I guess he could grab a set of Game Boy sprites and try giving a real color palette to them as practice. For example, grabbing Mario sprites from Super Mario Land 2 and recoloring them with Mario's traditional colorscheme instead of the Game Boy's grayscale.
That's the one and only good use for recoloring I could think about.

Now you officially suck! so yeah, maybe do edits to learn, not make it part of your future spritesheet! LOL!

recoloring isn't always a bad thing , they just shouldn't be submitted, its good practice. and im sorry, but that is the worst advice i've ever heard...
