves around them (pjama?) we're supposed to treat them with respect? and if they're not funny, we just accept it and hope they'll stop trying to be funny and try to post about things that we'll hopefully jive with?

um

The last sentence in your post rings true, but given the structure of the community (or just my attitude), the paragraph above it seems kinda
butterflies and cotton candy

I think if we just adhere to the golden rule from first grade ("do unto others as you would have others do unto you") in forum etiquette I think we'll do just dandy. tl;dr if they're initially kind, we be kind back. if they start getting all defensive..um, nothing wrong with defending out beliefs
and, i think if someone's not funny we're good just upfront admitting it to the person. maybe not so harshly as we usually do, but if someone's not funny, they simply just suck at it. habeeb it

that's why I put 'might' in italics, it might. Not really sure if it's really going to work.

I do like your though about it, Kosh, and if we can make the people at least respectful to each other, things would run smoother here.

yeah! 'coz i mean on both ends, even here we do have people who don't show respect to one another and it leads to conflicts. i'm kinda included but i don't post much outside of spamhaul so i'm exempt!!!!!!! i guess

p.s. lunyka. gors. deleting posts is really gay. that's gonna cause more problems
this is spamhaul. make a notice that you're liable to have your posts edited at any time according to the moderation team's discretion

then just make harsh posts
into silly posts!

Editing post might be better but people can get even more butthurt over it. It is kinda something to toss up in the air really. I'll try the editing thing and if that doesn't work I'll try the deleting thing ok?
