Kirby's Dream Land Remake Project [open to anyone]
You're getting better, mate. Just keep following are advice and don't give up your enthusiasm.

By the way, could I also suggest you eventually think about making your own sprite topic? I'm not saying you should stop contributing sprites to this one, but since you have an interesting sprite style going there, it wouldn't hurt to further develop it and try to sprite other characters. What do you say?

it's ok to suck, sucking is not bad, just try and aim to always do your best!

One last thing I forgot to mention: when making small enemies sprites, such as Flapper, make sure they can fit in a 32x32 square.

Also, notice how the artwork has Flapper has light gray wings. So try to pay attention to those details Wink

It's starting to look a lot better. I'm also seconding SchAlternate's point: you have to make sure you are able to fit it in that 32x32 box. What I would suggest would be to make the body bigger and the wingspan just a little shorter. Flappy's official artwork doesn't show it with a terribly wide wingspan (despite what its in-game sprite may suggest), so shortening its wings pretty drastically shouldn't hurt.

Also, the colors. Flappy is a dark, black color, but you don't want to make it too dark because by doing so it will be near-impossible to give it effective shading. My suggestion would be to, for the main body color, make it the tone of gray just below that one; for the shading, try using the darkest blue-violet.

It may seem odd, using a different color to use as shading for another color. However, if you know how to implement it, it works well. The thing is that some colors (such as purples and blues) tend to have a darker hue, therefore they can be successfully used as a darker shade. (And additionally, a lot of the time when it comes to shadows in real-life, the "hue" "shifts" closer to a blueish gray. That's just if you want to get technical, though)

OK. I tried to use the palette that fit the best. Is this one considered complete?
Also see the poem on the previous page!

Here is Benny. I used the correct palette, and made him fit in the 32x32 box. Better?

Eh, did you intend to post the edited version of Flapper? It isn't showing up at all?

BTW, nice Squishy!

Hold on, hold on.
Please pay attention to what the others are advising you to do. Forget about doing animations and more sprites, focus on getting the first one right.

Currently, your Flapper is not up to the standards suggested by the project, and you have been given input on how to improve it. So slow down and read carefully what has been stated about your sprite so far.
(facepalm) Sorry! I tend to rush stuff sometimes... Here is edited Flapper.
I took your suggestions for color, and made it fit in a 32x32.

Hi! I really love this project! So I tried to make a contribution:

This is the enemy mumbies, I tried to add the frame when you try to suck him up too.
I'm really new at pixel art, I've been reading a lot of tutorials. So any critique or edits are welcome Smile
This is pretty cool!
