Few updates, and an animation to show the jump set up. TheShyGuy should post em soon.

You know, since Adobe Fireworks allows me to create animated GIFs, I don't see why I can't create a couple for you. It would certainly give Shyguy a break if you agree to that proposition.

it's ok to suck, sucking is not bad, just try and aim to always do your best!

Yeah, it's up to you. But I just send ShyGuy the GIFS in an email, because that's the only way of sharing animations. I can't say it's much work, but ShyGuy can do what he wants I guess.

Yeah, it's no problem. I just get on yahoo, download the GIFs, then upload them to imgur. I'm not doing much work lol

is this supposed to be in the same style as KSSU, or did you just make it in a new style completely?

its hard to determine who's who, since they have the same body structure. exaggerate the features a bit. for example, jon is a chubby dude, so give him a bigger face and body. he also has a lot of hair on his face, so keep that in mind.

Made Jared taller with crossed arms, and Jon chubbier with a little more hair.
And the Mario is a new style. If I though that was KSSU style, then I shouldn't be allowed to use the term "sprite style" again.

Worked on a jump. Crit for anything (other than the third row which is a WIP walk) please!

The jump looks nice, but the last two frames look only like an edit to the face. Maybe do something more to it? idk

Pixel art is still art. Don't forget that you should be practicing and learning about the basics of art in general. I'll give a better critic tomorrow- I'm tired right now.

Ok, so pixel art is still art, obviously. You can still practice using pixels, but understand that you should still practice the basics (i.e. anatomy)

Moving on to the animations, the jump looks good. I don't see any glaring issues. It seems like it would look fine in-game.

The running animation needs lots of work.
-He looks like a propeller and I think you should completely redo the animation.
-The timing is linear, it shouldn't be. Through the step should be fast. When the motion changes direction, there should be an accel/deceleration. You don't necessarily need frames to show easing, just make sure that the extreme poses are held longer than the inbetweens.
-Also, you have too many frames, especially given the small amount of movement. Remember, suggestion is a strong tool. You could've done the same (incorrect) movement with three frames.

Let's check out this reference real quick. You start with poses 1 and 7, the contact points. Then you make pose 4, the passing pose. With these 3 alone, a 4 frame run (1 more frame for the mirrored passing position) may be possible given the sprite size, animation speed, and potential movement. You don't need your 8 frames, look:

Although the 16 frame animation looks great, the 4 frame still looks decent, ignoring the hair.

I'll write more crits later.

Jon's head is pretty flat, and he doesn't quite look like he's facing forward

He's still pretty thin, too. Try bringing his shoulder (on our left) upward and to the left, and see where that gets you.
